I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

Also, if you do it one year, you are pretty much committing to do it every year from then on.

Fuck that.

This!

RewildingAmbridge · 29/11/2022 11:27

Porridge as usual.... DS won't get his advent calendar until the evening anyway, his has small books in it, so he'll open it before bed each night and have the book as a bedtime story

oldwhyno · 29/11/2022 11:27

🙄 Is this an instagram thing?

PeeJayDay · 29/11/2022 11:28

"Is this an instagram thing?"

No. It's a Christmas thing

Phos · 29/11/2022 11:29

What the hell is a North Pole breakfast? Genuinely never heard of it. My daughter takes half an hour to eat a bowl of cereal so if its any more elaborate than that its a hard no on a school morning.

7Worfs · 29/11/2022 11:29

In this house Mon-Sat breakfast is porridge, Sunday is pancakes. No exceptions.

Kanaloa · 29/11/2022 11:30

Well just be having normal breakfast before I get the kids to school then I rush to work then uni and home! They’ll have a bit of chocolate out of their advent calendars as well.

I think there can be a risk sometimes of making so many ‘special days’ that no day is actually special anymore. The first of December isn’t a special day, it’s just another day. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are special, and we do special things on those days, so they stand out.

I once heard a mum at school talking about what they were doing for her child’s ‘half-birthday.’ My kids were looking at me like ‘mum why don’t we have a half-birthday?!’

God help us

YetAnotherSpartacus · 29/11/2022 11:31

Ice cold fish?

Hopefully not polar bear.

TomTraubertsBlues · 29/11/2022 11:31

This will probably sound very curmudgeonly 😂 When I was a kid, my siblings and I shared an advent calendar with pictures in. We were allowed to open one small present when we got back from Midnight Mass on Xmas eve, then had the normal Xmas day with food/presents etc.

No elf, no Xmas eve box, no individual chocolate advent calendars, no north pole breakfast... but I never felt deprived or that Xmas wasn't special.

This may just be me, but I feel as though the more things you do, the more bits you add, the less special each of those individual bits feels. Less is more.

Ontopofthesunset · 29/11/2022 11:31

Honestly I've never heard of it. It must be a new thing, like the elf and the Christmas Eve boxes. When mine were little (early 20s now) the advent calendar was the thing you got on 1st December.

Hidingawaytoday · 29/11/2022 11:32

DD is going to have 'sleighs on snow, with a mini Santa topping'. Aka, shredded wheat with milk and strawberries same as every day

AuntieMarys · 29/11/2022 11:32

More crap to make busy parents feel they are failures. How much more Xmas hype do kids need!

7upBaby · 29/11/2022 11:32

Sounds crazy, don't give yourself more to do!

TomTraubertsBlues · 29/11/2022 11:32

Yes!

Eat toast leaning over the skink whilst shouting for DC to leave the house?

You lean over the sink? I'm impressed, crumbs everywhere here!

MarcelEtCeleste · 29/11/2022 11:33

Paq · 29/11/2022 11:23

How do you get the skink to stay still? Mine just scuttles off...

Cackling! 😂

PeeJayDay · 29/11/2022 11:34

"The first of December isn’t a special day, it’s just another day"

In this house the 1st December is the day we can start thinking about being a bit more festive. No Christmas songs or films or stories or decorations are allowed outside of December. Then once the advent calendars come out it's all fair game. So it's a special day for my lot.

It's really not spoiling Christmas Day to have a fun breakfast together almost a month before the event Confused

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 29/11/2022 11:34

Same as always!
If the kids are lucky, I'll remember to put out an advent calender and their pocket money (paid in cash on the first of each month).
Otherwise I'll run out of the house at 7.20, and text them when I get to work with bits I've forgotten.

FrownedUpon · 29/11/2022 11:35

Toast, like every other day!

Absolutely this.

although having spent about 15 years telling my daughter that ‘birthday Eve’ is not a thing I am tempted to do it this year as she is 21 a few days before Christmas and I want to spread it out as her birthday always gets swallowed up by Christmas a little bit

Love this :) Sounds like our house.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 29/11/2022 11:35

What? Probably a coffee and a cigarette, same as any other normal day Hmm

Twizbe · 29/11/2022 11:36

The usual weetabix and toast .... special breakfasts are for Xmas day itself.

Newwardrobe · 29/11/2022 11:36

North Pole breakfast?? <braces self for all the insta pics >
