What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

Your right, as I was writing it it definitely seems bigger than I thought it was.

PJs aren’t usually a Dec 1st thing here and this will be the first time my dds have had slippers in years as they never wear them, but, they are novelty ones my DDs will love as they go with one of our themes this year. I’d normally give out the PJs when I buy them but decided to wait till December this year. It’s also the first time in 4 years that I’ve found matching in all the right sizes.

Usually it would just be the elf’s & advent calendars on December 1st.

One of your themes of the year? What does that mean? Surely life is just life, it’s not ‘themed’ like an instagram shoot or a birthday party.

And this is exactly what people mean about how it encourages pointless consumerism - your children ’never’ wear slippers, haven’t had or wanted them for years, but now you suddenly need to buy special novelty ones that match your ‘theme,’ as a celebration of a random day (December 1st) which means nothing to nobody.

gettingolderandgrumpier · 01/12/2022 08:09

I remember years ago when people thought you were an utter loon for even thinking about putting the Christmas tree up before December. Now if you haven’t got full decs up , elf in the shelf and North Pole breakfast by 1st December you are an utter grinch .
honestly you want to do it but in my opinion nah !

HellYeahAurora · 01/12/2022 08:12

I had pop tarts, kids grabbed something as they walked out the door. Wasn’t aware it was a special breakfast day.. although to be fair, the price of pop tarts these days, it kind of was…

7upandup · 01/12/2022 08:17

@PeeJayDay who said I do time consuming and costly stuff?
Because Xmas eve and Xmas day are days for celebrating. A weekday morning in December doesn't need a big spread laid out for breakfast, it's just another thing for mums to worry about when life is hard enough.
We've went from North Pole breakfast to just some ready made pancakes now. Make your mind up!

Do you have to be so negative and nasty!

Theme as in Christmas theme, it has nothing to do with pointless consumerism and everything to do we us enjoying Christmas. Not that it’s any of your business, but I enjoy changing things up each year especially with my children. I keep and recycle decorations and have no problem buying second hand. I will be using last year’s decorations with a new twist this year for my children. We will be creating new decorations made from scratch as well as their new pjs matching this, or am I not allowed to buy my children new pjs?

As for slippers they hate wearing them, always have so I stopped buying them. However, you may have noticed there is a bit of a financial crisis going on so I’m trying to encourage them to wear them as we won’t be having the heating on as much. They haven’t taken their “novelty” slippers off since they got up at 6am so so far I’m onto a winner.

This is supposed to be a fun Christmas board and the 1st December means a lot to a lot of people, especially on this board, so how about if you can’t say anything nice you crawl into some miserable space and keep your negative comments to yourself.

Im only back for the pics! 👀

ZeroFuchsGiven · 01/12/2022 08:44

And no fibbing please, We know you took them so please share

Coolyule · 01/12/2022 08:48

I did not know a North Pole breakfast was a thing until today. Hope my poor children are okay after only having toast and an advent chocolate…

Everydayaschoolday · 01/12/2022 09:00

Just had ours this morning - we’ve been doing it about 9 years now. Kids love it; I keep it simple. Poundland plastic Christmas tablecloth. Reusable advent calendars come out each year and I fill with mini Lidl choc in each door and put on table. Get some Belgian waffles, oat cookies and Reindeer crumpets from Asda and put on table. Get the Santa plates and glasses out that I’ve had for decades. Stick some candy canes around. Let kids take extras into school to share at break with friends. It’s basically a once-a-year sugar-rush breakfast! It’s not a chore for me. 10 min to set table the night before - that’s all. However, Elf on the Shelf: not doing that as that really is a daily chore in my mind. Each to their own.

Everydayaschoolday · 01/12/2022 09:07

Oh I’m not on any social media so it’s not a photo op or bragging thing. Sorry I didn’t see this thread sooner, op, but hopefully my ideas will be good inspiration for next year. Hope you had a fun morning whatever you did. ⛄️

PeeJayDay · 01/12/2022 09:08

"who said I do time consuming and costly stuff?"

You did. Baking gingerbread men (much cheaper and quicker to buy), panto (wowzers, goes on for 3 hours and is not cheap), going "all out" on Christmas Eve sounds pretty big.

And I've never said anything about not buying my pancakes from the shop. Wtf are you on about?

We've had a nice breakfast, kids enjoyed it. Took 20 minutes in all but nice to put christmas radio on and start feeling a bit more festive. I did take a photo of my kids @ZeroFuchsGiven and I've sent it to their grandma, but I won't be sharing it with you absolute weirdo asking for a pic of kids eating breakfast 🤪

Now off to cry cause I've totally ruined Christmas Day for everyone

7upandup · 01/12/2022 09:11

@PeeJayDay no shop bought gingerbread men are not more expensive when I have all the ingredients in the cupboard bar a tube of smarties for the buttons.
And I do all that stuff on Xmas eve which yes I said do!

PeeJayDay · 01/12/2022 09:19

So what you getting your knickers in a twist for because I choose to have a nice breakfast today instead of Christmas Eve. I bought gingerbread men from the shop last week. They absolutely were cheaper than baking them with the current energy prices.

And if your panto is cheap and not time consuming please do share the details 🤷🏽‍♀️🤣. Or stop talking nonsense. What a fucking weird thing to get a bee in your bonnet about.

7upandup · 01/12/2022 09:23

@PeeJayDay I've already said why I don't agree with Xmas breakfasts, I don't need to repeat myself.
You seem to be getting your knickers in a twist with anyone who doesn't agree with you. Stop looking for validation and just get on with it then 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

lollipoprainbow · 01/12/2022 09:26

@PeeJayDay calm down dear

Sindonym · 01/12/2022 09:33

The what? Thank god my kids were small in the days when all that was expected was an advent calendar.

jamoncrumpets · 01/12/2022 09:50

My kids had their regular breakfasts. They were delighted with their advent calendars though.

FourTeaFallOut · 01/12/2022 09:53

Hope all us North Pole Breakfast deniers held up our end of the bargain and screamed at our kids and threw biscuits at their heads this morning so the others could feel confident about their twee parenting choices?

CorporateBull · 01/12/2022 09:56

I dealt with one massive disappointment about a stationery calendar when a sibling had a toy one, handed out usual breakfasts, and we went to school. I didn’t throw a weetabix at anyone. My school refuser was more cheerful than normal because of the advent calendar though.

7upandup · 01/12/2022 10:02

@FourTeaFallOut whilst eating our toast over the sink

lollipoprainbow · 01/12/2022 10:12

@FourTeaFallOut and feeding them gruel 🙄

cowbags73 · 01/12/2022 10:18

North Pole breakfast? What is this witchery?

I had Scrambled Eggs and A Cup of Tea.

Just a normal breakfast.

95% of the responses I've read so far are predictably naff all (which I do have sympathy with on a school day!)

This is the Christmas thread though so not sure the bah humbug is necessary!

It’s naff all because it isn’t a tradition. It’s most likely just a made up thing by a company trying to sell you something

My children aren’t that old (born this side of the millennia). There wasn’t Elf on a Shelf, there wasn’t Christmas Eve boxes and advent calendars were bought when the price dropped. That way they could have 2 or 3 chocolates each morning instead of just 1

Growing up my families Christmas tradition was at about 4pm on Christmas Eve going into the shops trying to find a Christmas tree and food for Christmas lunch that was going cheap or being thrown out.
One particularly bad year we had a branch from a tree we found on the pavement and raw tripe.

Maybe we could make that a Christmas tradition. Might save people a lot of money
