What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

@PeeJayDay who said I do time consuming and costly stuff?
Because Xmas eve and Xmas day are days for celebrating. A weekday morning in December doesn't need a big spread laid out for breakfast, it's just another thing for mums to worry about when life is hard enough.
We've went from North Pole breakfast to just some ready made pancakes now. Make your mind up!

When was Christmas Eve a day of celebration. It’s a work day.

billybingo · 01/12/2022 11:30

Never heard of this! I scrambled to get the advent cake out the cupboard and my dc missed half their breakfast waiting on tiptoes in extended disappointment that I'd forgotten it was already the 1st. Made it a breakfast to remember if that counts.

Kennykenkencat · 01/12/2022 11:38

For those who think nearly everyone will have had a North Pole breakfast or think people are on a race to the bottom because they don’t have Christmas Traditions and don’t make their pancakes into Christmas baubles and cookie cutter Christmas trees

NEWSFLASH

Most people don’t celebrate Christmas and that includes a good percentage of people in the UK

ZeroFuchsGiven · 01/12/2022 11:38

advent cake?

PeeJayDay · 01/12/2022 12:28

Hit a nerve? @ZeroFuchsGiven 🤣

I see you've still got your playground cheerleader clapping away like a moron too 🙈

Anyway, enjoy the rest of your day everyone. This thread is old news now since it's already lunchtime. Maybe we can do it all again next year!

Do you have to be so negative and nasty!

Theme as in Christmas theme, it has nothing to do with pointless consumerism and everything to do we us enjoying Christmas. Not that it’s any of your business, but I enjoy changing things up each year especially with my children. I keep and recycle decorations and have no problem buying second hand. I will be using last year’s decorations with a new twist this year for my children. We will be creating new decorations made from scratch as well as their new pjs matching this, or am I not allowed to buy my children new pjs?

As for slippers they hate wearing them, always have so I stopped buying them. However, you may have noticed there is a bit of a financial crisis going on so I’m trying to encourage them to wear them as we won’t be having the heating on as much. They haven’t taken their “novelty” slippers off since they got up at 6am so so far I’m onto a winner.

This is supposed to be a fun Christmas board and the 1st December means a lot to a lot of people, especially on this board, so how about if you can’t say anything nice you crawl into some miserable space and keep your negative comments to yourself.

Nasty? I was just asking what the ‘theme’ is since you said ‘our theme.’ But good to know the 1st December ‘means a lot to a lot of people.’ I will be sure to wish everyone I see a happy December first.

that's rich given the way you wrote about the school mum 😂

CousinKrispy · 01/12/2022 13:57

Good lord, I have never heard of this and I adore Christmas and have been working on making ridiculous little felt toys to fill DD's homemade advent calendar for the past few weeks, so I'm hardly anti-special-Christmas-for-the-kids 😆Wonder where this idea came from. I am going to feel free to ignore it 😊

I reckon it's come
From Merica

Which means it's gonna be big here in a year or two

Must be a USA thing as I never heard of it in Canada. 😏

VivienneDelacroix · 01/12/2022 16:42

I am very sick of this competitive parenting shit.
I work full-time, have three children, two with SEN, one who is in hospital and it's enough to get everyone fed, dressed, and out the door in the morning, without my children coming home and telling me how "everyone else" (not everyone) had a special breakfast. Of course it's a social media thing - these things definitely didn't happen in the 80s and 90s.

You don't need to buy a single thing to make breakfast with. I do buy the shaped crumpets for ease, but before my son started school we had more time and I made shaped pancakes using Christmas cookie cutters which were my mother's and I believe my grandmother's, they are definitely very old. We eat fruit every morning, so what difference does it make to make it look like a candy cane? So the big expense is a packet of Christmas napkins. I buy several of these. We use them for every meal in December and it is an expense I am happy to pay.

@Janieread why don't you just buy some cloth ones you can re use year after year? Seems a massive waste using several packets of napkins and just binning them

TomTraubertsBlues · 01/12/2022 17:38

Yes, if you use them for every meal it's worth having cloth ones.

catsonahottinroof · 01/12/2022 18:48

I first heard about these 'north pole breakfasts' on MN, a good few years ago, to coincide with the 'Elf on the Shelf'. My own children were way to old to even contemplate starting anything like this and I'm almost certain I'd have never got them an Elf. I don't think I'd have done a North Pole breakfast but I might have, it's quite a cute idea in a way.
I'd not go all out with it though, wouldn't have time for one thing, but I think it's meant to be quite minty to evoke the candy canes so maybe mint choc flavour ice cream/hot chocolate, maybe hot cinnamon buns, savoury cooked food, etc.

Because there is no way to get them clean quickly enough. I do have cloth ones too, but would need a number of sets or to put the washing machine on for just napkins.

HauntedPencil · 01/12/2022 19:44

I hope you all enjoyed a smashing breakfast this morning

Fair enough just seems so wasteful.

HauntedPencil · 01/12/2022 20:12

Paper is biodegradable at least, by the time you factor in washing cloths, it's it really that wasteful to use a few at Christmas? They can also be used in your compost if you are careful. It isn't something I'd choose to pick at someone online for anyway have to say.

AdoraBell · 01/12/2022 20:37

Late to the party but I’ve never done anything special for the 1st. Not judging anyone who does. Hope all your breakfasts went well.

Guesswhosbackagain · 01/12/2022 22:26

Weetabix, the same as i do every day

lollipoprainbow · 01/12/2022 22:31

There's already another thread here started today of someone's ds who came home upset because he hadn't had a North Pole breakfast and classmates did. It's all so unnecessary.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 01/12/2022 22:36

Pemmican and reindeer fat for my lot.

HauntedPencil · 01/12/2022 23:24

People can't not do things because other people don't. FGS where would it end. It's breakfast not a luxury cruise. I can't afford and don't have the time for a multitude of things people do on this bloody site

Well then the parent of that child needs to explain to them that all families do different things, some have elves, some have fancy advent calendars, some don’t celebrate Christmas at all. Sometimes my kids moan that others have done x, y or z and we haven’t, it’s life.

pinkksugarmouse · 01/12/2022 23:50

Ok this definitely wasn’t a thing when DD(20yrs) was younger. Getting some cereal or toast into your kids whilst trying to juggle feeding the cat, answering the door to take a parcel and being threatened with calls to child line for sending them back upstairs to brush their teeth ‘properly this time’ is quite enough on a school day. 🤣

How the heck I would have fit in pancakes as well I don’t know. You people must have three pairs of hands and the patience of a saint. I am really thankful it wasn’t a thing.
