What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

We do our North Pole breakfast on Xmas eve. The elf has left and in place leaves a breakfast and a Xmas eve box. It's some fun, I usually do a pancake station. Pancakes, fruits, different spreads and some pastries. Kids love it and doesn't take too much effort.

Ibizamumof4 · 30/11/2022 11:32

Another Instagram/TikTok thing if you have time go for it if not don’t bother literally no one does it around here !

kingtamponthefurred · 30/11/2022 11:45

I've just invented a new tradition: South Pole breakfast (whale blubber and roasted seal with mango and pineapple, cherry brandy spritzers). It will take place on 17 December because nothing else is happening around that time, and you all have to join in because if you don't I will go WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH.

Eurgh! Cherry brandy?
I wouldn't like that at all. Can I have Crème de Menthe with mine?

(I'll be there by the way, and I'll bring the Tunnock's Snowballs for dipping - early start like last year I assume? )

I make a pavlova so it sets a 'snowy scene', then I place all the gingerbread reindeer and a sleigh full of pancakes on it.

😂😂

FourTeaFallOut · 30/11/2022 12:43

Chill the fuck out love, calling a Christmas tree shaped pancake "twee" might just be peak AIBU bitchiness 🎄

Fashioning a piece of toast into a Christmas Tree is the very definition of twee, pet.

Dotingmumandgranny · 30/11/2022 10:03

Fruit, then probably bacon and eggs as usual. I didn't know 1st December breakfasts were a thing. Where did that come from?

Bacon and eggs AS USUAL hang on can I move in?

HauntedPencil · 30/11/2022 13:07

Of course it's twee I love a bit of twee at Christmas 🎅

🙄 Is this an instagram thing?

Pretty sure it's (yet another) American thing that is worming it's way over here 🙄🙄 I'd love to know how many kids then complain about feeling sick cos they've eaten a bunch of crap right before they have to do the school run 😂. Everyone I know who does the North Pole brekkie does it mainly to post annoying photos all over social media. Thank fuck my kids are teenagers & far too old for all this consumer nonsense 😂

hay5689 · 30/11/2022 13:13

So glad I had my children when social media wasn't such a big thing and the only thing that happened on December 1st was an advent calendar.

I really feel for parents with young children now, elf on the shelf, Christmas Eve boxes, North Pole breakfast, matching Christmas PJs, where does it end? So much pressure on people to spend money at a time of year when money is tight for most.

Ch3wylemon · 30/11/2022 13:27

We had reindeer meatballs in Lapland. Would that be acceptable so long as we a) dress up and b) photograph the the whole thing for social media?

FourChimneys · 30/11/2022 13:27

I have loved this thread. It's made me even more sure that giving up Christmas was the right thing to do 😀

That sounds dodgy... 😱

CoolShoeshine · 30/11/2022 14:00

I don’t I get the hate of people want to give their children a little treat to mark the start of Christmas. They had reindeer face shape crumpets in Asda today, one of them wouldn’t take any longer to sort than toast or cereal. Not wasteful either.
My kids are too old now but I’d much rather do that than do the crappy elf for days on end.

ScrunchiesFromSanta · 30/11/2022 14:05

But 1.12. is not the start of Christmas?

HauntedPencil · 30/11/2022 14:10

It's quite predictable on here though, as soon as a few posters put the boot jn they are all out.

I don't think anyone does mind the thought of someone giving some reindeer crumpets, or any nice treat, to their kids.

What I hate is the idea that this social media bullshit idea dreamt up to make people spend money is a real thing.

There is no one more Christmassy than me - I do so many lovely things through advent. But 'North Pole Breakfasts' are tacky marketing bullshit.

VoyageInTheDark · 30/11/2022 14:17

Everyone saying its a social media thing but I've never seen or heard of it anywhere except on here! It always makes me feel that as a sahm I should have the time and energy to be doing these things but alas I do not 😅

Prinnny · 30/11/2022 14:49

I cut DD’s toast into different shapes (mainly love hearts) on the daily, I’m such a twee instabook desperado 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

Murasakispillowbook · 30/11/2022 14:55

PeeJayDay · 30/11/2022 09:26

I think people are assuming that the only people that do this are the ones they have seen on social media whereas, in actual fact, many have been doing this for years on the morning they bring out the advent calendar.

Nobody would know that I do it, how would they? My kids love it though, and that's good enough for me to spend 5 minutes making their breakfast look a bit different.

If it was a social media thing I'd have seen it. And I have NEVER heard of it til.this thread! It must be a quiet cult of pole breakers!

PeeJayDay · 30/11/2022 14:55

Hate the word twee 🤮

What about Chwistmas Twee? 🎄

PeeJayDay · 30/11/2022 14:58

I do love a Christmas twee 🎄🤣

swirlypinky · 30/11/2022 15:32

I reckon it's come
From Merica

Which means it's gonna be big here in a year or two

TheSoddingCat · 30/11/2022 17:10

It is for us @ScrunchiesFromSanta. Different families do different things. Imagine!
