What do you do for breakfast on 1st Dec

I know some people will go all out with the North Pole breakfast but wondering if there is a toned down version I can do on a Thursday before work?!

I may end up flinging their advent calendars at them in a rush to make it to school on time!

So glad I had my children when social media wasn't such a big thing and the only thing that happened on December 1st was an advent calendar.

I really feel for parents with young children now, elf on the shelf, Christmas Eve boxes, North Pole breakfast, matching Christmas PJs, where does it end? So much pressure on people to spend money at a time of year when money is tight for most.

Tbh if I was forced at gunpoint to do one of those things on that list, I'd pick the breakfast. The elf, PJ's and Christmas Eve boxes are complete bollocks.

BaconAndAvocado · 30/11/2022 19:07

I usually do nothing but I have just put a tiny chocolate bear into their lunchboxes for tomorrow.
Never done it before but I’ve been ill recently so haven’t got the decks up yet. Will be a nice surprise for them.

wast542 · 30/11/2022 19:13

Never done this. Elves will just arrive with the advent calendars

Toomanysquishmallows · 30/11/2022 19:31

i have honestly never heard of a North Pole breakfast , we just have the advent calendars for tomorrow.

hay5689 · 30/11/2022 19:32

@AttilaTheUOkHun yes I think you are right. Once it's done tomorrow it's over with 😂

asblindasabat · 30/11/2022 19:39

i just have cereal and a cup of tea like I do every other morning. What’s so special about December the 1st that I need to have a fancy breakfast? Is this a thing?

7upandup · 30/11/2022 19:42

God remember the days on first December we got to open our advent calendars that tasted like cardboard chocolate but it was the best thing ever and you didn't know what sort of Xmas shape it would be...maybe a Santa or a snowman?

There is no need to go all out with special Xmas breakfasts on a school day morning. I don't get it.
We will be baking gingerbread men at the weekend but I've got enough to do without setting up a Xmas table, making homemade waffles and hot chocolate sauce for breakfast.
Honestly is it any wonder some mums feel guilt and crap at this time of year for feeling like they don't do enough when actually they do more than.

7upandup · 30/11/2022 19:50

@Paq yeah! Trees up in November, North Pole breakfasts, baskets full of Xmas books, Xmas eve boxes...the list goes
On.
It totally takes the magic away for me. Everyone in a hurry to cram as much crap and pressure on to themselves as possible.

We do a bit Xmas baking at the weekend
Watch Xmas films and play Xmas music in December!
Will go see some lights somewhere
The usual advent calendars and decorating the tree in December!
Maybe a panto and we go all out on Xmas eve.
Why the need for all this I don't know. Life I busy enough without setting the table and making homemade pancakes...when you have kids to sort for school and work to get to.

Well just be having normal breakfast before I get the kids to school then I rush to work then uni and home! They’ll have a bit of chocolate out of their advent calendars as well.

I think there can be a risk sometimes of making so many ‘special days’ that no day is actually special anymore. The first of December isn’t a special day, it’s just another day. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are special, and we do special things on those days, so they stand out.

I once heard a mum at school talking about what they were doing for her child’s ‘half-birthday.’ My kids were looking at me like ‘mum why don’t we have a half-birthday?!’

I know! It makes me so sad that mums feel they have to cram in as much as possible and add so much pressure to themselves.

Xmas eve and Xmas and Boxing Day are special days.
The shine is taken off when everyday has to be a special day.

@7upandup 👏👏👏👏👏

Why do you think that the huge amount of time consuming and costly stuff you do is fine but breakfast isn't (the pancakes are shop bought and why wouldn't I set the table anyway?)

PeeJayDay · 30/11/2022 20:04

👏👏👏👏👏

Ah @lollipoprainbow still delighting in ridiculing others I see.

PS, you're clapping someone who does masses of Christmas activities and "goes all out" on Christmas Eve but feels it's ok to belittle others for making one breakfast with a festive twist 🙈🤣 embarrassing.

lollipoprainbow · 30/11/2022 20:05

@PeeJayDay do give it a rest with your bloody pancakes.

Lovemusic33 · 30/11/2022 20:07

I had never heard of the ‘North pole breakfast’ thing until last year. Luckily everyone in my house has ASD and we have to have the same breakfast every day.

dd happens to have a day off tomorrow so we are going to the cinema and to buy a Christmas tree, it just happens to land on the 1st of December. Usually the 1st is just a normal day.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 30/11/2022 20:10

Omg I love Christmas and the build up to it, but, North Pole breakfast, what the hell. I think there is a mum at my DCs school who dose this. Every little thing is documented and plastered all over Facebook. I seem to remember last year lots of Dec 1st gifts and massive breakfast spread. My DCs will get their Advent calendars delivered by the elf’s, new Christmas PJs & slippers and breakfast will be their usual Aldi chocolate crepe or bowl of cereal.

PeeJayDay · 30/11/2022 20:13

Nope. That's what the thread is about. You're just here to sneer and jeer at people. Sad life innit over a spot of breakfast?

Erm that's hardly low key though is it? I mean go for it, but erm

MarcelEtCeleste · 30/11/2022 22:07

I see the debate is still going on over here!

Have fun tomorrow OP and anyone else having a special breakfast.

Your right, as I was writing it it definitely seems bigger than I thought it was.

PJs aren’t usually a Dec 1st thing here and this will be the first time my dds have had slippers in years as they never wear them, but, they are novelty ones my DDs will love as they go with one of our themes this year. I’d normally give out the PJs when I buy them but decided to wait till December this year. It’s also the first time in 4 years that I’ve found matching in all the right sizes.

Usually it would just be the elf’s & advent calendars on December 1st.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 30/11/2022 22:44

I offered up ‘favourite breakfast of their choice’ for tomorrow, anything they wanted- waffles/pancakes/bacon rolls etc etc

DC1: can’t pick, want it all, surprise me please
DC2: weetabix

so it’s pancakes (pre made) & weetabix here now 😂

ordinarilyordinary · 30/11/2022 22:49

Ffs. What fresh hell is this?

HintofVintagePink · 30/11/2022 22:52

We had lovely Christmases growing up. My wonderful mum would make a dash for an advent calendar on 1 December between the school run and work. Probably not even a chocolate one either. Still just as special and we loved her so much for it.

QueenBeex · 30/11/2022 22:58

Bowl of cheerios.

AttilaTheUOkHun · 30/11/2022 23:26

baskets full of Xmas books

What bastards. Let's put a stop to this reading to your children nonsense.

treadcarefully · 30/11/2022 23:38

What is a North Pole breakfast?
