When do you put up your Christmas tree?

Somebody near me has their tree up now!

I usually do mine the first or second week in December although I might actually do mine during the last week in November this year.

What about everyone else?

1st December. They will be down out the attic on 30th so just get put up and a take away on 30th. They come down on 31 December.

Confuzzlediddled · 27/10/2022 15:42

Usually the first Sunday of advent and they stay up until 12th night, but this year DD wants us to wait until she get home from uni on the 9th.

CoffeeLover90 · 27/10/2022 15:44

1st December, I take them down before new year and do a deep clean. Used to be about a week before Christmas before I had DS, in fact I wouldn't have had any if it hadn't been for the other half at the time.
2020 they went up mid November, last year it was end of November as I was working 1st and couldn't get time off.

Also first week of December. Seems to have gotten earlier over the years though that’s probably because we now have an artificial one, not a real tree.

I have quite a collection of Christmas crockery so like to make good use of it - and the kids (and their friends) like it too.

Everything gets packed away on 1st Jan - I always find it depressing so actually hate doing it but I feel like I can’t relax properly until it’s done because I know it needs doing IYSWIM!

Exactly the same other than I pack everything away on 31st December, I just like going into the New year with everything feeling clean and fresh and as much as I adore the Christmas decorations the house feels a bit calmer once they're all down.

My neighbours also have their tree up already. It’s getting earlier and earlier each year. Started going up middle of November originally but has moved back bit by bit each year. Dd noticed it on Monday so probably went up last weekend.

Ours always go up on or as close to 1st December as we can manage but during lockdown and covid we did do it a bit earlier as DD (19) loves helping me decorate and wanted something to cheer us up. So it was about 25th November. Which I don’t think is massively early.

Always come down on or just before twelfth night (5 Jan)

snugglyblanket · 27/10/2022 20:00

I start putting up all the other decorations early, starting just before December, and hold the tree back until about 10th or so, so we get a couple of weeks of it before Christmas. Then it comes down at New Year so I can have a good clean. I love my tree but by then I really want the space back! The fireplace, windows etc usually stay decorated until the DC go back to school.

Ihavedogs · 27/10/2022 21:03

Pot grown tree, so not too early or it won’t be happy until around 12th night. Given how Christmas falls this year, it may go up mid week around the 14th.

If it was artificial it would go up a little earlier.

VincaBlue · 27/10/2022 21:06

Weekend of 3rd-4th December probably

Lysianthus · 27/10/2022 22:50

1st Sunday of advent, and then down on 6th January unless I have a severe case of the January blues, in which case end of January. And 12 days of Christmas is 26 December to 6 January (pp asked but can't find their name now)

CoffinAndCream · 27/10/2022 22:54

Weekend after the 1st.

This is exactly me. I aim for first of December (my idea being the decs are up when the DC start opening their Advent calendars) but I always miss it due to busyness, so everything is up by 1st week of December or so.

This year I have the week beginning 28th November booked off work and have decided I'm going to start putting up my Christmas decs from the last week of November, so they are up and ready for December!

I grew up in a household where we put the tree up once the Christmas holidays started which was around the 20th! It was terribly exciting, but I wouldn't want to go the majority of December without decorations up now.

However, I took a walk yesterday evening and one of the houses in my street already has their Christmas lights up outside Confused and driving around town I had spotted a tree in someone's window as early as September.

I definitely think COVID changed our perception of when to put up Christmas lights. I fondly remember threads on here where everyone had a "sod it" attitude and put them up to cheer themselves up. I think it's lovely but for me personally October is too early. The shops start doing them around mid-November here which makes sense as everyone's mind is on Christmas by then, surely Grin

AuntieMarys · 28/10/2022 07:44

8th December this year as we have visitors that weekend. Will come down New years day.

AnApparitionQuipped · 28/10/2022 07:47

The weekend before Christmas, unless Christmas falls at the start of the week in which case, two weekends before. This year it will be 17th December. It will come down on 2nd January.

EightyEighty · 28/10/2022 07:55

They're up - in the garage! Without decorations though.

Campervangirl · 28/10/2022 08:01

Christmas Eve and it comes down boxing day, a bit of a tradition in our house, boxing day sales in the morning then home and take the tree down but I'm the Grinch 😂

Just curious, but is it not a bit pointless putting it up so late just to take it down 48 hours later?

Last weekend of November - can’t WAIT! I love the tree until Boxing Day, and then I want it gone. We have a real one but it always looks a bit crisps by Christmas Day. DH won’t entertain a false one. I’d love one though.

BooksAndHooks · 28/10/2022 09:39

Ours is always up for the 1st so the closest weekend to that, usually works out very end of November.

00100001 · 28/10/2022 09:40

Around the 20th.

What's the point of having it up for such a short time?

Don't like the loo? Takes up too much room?

xogossipgirlxo · 28/10/2022 09:46

1st of December

MaverickSnoopy · 28/10/2022 09:54

Usually the week before Christmas. I can't seem to keep it alive if it goes up sooner.

HairyMcLarie · 28/10/2022 10:42

Never. Haven't had one in 20 years. Bloody lovely. Dreadful things.

shivawn · 28/10/2022 10:55

I'm not putting up one at all this year, it would just be another thing for my one year old to pull down on top of himself! Hopefully next year.
