When do you put up your Christmas tree?

Somebody near me has their tree up now!

I usually do mine the first or second week in December although I might actually do mine during the last week in November this year.

What about everyone else?

First weekend of December. We used to do it much later but increasingly found the other weekends of December get busy with other things and then the tree just becomes a source of stress because it takes bloody ages to do and running out of time to do it. In awe of people who do the tree Christmas Eve. Can only assume they must have everything else ready and organised. The thought of having to get the tree up as well as all the other last minute shite would give me a breakdown.

It does sound idyllic though spending Christmas Eve decorating and then sitting down to enjoy your efforts because everything is ready. Sadly though this is not how my life works 😩

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/10/2022 22:27

It’ll be 10th December this year, since I have a guest arriving on the 11th.

Usually a bit later.
However a smaller potted tree always goes outside the front door on 1st December.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 26/10/2022 22:44

I’ll be getting it on the 18th November as that’s when our Christmas tree farm opens and I wanna make sure I get a good tree so the best ones don’t go. I will leave in it’s stand still in netting and it will get put up anytime over the week after when everyone is available.

@MightyOaks

DH and I are off for the 12 days of Christmas so we have a lovely time with the DC.

We do observe Advent.

That's great but your kids are missing out on all the fun & festivities in the weeks leading up to Christmas. All in the name of 'tradition' God forbid you should have your tree up earlier than the Victorians! 🙄

"I know dahhhling, but we're different to everyone else don't you know? The least we acknowledge of Christmas, the further above the peasants we shall be"

11th Dec for us. The day after the anniversary of my father's death. Otherwise it would be Dec 1st

Not putting the tree up doesn't mean the DC mis out on "all the fun and festivities" though. It just means there isn't a tree up. Or have I missed something?

Babdoc · 26/10/2022 23:33

The month of Advent is a time of spiritual preparation for the arrival of Christ. Rather like Lent before Easter.
Christians who observe Advent then have twelve days of celebration of Christ’s birth, ending with Epiphany and the arrival
of the Magi. This has nothing to do with being “above the peasants”!
A lot of atheists do most of their celebrating in advance during Advent, or on Christmas Day, and have nothing left after Boxing Day. That’s up to them, but it doesn’t give them the right to cast aspersions on those of us who are religiously observant.

AlwaysLatte · 26/10/2022 23:46

Usually two weeks before Christmas at the earliest. It would die otherwise!

FallHappy1 · 26/10/2022 23:47

Last Sunday before December, so this year it'll be the 27th of November

Bogglebrain · 27/10/2022 00:41

Also first week of December. Seems to have gotten earlier over the years though that’s probably because we now have an artificial one, not a real tree.

I have quite a collection of Christmas crockery so like to make good use of it - and the kids (and their friends) like it too.

Everything gets packed away on 1st Jan - I always find it depressing so actually hate doing it but I feel like I can’t relax properly until it’s done because I know it needs doing IYSWIM!

YuliaJollyberry · 27/10/2022 01:34

1st of December they go up, primary one just with lights for a week or so whilst we craft decorations. We have a fancy breakfast and buffet tea.

ChristmasCwtch · 27/10/2022 07:48

I’m planning 3rd week of November 🤩

stargirl1701 · 27/10/2022 09:05

@MightyOaks

What are they missing exactly? We celebrate Christmas at Christmas time for 12 days. It's plenty!

noscoobydoodle · 27/10/2022 09:37

My neighbours opposite already have their (artificial) Christmas tree up in their living room - they must have put it up early october. We can see it sparkling away every evening! No other evidence of decorations yet, but now I wonder if they have so many they have to start in October .... (They are new neighbours). I'll be quite disappointed if their house doesn't look like Blackpool illuminations by December!

August 4th. Take it down July 27th so We can hoover.

🎄🤣🤣

Nanalisa60 · 27/10/2022 10:00

noscoobydoodle

maybe it’s a Halloween tree?

hiredandsqueak · 27/10/2022 10:02

One of the neighbours has Halloween decorations up all October they come down and the Christmas ones go up November 1st. They came down in February last year. Then there were Easter decorations and Jubilee decorations, I have no idea how they find the motivation tbh.

Which 12 days do you count as Christmas celebrations?

My sister in law in the US did the same when her DC’s were younger. She decorated for each season and special occasion. In her basement she has huge plastic boxes with decorations. Her neighbourhood does the same.

SeasonsHeatings · 27/10/2022 11:01

Whenever I feel like it but always by the 1st December.

Last year they went up after our daughters birthday so the 23rd November. Year before they went up 1st November.

Once Halloween has gone it's full on Christmas mode in our home and I love it!

We take it all down between Christmas and new year because I like going into the new year with nothing to do.

bells2810 · 27/10/2022 11:24

We normally put ours up on the 1st December but we have always had an artificial tree in the past. We might wait a bit longer this year since we want a real tree and don’t want it to die before the big day!

Violinist64 · 27/10/2022 11:28

My birthday is on the 6th and l don't like decorations up before then so the weekend after that date. I like my birthday cards to be up for a week so the Christmas cards pile up until the 13th at least.

neighboursmustliveon · 27/10/2022 11:34

I have it up for the first dec so it is often last weekend in November. Some years we time it to go up the weekend our town lights go on which was often the last Thursday in November but this year it's Sunday 20th which my DH days is too early (I bet he changes his mind when the time comes though 😂)

bananaboats · 27/10/2022 13:30

Around the 1st, depends when the weeknd/time off work falls.

Mistletow · 27/10/2022 13:54

I am an early decorator, earliest has been 2nd wk in November. But usually 3rd week in November. It brings the family joy and we don't get sick of it in anyway

stargirl1701 · 27/10/2022 14:23

@Parker231

From Christmas Eve until Twelfth Night.
