Somebody near me has their tree up now!

I usually do mine the first or second week in December although I might actually do mine during the last week in November this year.

What about everyone else?

Middle of December, usually, and taken down about 2nd January. I'm ready for a clear-up by then! It's a live tree that we hire for the Christmas season, and take back after, so it doesn't like being indoors for more than 3 weeks anyway...

GrumpyPanda · 26/10/2022 20:11

Christmas eve. In Germany and we do live candles, so anything else would be a fire hazard!

sageandrosemary · 26/10/2022 20:12

1st December Smile

NoDairyNoProblem · 26/10/2022 20:20

Normally we put up the tree on the first Sunday of December and take it down on the 2nd of January.

This year we going away for the first weekend in December. My plan is to put up the tree on Friday 2nd, collect DC from school/uni and head away have it all cosy with the tree ready for when we get home on Sunday 4th 🥰

EndlessMagpies · 26/10/2022 20:21

Usually the first or second Saturday in December, but adult DD has a prior commitment on one of those, and I can't remember offhand which one. We like to decorate it together - it has become something of a tradition. This year's theme will be red and gold, following on from silver last year.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/10/2022 20:22

Around the 10th, unless DH does it earlier (yeah right)

Runnerduck34 · 26/10/2022 20:23

First full weekend of December.
Although as we get a real tree every year I think should i leave it till second week so it hasn't started to wilt/ drop by Xmas day!

Snugglemonkey · 26/10/2022 20:28

The first Sunday in December usually. Not sure when to do it this year as my baby is due that weekend. Maybe the one before.

MyneighbourisTotoro · 26/10/2022 20:28

Mid November, I love making the most of Christmas!

PizzaTonight · 26/10/2022 20:29

Usually first weekend in December if I’m being organised.

December. Pleasssseeee December- can’t handle endless months of Christmas, we have not had halloween yet!!!

Funny isn't it? I suppose being 60 I've lived most of my life with not all that much going on for Halloween, so it doesn't really feature in my mental calendar as an 'important' date. People like to make a big thing of it and that's great, it is just that I'm not bothered. 🙂

November 5th is a milestone in my year though, as does the 11th / Remembrance Sunday.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/10/2022 20:33

Usually the first weekend in December. It has to go up on 3rd December this year as that's the only day off I've got when the kids are also off till Christmas Day. Confused

AuntieDickhead · 26/10/2022 20:37

Somewhere between schools breaking up and Christmas Day. It stays up until 12th night.

ContadoraExplorer · 26/10/2022 20:40

Start of December. It's a lot if effort to decorate it and I want my efforts to be seen for as long as possible!

MightyOaks · 26/10/2022 20:48

18th Dec

threegoodthings · 26/10/2022 20:52

I used to be a Xmas tree snob and put it up as close to Xmas as possible. Then a couple of years ago I finally realised that the best bit of Xmas imo is actually the build up.

So we will put it up the first weekend in December, but just with lights for a week or so. Then will add more decorations mid December.

iklboo · 26/10/2022 20:53

When DS was younger it was early December. I might put ours up on 23rd this year - it will be the first anniversary of my dad's death.

Christmas Eve.

Putting up a tree before Remembrance is simply crass.

Simply grim and vile.

HippyChickMama · 26/10/2022 20:57

Middle of December, usually after dh's birthday which is on the 13th, but if his birthday falls at the beginning of the week it goes up on the Sunday before. We take it down after twelfth night

Openmouthinsertfood · 26/10/2022 20:57

Well, all my other room decorations are up...The only reason it's not decorated is because I'm waiting on some lights I'm hoping to get next Wednesday. It's in situ though. Xmas Grin

Christmas Eve.

Putting up a tree before Remembrance is simply crass.

Whilst I agree with this sentiment in part, I also think that given how much work it is, that it's sad for it all to be up for what is actually only one day of Christmas - yes I know, 12 days of Christmas etc but to me, the festivities of Christmas begins during the period prior to the 25th. The preparations! Coming home each day to a cosy, decorated home is part of the enjoyment! Some of my fondest memories growing up is of when our Christmas tree was decorated with my grandmother's ornaments from the 1920s and it all twinkling. Climbing underneath to switch the lights on when the sun goes down. Untangling the cat from the branches & tons of lametta! (Not to mention those ridiculous foil bunting things everyone had hanging in the 80s!) Don't forget, times change.

Plus I buy Lemax buildings and I try to have them up as long as possible as I love them so much!

We’re having an early Christmas drinks party on the 3rd so I guess it’ll be the last Sunday in November this year. DP works 6 days a week and I like to make an afternoon of it with champagne and Christmas music so it’s usually a Sunday around the first week of December.

Mommabear20 · 26/10/2022 21:01

Usually do ours on the closest weekend to the 1st December, however we'll be doing it mid November this year due to Baby being due the first week on December, and want it done and sorted well before she arrives, so we can enjoy doing it with our DC as it's the first year either of them will really understand.

ChocChipOwl · 26/10/2022 21:02

Always the 5th December. My son's birthday is the 4th so we get that out the way and then do it. Its early enough so I have time to appreciate my lovely decorations - I wouldn't consider November as that feels wrong

justasking111 · 26/10/2022 21:03

Decorations early December, the tree will go up but won't be lit or decorated until DS comes home for Xmas he wants to do it as usual
