Welcome to the 2022 Poncetastic thread. With a nod to Fellatio (wherever she may be) at the stroke of midnight, let the poncing commence.

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Christmas cake is in the oven. Mulled wine is being warmed up as I type

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 19/11/2022 16:19

I have been looking for my Christmas planner book for a week, finally found it today!

It was a spur of the moment buy in the summer, and I've been looking forward to using it since. Only thing better than poncing is writing lists and plans about poncing....

Ooh @SirSamVimesCityWatch that looks lovely. What's the inside like?

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 19/11/2022 16:38

Pretty fab, I think. Lots of lovely sections.

Plus each section has a range of pages. And everything has a space to write the year at the top, so that you can get multiple years of use out of it.

These are the pages in the present planning section.

And it has pockets! Including a ziplock plastic one!

I promise I am not on commission Grin

That book looks lovely

And the fact it has pockets... i love a dress with pockets but a book with pockets is even better. Especially if there's a ziplock one too

Confusedmeanderings · 19/11/2022 17:30

@SirSamVimesCityWatch thats a gorgeous planner! I want one now!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 19/11/2022 18:43

It was from Amazon if anyone wants one. I am going to sit with a glass on wine in front of the fire later and start filling it in. Happy days!

LaChatte · 19/11/2022 22:11

Tomorrow is stir up Sunday, I've bought all the ingredients, looking forward to getting everyone to give it a stir (DS said I had to wait for him to get back from his GF's house).

Am I the only one alarmed at the PP who hasn't been to London since 1918 ? 😅

LaChatte · 19/11/2022 22:13

@Trumpton (I was too distracted by the Key lime pie to see the name)

SilverSalver · 20/11/2022 13:51

@SirSamVimesCityWatch I love that planner. Puts my lined A4 (which goes back several years) to shame.
I do love a list.

Trumpton · 20/11/2022 21:10

Ah @LaChatte
I am fiiine.
It has been a fairy awful few years of cancer and chemo and operations and Covid. Then moving MIL in with us as she was too frail and confused to cope alone.
But here we are 4 years along and visiting family and getting hugs from nieces and nephews and rebuilding lives.
Life is good!

Livingonjuice · 20/11/2022 21:19

Please may I join? I'm a wannabe and love reading and looking at your creations but am not at all arty. I've decided to start small by sewing though and I already bake. Tastes good but I'm so awful at presentation!!
My first Christmas sew project is here. Please let me join you !! ❤️

@Trumpton il glad you're managing to get back on top of things, indeed it seems like a spectacularly shitty few years you've been through. I am still wondering if the 1918 comment is a typo, an exaggeration or a brain fart 😂

LaChatte · 20/11/2022 21:28

Or that you're reeeeeeaaaaaaally old 🤣🤣

lucysmam · 20/11/2022 21:39

Hello @Livingonjuice 👋 your sewing's very neat; my machine's not been out to make anything in a long time, it mainly sees repairs lately 🙄 For presentation ideas, have a look on Pinterest or search & click "images"...or get the dc (if you have them!) take care of that part. Dd2 is very nearly 13 but still chucked almost every cake decoration I own on the Christmas cake last year 🤣 I think it even featured elephants from the Noah's ark cake I made dd1 when she was a baby 🤷‍♀️

TheWoollybacksWife · 20/11/2022 21:46

@Livingonjuice that's lovely. The fabric is beautiful.

Not much actual poncing happening here although I am knitting a couple of sets of dolls clothes for a neighbour's daughter. I've ordered my turkey and I've got flowers on order to do a centrepiece.

Trumpton · 20/11/2022 23:33

@LaChatte
Oh boy! I never noticed 1918!

Livingonjuice · 21/11/2022 07:13

@TheWoollybacksWife @lucysmam thanks!
I've not long had a machine and having to YouTube everything from spool winding to how to turn fabric - proper basics but it was so soothing!

LaChatte · 21/11/2022 08:19

Well, I didn't get round to doing my Christmas pudding yesterday, not it will have to wait until tomorrow evening/Wednesday due to work 😭.
I have lots of things to make in pottery but I need to tidy up my workshop (it tends to get used as a dumping ground if I'm not in it regularly 😠 ). Once again work is getting in the way of my poncing, so annoying that one has bills to pay 🙄.

😂😂😂 I do this all the time thanks to long covid brain fog 🤯🌫

HintofVintagePink · 21/11/2022 15:07

As promised, church garlands up today! One picture of them up, then with the lights on and additional tea lights added.
The church is quite big so I couldn’t get a photo of everything up together unfortunately. Quite pleased though!

@HintofVintagePink Absolutely stunning!!!!

MammaWeasel · 21/11/2022 16:16

Gorgeous!

Today I rolled out some air dry clay, cut it into hearts and then embossed the hearts with some tiny plastic trim that looks like fairy lights (£1.99 from The Range). This is them drying on a tray. I thought I could tread them with pretty string and give them out as tree decorations. If I'm feeling brave!

I had planned to paint just the fairy lights, but I think I prefer them plain now they're made.
