The 2022 Poncetastic Christmas Thread

Welcome to the 2022 Poncetastic thread. With a nod to Fellatio (wherever she may be) at the stroke of midnight, let the poncing commence.

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Just delurking to say thank you to everyone on here!

I am utterly hopeless at keeping up with conversations on threads like this, but I have been following along since the prequel thread.

Thanks to the inspiration on here I have had a thoroughly ponced Christmas and I have totally loved doing it all. Wreath, willow napkin rings, mince pie baklava, 7 foot table swag - its all been great! Also lots of inspiration for next year.

Is there ever a year round poncing thread? Is spring poncing a thing?!

VivaJen · 31/12/2022 19:24

@delishdelosh oooh I could see an Easter one! I'm thinking foraged twigs in a big vase with egg decorations, garlands, spring wreaths...

Here’s a spring bird ready for Easter (Attic24’s pattern). I’m going to crochet a spring flower Garland or some bunting.

Also delurking, it’s been so lovely seeing everyone’s creations.
I could absolutely go for a year round poncing thread (would we invade Arts & Crafts?). I think the toddler is going to miss the Xmas decs.
We’ve all been down with this awful lurgy since the week before Christmas. Once revived we will declare a new holiday of Janumas and have a big treat meal with table laid nicely, revisit the recipes which seemed good but couldn’t really taste properly and polish off the leftover fancy wine. Maybe try and get wider family together for a curry and games night.

ShakeYourFeathers · 01/01/2023 10:36

I'm here for a Easter pouncing thread or a general pouncing thread

BiddyPop · 01/01/2023 11:55

Oh, I forgot to take a pic of all my bookmarks when they were finished. Da*n. But they were well received.

3 different gins for another couple (sloe, bramble and clementine) also well received. And the rhubarb delight (vodka based) and clementine gin in our office "dirty Santa" exchange.

No mince pies this year (no time to make pastry) but that just means another year maturing in jars for extra fab-ness next year. My Christmas pudding fridge cake was a hit again (I was to do dessert, was going to do something like apple pie and fruit salad, but Dh asked for the pudding instead of pie).

My plans for next year involve lots of mince pies, loads of sewing for presents, and hopefully finally making my own wreath!

Is it time for a Christmas 2023 thread or are there rules... does it have to start in Sept? I have already made damson gin, damson jam and some spiced apple chutney 😇

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 13/08/2023 22:54

I baked some spiced plums and blackberries today and it felt like autumn for sure.
I think we had a pre thread last year maybe?

TheBucktoothedGirlFromLuxembourg · 13/08/2023 22:58

I think we had an early general Christmas crafting/food prep thread last year but the Poncetastic thread traditionally starts on 25th September.

Winterlove · 14/08/2023 08:54

I’m ready to ponce 🎄

BeastOfBODMAS · 14/08/2023 12:22

I’m ready for a pre-thread. Like the pre-drinks of my teenage years except with pickled sprouts chat instead of flaming sambuca shots.

BobBobBobbing · 14/08/2023 13:59

Ah kindred spirits. I've started to create my poncing 2023 wishlist Grin

LaChatte · 14/08/2023 18:26

There's a sort of pre-ponce thread where chrismas crafts are being discussed already. Being on the app I can't link to it though.

lucysmam · 14/08/2023 19:40

Ooh, for a mo there I thought I was late to the poncing party as always

MoltenLasagne · 14/08/2023 21:19

Ooh where's the pre-poncing thread? I need to be prepped seriously ahead of December this year so already planning.
