Welcome to the 2022 Poncetastic thread. With a nod to Fellatio (wherever she may be) at the stroke of midnight, let the poncing commence.

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

However, I have been inspired by a few projects this year. Inspiration to motivation to production are two very big steps, though.

There's some epic poncing been going on by everyone. The photos all look fab. Sadly poncing has kind of ground to a halt here. I'm struggling a bit with the side effects of some drugs I have to take. I've also been overdoing it a bit and not resting enough. I've had a good look at my to do lists and edited them down to just the things that really do need to be done and I'm trying not to mind about the things that would be very nice but are not really necessary. For once in my life I was quite well ahead anyway, so its not too bad!

Confused it’s definitely time to cut back and hold ourselves in kindly acceptance.

Cheese straws in the making. Marmite batch and tomato chutney batch.
MIL used to do these every year but handed over to our dd a few years ago…

We will raise a glass of sherry and a cheese straw to you darling.

I have 10 for lunch today. I'll do a buffet I said. I forgot that a buffet is 10 x harder than a cooked dinner, fridge juggling, baking sausage rolls that I made and froze a month ago.
I'm just on a break as DH and DS2 have lounged around all morning and have now "gone for a walk while it's sunny". I will crack the whip when they return😁

juat finished icing the Christmas cake. Not as good as any of the ones on this thread. But I am impressed with the snowflakes which were done with a stencil rolling pin and were a bit of an experiment.

the drunken Santa is a yearly visitor to the Feathers family cake. But my mission this year is to get some more cake toppers.

@HannahDefoesTrenchcoat I would’ve done exactly the same!

I am done!
turkey and ham cooked. Veg prepped. Bit more wine and I am off to bed.
Croissants and pan au chocolate and stollen I’m morning with DD and children.

Just finished last bit of pouncing the Christmas pavlova. No in this house like Christmas pudding especially after a Christmas dinner

The paper whites didn't flower 😔

Mine aren't in flower yet, but the leaf spikes are growing at about an inch a day!

Out of the 3 sets I did, one flowered before Christmas and I gave it away, the other was spiking up when we left at my parents yesterday and the other is just leaves all over the place 🙈 not sure what happened as they were all treated the same !

My paperwhites will be flowering in about Feb at the rate they are going. My hyacinths are slow too but I can at least see buds forming. Just gone to take a photo and actually can see one paperwhite bud

How strange about the Paperwhites. We’re they definitely the right sort?
I started mine on 14th November this year. Left them in cool dim place until about 2nd December then into light warm room and they were perfect. I grow mine on pebbles rather than plant them in soil but that really shouldn’t make any difference.
I grew 3 lots this year and they all worked.
Hmmm …..

@Trumpton do you think I'd be able to do my Paperwhites now? DH tidied the box with the bulbs away and I totally forgot before Christmas but I've just come across them.

give them a couple of cool dim weeks then warm them up. Should be in flower in 5 weeks.
