Welcome to the 2022 Poncetastic thread. With a nod to Fellatio (wherever she may be) at the stroke of midnight, let the poncing commence.

"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.

So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.

Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.

Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Please could someone recommend instructions for making crochet snowflakes? I have a hook and the wool but not the knowledge. I was supposed to do them 2 years ago and never got round to it. I'd love to have them ready this year. I can't watch a video on YouTube because I'm watching from the front and need to be behind.

lucysmam · 13/11/2022 18:48

@AutisticLegoLover try Attic24 for the snowflakes. I'll be back in a mo with a link...

lucysmam · 13/11/2022 18:52

These were how I learned. I think I probably drove @TheWoollybacksWife nuts with random questions 🤣

I bought the tray with the handles earlier, for the shelf and polished off the slurp of Bailey's that was there. I've decided now though, that I clearly need a taller spice shelf. The girls were like 🙄🙄🙄at me earlier when I announced my plans 🤷‍♀️

EspeciallyD · 13/11/2022 19:08

Yes, my crochet snowflakes are Attic24 pattern. Stiffened with a mix of PVA glue and water.

AutisticLegoLover · 13/11/2022 19:19

Thank you!

TheWoollybacksWife · 13/11/2022 20:08

I'm nuts already @lucysmam!

I have finished my DD's wreath for her classroom and the only other bit of Christmas knitting/crochet that I've got planned is a pair of socks for SIL. I'm not sure if I've already posted this photo.

I love that wreath. And a wonderful decoration for a school classroom

TangledWebofMincemeatDeception · 13/11/2022 23:02

@HintofVintagePink Your wreath is beautiful!

@TheWoollybacksWife such a fab creation!

@lucysmam I’m glad you found your tray.

@HannahDefoesTrenchcoat thank you for posting the recipe.

lucysmam · 14/11/2022 07:18

I thought I'd swap the candles in my stags for red swirly ones before work. What was meant to be a quick thing to do, is going to have to be done after work instead; their bases are too wide for the stags 🙄 so I need to either melt them a bit or cut them to fit.

HintofVintagePink · 14/11/2022 11:48

Sorry I can’t remember who was looking for a mirrored drinks tray, but I’ve just seen these in B & M

@HintofVintagePink it was me! I've bought one now but thank you for thinking of me 😊

I've just cleared out 2 drawers of my normal freezer to fill with goodies. Dd1 wants to bake mince pies again. This will most certainly not be while we're also trying to pre-prep Christmas dinner this year 🙄 so now there's space to fill.

There are a few tubs of undetermined items to be eaten through too...I will make that my Tuesday job (Tuesday is fend for yourself day as we're at Rainbows and Guides).

Bareknees · 14/11/2022 18:53

Just finished my first bit of Christmas crafting. Moving on to crochet stockings now.

Oh my goodness @Bareknees that is stupendous!

Bareknees · 14/11/2022 19:08

Thanks @TheWoollybacksWife . It’s not as hard as it looks. I just followed the pattern.

MammaWeasel · 14/11/2022 19:08

That is totally amazing @Bareknees !

I fed my christmas cake today #littlewins

BeastOfBODMAS · 14/11/2022 19:21

That’s gorgeous @Bareknees !
I was tempted by a similar knitting pattern but I already have an unfinished blanket on the go.
Yours is especially impressive for being ready in good time to enjoy using it!

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/11/2022 19:25

DH has bought me a gift voucher for my local yarn shop and I'm going to use it to learn how to do colour work. I've been knitting for 45+ year and fair isle is a foreign language.

Hopefully I'll be able to do something that spectacular next year.

HintofVintagePink · 14/11/2022 19:27

@Bareknees That is stunning!

Bideshi · 14/11/2022 20:12

That's incredibly good. Heirloom good. Well done.

I'm very excited about the latest bit of poncing chez the Meandering household. Our house opens straight onto the street and at the front of the house is our dining room with a large window overlooking the pavement outside. Years ago, when we were working and cash comfortable but time poor, we thought it would be a great idea to have a model Christmas Village that passers-by could look at through the window. So, we invested in a load of Lemax buildings and bits and pieces, but then never got round to doing it. Now we are both retired so we're cash poor and time rich and we're actually doing it! The DH has been building a construction to put the village on. I am in charge of making a background sky with twinkly stars. Then we'll both have fun arranging the village. I'm absurdly excited about this! The plan is to have it ready for December 1st, so I'll post pictures then.

I'm just jumping in as a wannabe ponceuse and adore this idea ! Can't wait to see pics. A bakery near us does similar and I love it

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 14/11/2022 23:24

Bloody hell, bareknees, that is top notch poncing.

Just finished my first bit of Christmas crafting. Moving on to crochet stockings now.

That is amazing

Trumpton · 15/11/2022 04:34

@Bareknees.
That is an heirloom! It’s like a sampler. I do hope you have a label with your name and date on it sewn to the back!

I am wide awake waiting for Tesco slots to open!
Been coughing all night with post covid chest!

lucysmam · 15/11/2022 06:52

@Trumpton I set my alarm for 6am & currently 97000& something in the queue. Should have set it earlier 🙄

katienana · 18/11/2022 07:34

I've completed the first of my stockings. I was so nervous about sewing it together as I had to do it by hand but I'm really happy with the outcome.
This weekend we are going to make a Santa stop here sign out of plywood. I'm doing the painting more than the woodwork.
