I sowed my chilli seeds today. I only did 48, as there were too many last year! They're warming up in the propagator now.

My Desiree potatoes are chitting more enthusiastically than the Maris Piper ones. 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure they'll all grow!

I'm debating what else to sow now, as I'm just not convinced by some things, like squash, as they never want to ripen. And I won't do my beans until later next month, as they don't like cold evenings. I'm paring back on things that just don't do much.

This was the first warm and inform letter we'd had since the beginning of January. They send one when they've had three or more cases in a class.

My PCR was negative. Ds still very positive. I know legally we can go out etc and he is complete fine but I just don't feel right doing it. Even though if I hadn't tested I wouldn't know he had it!

WreckTangled · 26/03/2022 17:39

I haven't done anything today. Literally spend all day in my bed doing uni work. Annoying as I have things to do but I won't get it done otherwise.

Morning!

It's gorgeous weather here. We're going to the beach later on and we'll have a BBQ there. We have a Weber Go Anywhere for such things. 😁

I was awake for ages in the middle of the night as DH woke me snoring. I was very unimpressed. 🙄 Loudest he's ever snored.

Fluffy I'm not too late to chit potatoes am I? Was planning to get them started today. Was going to buy from wilko but was reading yesterday that I can use a potato from my cupboard?

Yesterday was a disaster - too long (and outing) to go into here but it meant I got very little done aside from tidying the garden a bit and fixing my broken plant pot.

Planning to pop to wilko today to pick up the things I wanted yesterday, will pot chillis, sort potatoes and pot on 2 house plants.

Then lunch at dm's and home relatively early.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2022 10:04

You can use cupboard ones, but they aren't guaranteed free from diseases like seed potatoes. I'd just buy a bag (they'll have already started chitting, so you'll be fine). It's a few weeks until they go in the ground (Easter weekend is traditional, for some reason!).

Sorry yesterday wasn't good. Hopefully today will be better.

Eurgh , weather here is just a bit pants , rain overnight so everything is drab. It's meant to be cloudy with light breeze so the washing is going out .

I'm going to faff about making soup and some bread , multi tasking with a hair mask on then DS and DD will make dinner this evening ( they haven't volunteered for this BTW , I have told them they're doing it , so it'll be interesting )

WreckTangled · 27/03/2022 11:20

Sorry you had a bad day crazy

Ds is negative today (much to his disappointment) hopefully he will be again tomorrow so he can go to school and I can go to work.

CrazyBaubles · 27/03/2022 13:20

Glad your ds is negative now Wreck.

Today is off to a much better start so I'm hoping it's much better than yesterday was (although part of yesterdays disaster was due to my sister being a selfish arse and I'm seeing her later so we'll see)!

I went to wilko and bought the veg growing bags (3 taller ones for potatoes and a 2 pack of shallower ones which should work for carrots and either garlic or onions). Also bought a plastic lid thing for the chillis and some seed potatoes and the last slimline water butt they had.
With the seed potatoes there was also some garlic with a label that said it could be planted now so I got some of those too.

I finally feel like I've got started after planning and talking about growing food for so long - I now have some chilli seeds on the conservatory windowsill (my lid thing wasn't big enough so I also have 2 under the bottom of a grape container and one under the cut off bottom of a plastic squash bottle Blush). I'm not doing anywhere near as many as you though Fluffy, I think I've done 15. Plus I also have potatoes chitting in the kitchen.

Going to walk the dog to clear my head before going to dm's for a late lunch.

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2022 14:04

At least today started better, Crazy. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

Crazy, I do plenty in case they don't all germinate. Though last year's 70+ was too many! 🌶 🌶 🌶🤣

We have a sack of chillies in the freezer and never have to buy any, which is good!

I've been busy today: sewed a button onto a HP cloak; made muffins and brownie; hung the washing out; cleaned the kitchen (etc); and ironed the uniforms. I'm now going to shower and go to the allotment to feed the birds. Then we're off to the beach! Hopefully the car park won't be too rammed, even though the weather is good, as people will be off doing other stuff for Mother's Day.

FireflyGirl · 27/03/2022 20:57

How was the beach, Fluffy? We just had a quiet day pottering at home with DMIL for a picnic lunch. Nice to not really do anything ☺️

I have trouble with chillies, don't know what I am doing wrong. Been thinking of getting a heated propogator to see if that helps. I was germinating them in the airing cupboard but the coir dried out so I had to water them every day and a few of them bit the dust when I forgot Blush

NoWordForFluffy · 27/03/2022 21:33

I'd definitely lose them if I couldn't see them, Firefly. Out of sight, and all that jazz!

The beach was nice. Bit cold by the end though. 🥶

272 I can't believe it's April this week. Shock Where did March go, when February dragged to at least 50 days??🤯
Cloudy here at the mo, but I think the sun might make an appearance soon.
Slept for 8hrs last night - I've not done that for a while.
DH is doing a tip run (polystyrene and cardboard) later and might wash the cars so I'll get a toothbrush out and scrub the grille on the polo - it's gone a bit lot green. 😲

NoWordForFluffy · 28/03/2022 17:34

I was going to say the same re March. It's flow past, hasn't it? I'm now officially in the last 12 months of paying my student loan back. Whoop, whoop!

The sun came out here on and off for most of the day. It's lovely out there now. ☀️

The singing studio next door replaced our right hand fence today, so it's now lovely on that side. Next door on the left did that one last year. Didn't think it was possible that we had no fence to be responsible for, but I'm sure our landlord won't mind! Actually, I do think it is ours, but next door clearly wanted a) a new fence and b) the good side!

I wish I could sleep for 8 hours, Puss. Did you get the car grille clean?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 28/03/2022 17:58

fluffy No. NDN is off today, so we'll wait until they're in work tomorrow it's quiet outside. Wink
Toothbrush, cloths, sponge, bucket and waxy cleaner on standby. Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/03/2022 19:21

I had a day of Annual Leave today (tail end of the financial year)
I wasged the car too Xmas Grin but I need to go round with a cloth where the door frames and bit of the bumper where the boot closes are.

I woke up this morning to hear NDN scraping his windscreen !
Went shopping (mainly to look at a white blouse in M&S which of course they didn't have , )
I got my Summer/Holiday clothes out today and decided this was what would fill a gap . Might need to order it online .....

TheWoollybacksWife · 28/03/2022 20:00

Evening all!

Quiet evening here. DH and DD2 have gone to visit MIL so I have cleared up all the dinner dishes, cleaned the kitchen and I'm now having a peaceful 🍷 while deciding what to watch on the tv.

Did your DS get to school today Wreck?

DH and DS cleaned the cars over the weekend Puss. DH does it because he loves me and DS does it for 💷

WreckTangled · 28/03/2022 20:51

Yes he did! He's still coughing and sneezing and has a runny nose poor thing. He also mentioned his chest hurt earlier, it seems to have hit him a bit harder this time although he never had a fever or anything.

I've just folded about four loads of washing. When I win the lottery I'm outsourcing laundry Grin

Dh got the van seen. It needs a new radiator and something else. The sales place said he would pay for it if we took it to the garage he uses which is fine but ten mins later he called back and said to get our garage to send him over a quote and if he's happy with it he will pay. Our garage is going to do it as cheap as possible (dh will buy him a few beers) so hopefully that'll all be sorted next week. One less stress I suppose.

NoWordForFluffy · 28/03/2022 21:20

The selling garage should sort the van, not be all funny about whether they're happy with the quote or not...somebody doesn't know the statutory rights of the buyer (or does and is being a dick about it).

Our car could do with a clean...wonder who I could outsource that to?!

Morning!

Last day of sunshine today, apparently. The run gets broken with (much-needed) rain tomorrow.

My allotment plum tree has flowers for the first time, so I'm hoping there may be some fruit this year. Not many flowers, mind you. Though the apricot had flowers last year and no fruit. 🤷‍♀️ It's flowering again this year, so hopefully will be more productive!

There was a bee buzzing round my grape hyacinth, which makes me happy!

I now have two bird tables hanging from my apple tree as the birds aren't interested here! Mr Robin was bellowing his head off in the tree next door, so hopefully he's happy!

I do love spring and watching everything come to life! My rhubarb plants are going great guns...should have a good crop.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 29/03/2022 07:00

They are going to sort it. They wanted us to use their garage, which is fair enough, but it's 40 miles from us. So he offered (we didn't ask) to pay our garage if they could just quote it first which I think is reasonable as he hasn't seen the damage himself.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 29/03/2022 10:27

Morning I saw loads of huge bumble bees at mum's house on Sunday. I love them, like little furry airships.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/03/2022 10:43

On Sunday we had a very brave /daft bumble bee noisiy pootering round

MaleCat was going back to his feral kitten days ( he was born feral ) and kept chasing it .
Erm, black+yellow=Warning MaleCat .
I kept telling him he wouldn't want that bee to bite him back .

Then it was round me when I put washing out . (Had to shake it before it came indoors to make sure the bee wasn't hiding )

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 29/03/2022 16:18

We have rain.🌧

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/03/2022 16:32

I've just had a quick look at our weather forecast - heavy rain Wed night , then sleet , And heavy snow early Thurs morning Xmas Shock

What The Jeff !
Last Friday I saw a bloke walking about in a shorts'n'sandle combination , he was one of those that really shouldn't

People were getting their flip flops out , now snow ?

Most likely the forecast will change , it isn't usually 100% accurate .
