Speaking of draughty flaps, my friend sent me this photo earlier! 😱

Fluffy that outfit is mind boggling.

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/03/2022 09:55

Crazy a properly designed utility room is first on my list of "must haves" for my dream home. (Second is double fronted bay windows for Christmas trees and a fireplace with a mantlepiece for a garland). The Sarah Beeny programme where she gutted and redesigned her house had a fabulous mud room/laundry room and I coveted it so much. I've lived in two houses with utility rooms and they are basically narrow corridors leading from the kitchen to the back door with barely enough room for the washing machine and tumble dryer.

DH has a cold frame in the garden and takes great delight in opening and closing his flaps depending on the weather. It's like living in a Carry On film here some days 🤦🏻‍♀️

CrazyBaubles · 24/03/2022 11:04

Bloody hell Fluffy, my poor poor eyes 🙈

Woolly when I was young my dad designed and built our house and it had a lovely utility room - it was only slightly smaller than the spare room so has washer, drier, freezer and a tall cupboard for the hoover / mop etc, plus a worktop, airer on a pulley and cupboards.

Mine now is very small - 5ft x 5.5ft with no windows so the only light comes through the tiny window in the downstairs loo that it leads to.
I don't have a tumble drier and there's already a worktop over the washing machine.
I just want a tall cupboard for the hoover / mop etc and a few kitchen cupboards to hide away all the random stuff we store in there which hopefully won't be too much of a PITA (although the gas and electric meters are in there so I need to make sure they're not blocked)

I feel a bit guilty. I was just in a meeting with 50 other people and I wasn't needed so I turned camera and mic off and used the time to cut and paint my toenails Blush

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2022 12:19

Woolly, I'm with you on the utility and double fronted house! I want both!

We have a small utility which is better than noting. But also a bit crap!

Forgot to say, I've ordered our first batch of Christmas wine as Sainsbury's has 25% off if you buy 6.

I spent £45 in points, and they're being delivered tonight! Plenty of subs on them, sadly. But the replacements look OK.

They'll go on top of the cupboard on the landing. Stocking up! 🤣 Mincemeat ingredients nearer Easter when I have time to make it.

CrazyBaubles · 24/03/2022 14:03

My dream home list is similar - double fronted cottage, utility room, log burner with lovely mantle piece, banisters, bay window, flat garden and craft room.
And, if we're talking lottery winning dream home, a 'migraine' room with air con, no windows, comfy bed and lockable door!

You're very organised Fluffy!
I've done nothing for Christmas except receive a request for some Christmas themed crochet badges for dm to wear to work 🙄

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 24/03/2022 15:21

DH saw the pic - "She's going to feel a draught even when there isn't one" Shock Thankfully he didn't suggest buying one for me
Crazy my mum had a pulley with an airer - I'd love one for the garage so that has gone on my wish list
Woolly double fronted bays are an absolute must. I have a bow 😥and have enormous envy of everyone with a bay.
Perfect house - add open fires can't be bothered with these new fangled log burners, I was taught to lay a fire before I started school and air con for the summer, triple garage (for my imaginary Jag or rare Alfa) and a decent garden, with a veg plot/orchard.
fluffy Are you sure they'll last that long Grin I'm going to Sains on sat - tomorrow is B&Q & B&M

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2022 15:25

A rare Alfa is one that hasn't fallen apart! They're fussy cars my ex had a Spider. Also expensive.

The swimsuit looks like cheese wire for the nethers, doesn't it?! Wreck buys from Schein...were you tempted, Wreck?!

Puss, we bought wine last March too. We're very restrained! 🤣

SZ Zagato.
V rare.
And a Jag to pop to the shops in. Grin

CrazyBaubles · 24/03/2022 15:44

puss our old house had a bay window but it was in a room we didn't really use because it was Baltic all the time.
In a standard semi with flat windows now and it's very boring.

DH had an Alpha a long time ago. It came with a little sign on the back that said 'This is the fun car. My other car works' 😂

Not sure what I'd go for exactly. I like the idea of a 4x4 or pick up truck but don't like the squashed look that's in fashion now (like the Range Rover), plus something fun (Morgan, Aston) and a classic (60s mini, old fiat 500). Then I'd probably need something I'd actually feel comfortable driving 😂

WreckTangled · 24/03/2022 15:47

I've only bought from shein once.

I just went to the opticians and need to glasses £££££ not cheap when you want designer ones

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2022 17:29

We'd just go for a fancy Volvo, Crazy. Boring but reliable.

Will that swimsuit mean you make a second purchase? 🤣🤣

Glasses are stupidly dear. I get £75 towards them from work, but it doesn't go far I tend to wait for a Boots offer.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 24/03/2022 18:00

We can get free eye tests from work I think but mine are free anyway. I did get 20% student discount but still expensive. I'm going to have to start wearing them more often too, currently I only wear them for driving which is probably why I can't see anything Grin

CrazyBaubles · 24/03/2022 18:14

Wreck I have to put my glasses on as soon as I open my eyes as I even the numbers on my alarm clock next to the bed aren't clear without them Blush
I don't spend much on frames - my current pair were around £50 I think (vision express own make) but I then pay a small fortune for my lenses which are expensive anyway but I also get them thinned and have the anti glare coating etc. Plus I buy prescription sunglasses which are always more of a PITA and more expensive.
I dread to think how much I've spent over the years...

I'm not long back from a dog walk. We went around a football field where the kids team were warming up. Their coach had music blaring and had them doing circuits where each stop was a dance move 😂

WreckTangled · 24/03/2022 18:34

I get the antiglare too, it's essential when driving at night I think! My lenses aren't any additional cost, if they were I would definitely go with the cheaper frames. I got some mulberry ones and it was £190 all together. They're pretty cool so that should encourage me to wear them...

Dd is being ungrateful and moaning about how all her friends have more money than us. I told her she needs to make poorer friends then she will realise how lucky she is HmmGrin

My car struggled to start today and dh's van has a warning light on it. He thinks it's leaking oil too. Seriously how much more bad luck with cars are we going to have? It's ridiculous.

FireflyGirl · 24/03/2022 18:39

I've included a cupboard in the hallway part of my extension specifically for hoover/brush/mop and other cleaning stuff! My utility has the tumble drier and washer, but also a toilet, sink and row of coat hooks. Depending how posh I'm feeling I call it the utility, the cloakroom or the downstairs loo Grin

Yikes Fluffy, that will not be going on my birthday wishlist ShockShock

It's been a long time since I've needed glasses (long story, but essentially my vision on one eye is so bad my brain gave up trying to see out of it so they stopped trying to correct it). DH buys his from somewhere online, goggles4u or something. Don't know if they do designer frames, though.

FireflyGirl · 24/03/2022 18:42

Wreck ask her if that means she's going to start looking for a job? Grin

WreckTangled · 24/03/2022 18:45

I got my last ones online and they were cheaper but I much prefer being able to try them on and have them fitted as I have wonky ears

Ds' has Covid in his class again. Five off currently (which is almost 1/4!). I think I'll LFT him again just in case as he's still coughing.

WreckTangled · 24/03/2022 18:46

We've told her to get a job but she just rolls her eyes and says she can't as she's only 11. Excuses, excuses Wink

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2022 18:50

I got these glasses fitted and they're too bloody loose and fall off way too easily. They drive me bonkers.

Are you able to drive, Firefly?

Our two have had constant Covid in their classes. No sign here though.

Firefly, those rooms are called a loo-tility, apparently! If we buy this house eventually, we want to do that. At present we have a downstairs bathroom, so we'd convert the loft, split the front bedroom into two, convert DS' bedroom into a bathroom and then extend the kitchen into the current utility and convert the current bathroom into a loo-tility.

Thankfully, DH can do labouring, but it'll cost a fair amount. It'll transform the house though.

NoWordForFluffy · 24/03/2022 18:52

Oh, we were the poor family at school, Wreck. I do empathise. I don't think I ever mentioned it to mum though as it would've gone down very badly. 🤣

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 24/03/2022 19:39

Well ds has Covid again. Ffs 🤯

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/03/2022 19:40

Wreck if you have to wear your glasses every day then don't think of them as a one off cost but as a pence per day expense. At £190 they work out at 26p per day if you keep them for 2 years. The same as a Freddo.

TheWoollybacksWife · 24/03/2022 19:42

Your poor DS Wreck. Hopefully he'll not be too poorly.
