What's going on?!
Went online to order some last minute gifts from M&S and it's too late...
No click n collect nor delivery dates until
29th December!
Bugger.

Husband will only have books this year. No slippers. Dressing gown or socks. Welll, not until after Christmas anyway. In which case I might as well wait for the sales 😃

And you left it so late because ? 🙄

phishy · 21/12/2021 08:46

@FortunesFave

Not if you've had unexpected expenses you can't. And it's incredibly supercilious to preach about "spreading the cost" when some people have fuck all to spread.

So what’s your solution for those who have fuck all to spend and want to order presents on 21 Dec from shops who won’t commit to delivery pre-Chritmas?

PriamFarrl · 21/12/2021 08:50

Having a husband is not unexpected.

FurryAntiWaxer · 21/12/2021 08:55

Imagine a Mumsnet post on boxing day announcing they didn't get a gift from DH because m&s had no delivery spots available when he tried to order on December 20? Xmas Hmm

mafted · 21/12/2021 08:56

I can't speak for the OP but my late shopping this year is due to several reasons, One person had only just said what they would like for Christmas, A couple of things I wanted have been OOS and now they're back in stock, and finally The Twitch Smile
Heidipi · 21/12/2021 08:56

DP is that you? 😂

TheQuernsSperch · 21/12/2021 08:57

Picturing OP's husband sitting in his threadbare dressing gown and holey socks covered by his old slippers with the soles coming off, re reading his tatty paperbacks over Christmas.

It's Dickensian I tell you! must do better next year OP.

Derbee · 21/12/2021 08:58

Wow, this has shocked me. I was going to wait until Christmas morning to try and get a Christmas afternoon delivery slot with all of the food we’ll need. Wondering if I should try earlier now?

Erictheavocado · 21/12/2021 08:59

IME, if you fall into either of these categories, you don't tend to shop for Christmas gifts at M&S.

I tried to order something from M&S on behalf of my DM almost two weeks ago and there were no delivery slots available until after Christmas.
Amazon are still offering delivery before Christmas.

nanbread · 21/12/2021 09:02

@Solmum1964

I placed an order on Thursday for a top for me, not a Christmas present, for click and collect on Saturday. Received an email on Friday to say it was delayed and would arrive on Monday, which it did, but there is obviously a problem.
Oh that's annoying, I've ordered a lot of stuff to pick up on Thursday 😬
AD80 · 21/12/2021 09:05

Maybe don't leave it until last minute 😅

BigPlanes · 21/12/2021 09:06

I’m still buying gifts. I’m usually super organised but several things have happened this year which have meant we haven’t had the head space.

OP I hope you are able to pop to a shop or have a loved one do so

RedskyThisNight · 21/12/2021 09:08

If you have fuck all to spread then you can't afford presents at all. People with no money don't magically suddenly have more just because it is December.

Of course if you've planned to buy presents in November and have an unexpected expense, then this throws things out of whack. But this should only be a small minority of people, otherwise it becomes rather "expected" that you will have an expense.

AndARiverBeneathYourFeet · 21/12/2021 09:11

I am always surprised by Easter.

Funnily enough I am never surprised by Christmas. Something to do with it being on the same date each year.

MeredithGreyishblue · 21/12/2021 09:11

Unexpected husband in the bagging area...

PigeonLittle · 21/12/2021 09:13

Glad it is not just me in this predicament!

We have been really tight for the past couple of years (I think we'd have to save up to be poor right now) and have been squirreling away little bits of money as and when I can all year. Christmas isnt an emergency that you suddenly find you have to pay out (such as our car's MOT being due in December and changing the car isnt an option) so there is no reason that some money couldnt be saved over the year so that you dont have to get stressed come December. If you cant do that then I dont think you should be having to buy presents for anyone.
mafted · 21/12/2021 09:18

For years we waited for DH to get his December bonus before we did the majority of Christmas shopping. We used to get loads on Christmas Eve back when Wilkinson's did a big half price sale then.

Why?
MindfulBear · 21/12/2021 09:26

@PlinkPlankPlunk

But btw OP M and S are still doing next day delivery, so if it saves you a trip, you could spank a fiver and get the presents delivered tomorrow
Nope. WRONG!!! They are advertising next day but that is actually now 29th December!!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 21/12/2021 09:27

I always think that if you wait this late to buy Christmas presents for someone then they are quite far down on your priority list.

We're not a wealthy household by any stretch of the imagination and I have my DSs & DBs birthday the week before Christmas so it's a financially difficult time of year for us. I spread the costs out by buying things or planning earlier in the year.

I'd be quite upset if I were your DH.

MindfulBear · 21/12/2021 09:28

@UsernameInTheTown

And this is why I do my Christmas shopping in January (that and sales).
Yes that's usually me but I had eye surgeries last year so didn't happen. & yes put it off thinking I'd get something more glamorous than slippers. However. He doesn't want any else.

You realise Christmas is this Saturday?

MindfulBear · 21/12/2021 09:32

@Camembear

Next day delivery?
That's the point. They are advertising next day. But at checkout next day is 29th / 30th and click n collect is January!

I live within the m25. Not in the wilds of no where!
