John Lewis Christmas Ad

Out today. It’s already on the my John Lewis App. I quite liked it. Nice and gentle.

It’s on during the adverts for Pride of Britain at 8.15.

It's kind of dreary, too much set in the grey misty woods. The alien isn't great either, should have gone full ET on it, a cute creature and more colour lights and magic. I like the music though. Concept was ok but the execution was poor.

It's ok, but not entirely sure how it relates to Christmas or JL.

I liked the alien girl, but that was it. They could have gone down a completely different route..she could have made friends with a human girl, why did it have to be a boy and have sexual undertones? He barely looked 11yo.

It is a sweet thing to watch but just a newer version of ET surely?

Anyone else fed up with adverts trying to ram a moral message down our throats.
Just show us some of the stuff you want to flog.

They gave the penguins to schools- I wonder If they are doing the same with the ships

I’m a few years time we will be here criticising the latest JL as and reminiscing about how wonderful this one was.

MNers - we do like a moan. I include myself in that. I have it on good authority that media agencies and owners shudder, shut their eyes and cross their fingers when Mumsnet is mentioned.

I liked it! I thought it was sweet and I enjoyed the ET / Boy from Space / Stranger Things vibes.

What was the first one they did again? They never really bested that (ironic I can’t remember - but it was the whole ‘wow’ factor of the epic, emotional ad). Was it the snowman?

Who has the animals on the trampoline?

I liked the idea behind it, the first love as a young teenager. However I didn't like it as a Christmas advert.
So far the M+S advert wins for me.

Was it just me that thought the female alien was an adult and the boy a child, yet they seemed attracted to one another?

I thought both teenagers, her older than him. He had a crush on her and she was an alien and didn’t have those kind of human feelings but gave him a peck on the cheek because she’d learned from the film they watched that was how humans showed affection.

14 year old girls look more like young women, however, 14 year old boys do not look anything like men. She is clearly young and not an adult though so I assumed they were a similar age.

I used to work for JL and they were such a horrendously bad company to work for that now everything they do is tainted!

Love the M&S one though!

I liked it. Bought back happy memories of my children's nativity 'aliens at Christmas' by Out of the Ark.

I liked it! I saw it last night and my first thought was The Boy from Space!

I didn't think the alien looks like an adult (although the boy looks a bit younger than 14). And actually, I didn't realise it was the alien was supposed to be a girl when I first saw it.

Wasn't it Giorgio Moroder and Phil Oakey rather than Human League?

Ha mochubudh you'll be like me, I feel just like The Nan when watching TV or listening to the news, permanent swearing mode. I should listen to some soothing music.
