John Lewis Christmas Ad

Out today. It’s already on the my John Lewis App. I quite liked it. Nice and gentle.

It’s on during the adverts for Pride of Britain at 8.15.

I really liked it, but my all time favourite is Edgar the Excitable Dragon, followed by Snowman.

Didn’t hit the mark for me at all, as others have said, gave me ET vibes.

The music is so dreary , why do they have to have a message can’t they just be a happy ad

If you’re old enough to remember watching a 1980s kids programme called The Boy From Space, this advert will have totally freaked you out. I still haven’t got over the trauma of watching that!

That songs always made me cry (played at my infant leavers assembly and I still remember it). So that version hasn’t helped.

I thought it was ok - it's strange though that the leading character in JL Xmas ads are almost always boys, even the animated characters. The girls must be busy peeling sprouts

I wasn't a fan. Definitely not their best in my opinion. I just rewatched the penguin one and now I'm balling . I love that snowman one where he gets his friend a scarf and hat, think it's 2012 one.

I much prefer the Electric Dreams cover used in the Strongbow ad - so much more joyful.

I quite liked the advert, could probably find fault if I really tried, but tbh I can't be arsed.

I usually hate these and find them dull, cringy, stupid or plain creepy but I didn't hate this one - still no tears or overreactions like that though.

It kind of made me smile but that might just be that I'm in a super Christmas mood and all these 'first' Christmas things that have appeared the last day or two are making me relaxed and happy lol.

You still can't beat Mog's Christmas Calamity from Sainsbury's

It was rubbish.

Not impressed. It was a bit boring.

Just watched it again and it's growing on me. The boy is very sweet and I quite like the ET theme and how it relates to celebrating difference and welcoming a stranger. Would have liked a few more shots of the family being Christmassy together though.

Not Christmassy, all a bit pointless and I didn't cry like usual. 3/10

Was it just me that thought the female alien was an adult and the boy a child, yet they seemed attracted to one another?

I liked it.
I thought the little lad was lovely and expressive and his sister was sweet.
It made me think of WALL-E and I liked the visual of embracing differences. Not sure the kiss was necessary, maybe giving a gift to each other would have been more suitable.
I liked the slight eerie feel to it.

I didn't think about the going to the woods etc as being inappropriate as I think of so many children's books and films where this happens. It told a story and was festive. Very sweet.

I didn’t get the adult vibe. But I did get the weird attraction when the aliens clearly older and the boys too young for all that!

I liked it and it did make me take a little gulp at the end.

Just watched the M&S one and genuinely thought it was going to end with him discovering the pigs in blankets. An opportunity missed.

The snowman one they did a few years ago was the best . This one is ok but trying to tick too many boxes....

I’m not keen on the John Lewis one!

Much prefer the Boots and M&S food ads!
