Thread 2 - the one with the return of the buns

@jumpingintosummer thanks for the inspiration for the thread title, I’m now singing ‘return of the buns’ to the tune of ‘return of the Mac’

Thought I’d do a ‘how to’ for a couple of things people often post about not being sure of

To do click links you do this put link in here then a space then the name or phrase you want to go with the link . Don’t put a space between the start of the link or the last word next to the like I have or it won’t work but I had to to demonstrate.

If you’re posting anything specifically for me please do @ me or I may not spot it. It’s helpful if when sharing bargain info you bold it to make it easy for people to differentiate between chat and bargain links.

To follow the thread without using up a post to mark place you can click on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first post.

No affiliate links please.

Referral thread here to use for if you’re posting your personal referral link to others.

Second message has a few links and info which I’ll slowly build up, let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to add to it Thanks

@Willow4987 Ours are from Santa Sacks. Didn't pay more than £10 each though - first one via groupon and second one they just had an offer on the website.

Willow4987 · 18/08/2021 19:36

Thanks @SpamIAm I’ll take a look at those

pinknail · 18/08/2021 19:41

@Thegirlhasnoname I usually message the parent to ask what the child is into/ wants and offer money to put towards something bigger.
Last few this year have been a mix of money and toys.
When it was my child's party and I got messages asking, I told some colouring type presents, some Peppa pig, some Minnie Mouse etc and ended up with a great mix.

Clarabella72 · 18/08/2021 19:43

@ Beakerandbungle would a subuteo set work as an alternative for football I’ve also seen playmobil footballers etc in a shop local to us (Bricks and Bits)

NoWordForFluffy · 18/08/2021 19:45

Our sacks are from The Handmade Christmas Co. I'm sure they do a half price sale sometime soon though.

JanuaryEl5ieBill · 18/08/2021 19:56

@MagpieMaggie I was going to recommend the same selection pack from Whittards. Have bought it several times as a gift and had most of them full sized for myself - love their hot chocolate.

Sorry to double post but @thegirlhasnoname I got a stash of Orchard toys puzzles when they were on offer so I use them and then added a sketch pad and those nice little colouring pencils for DD's little nursery friend.

Thoroughly enjoyed these threads over the past few years and have ended up with such good deals so will follow with interest.

The only thing my 3 year old daughter tells me she wants currently is a red dragon apparently, so if anyone sees anything dragon related I'd be very grateful.

SpamIAm · 18/08/2021 20:08

@Wtfdidwedo you just need to come to Wales and have a spree in one of the tourist gift shops 😁

@Wtfdidwedo I got this with a copy of room on the broom for my nephew last Halloween instead of sweets. Lovely quality.

@Thisisbatshit that lego set is a good price but if you need more than 1, the same set is in the 2 for £15 argos deal.

Haudyourwheesht · 18/08/2021 20:22

I was going to suggest the Room on the Broom dragon. There's a red one in Zog too, that I've seen a soft toy version of. John Lewis I think.

RagamuffinCat · 18/08/2021 20:30

Jellycat also have several red dragons, just type dragon into their search bar.

NotPennysBoat · 18/08/2021 20:35

@Thegirlhasnoname I always go with books, no matter what age. Can't bear plastic tat, and books are something that can be treasured for many years (& don't take up lots of space!).

Willow4987 · 18/08/2021 20:41

@NoWordForFluffy my fave one that I’ve found recently is from there actually!!! Keeping fingers crossed they do a sale soon!

peasando · 18/08/2021 20:59

My Dino T-shirt's arrived a couple of days ago (I'd forgotten about them as well!) Fantastic quality. Didn't keep them for Christmas as was worried DC would grow out of them so gave them to them yesterday - huge hit, they loved them, wore them immediately and wanted to wear them again today (not possible as they are filthy feral children and everything needs to be washed as soon as they've looked at it!)

Wtfdidwedo · 18/08/2021 21:17

@SpamIAm I'm actually Welsh Grin I might go to Castell Coch at the weekend actually, they had nice stuff in the gift shop before, thank you!

@Jumpingintosummer love that thank you!

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions as usual.

NoWordForFluffy · 18/08/2021 21:20

We got some lovely Ty dragons from Caernarfon Castle last year!

@Willow4987, I love our sacks. They definitely do sales at some point. If you sign up for the mailing list they should hopefully inform you when!

hiredandsqueak · 18/08/2021 21:34

@Thegirlhasnoname The Duplo unicorn train on Amazon and just £4 is a lovely gift. I gave it to dgs and he loves it. Can't link as it shows my details but it's this one groceries.asda.com/product/construction-building-toys/lego-duplo-my-first-unicorn-train-toy-10953/1000260648367

Thegirlhasnoname · 18/08/2021 21:39

Thanks for the ideas, will ask X’s parents when we RSVP what she is into

@hiredandsqueak I actually already have one of those that I got at a bargain price of £1.70 in the Sainsbury’s clearance aisle a few weeks back that was put away as a stocking filler. Good to know it could be a good gift for the birthday girl too 😁

PaddingtonPaddington · 18/08/2021 21:44

@Thegirlhasnoname

Dear wise people on my phone, help is needed please!

DD (soon to be 3) has come home from nursery with her first birthday party invite. X is going to be 3 and also seems to be DD’s best nursery friend (always says she was playing with X etc when asking her what she got up to). Question is, as I haven’t been to a child’s party since I myself was a child, what kind of things does one get for a 3 year old girls birthday present?! Especially when I haven’t got the foggiest what kind of things she likes

Bonus points if it is a bargain 😁

@Thegirlhasnoname what about playdoh? Amazon have bargainous sandwich toaster play set for £5 or cash register for £7. I have bought 2 of these each as Christmas presents from previous recommendations on the prequel thread
fantastaballs · 18/08/2021 21:54

Signing in. I won't be doing much bargain hunting this week as I'm on holiday but will deffo catch up when I'm home.

I'm very curious about the velvetiser. Is it REALLY worth £65? How is it different to using a kettle and a whisk? My daughter drinks hot chocolate ash the time and would love one. But it's a lot of money!
