actually, how long are we talking? and are you ok to "adapt" something add a bit if it needs to be a tad longer?

Probably about 1.6m, potentially. I'm a few hundred miles from the table, so it's a guess!

I can repeat pattern, I'd have thought, depending on what the pattern is. I'm sure I can work something out!

I've one of Mary Hickmott (New Stitches) which is more of a traditional "Robin on a holly twig" design which repeats - so can be as long/short as necessary.
How about "Merry Christmas" spelled out in snowflakes, Ice skaters, baubles or robins if you stitch it twice (once each long side)?
I've some slightly comic reindeer that would suit a table runner (but are supposed to be a cushion) - it might take some maths for that one!
There's a robin "cake band" one with a neutral coloured background that is lovely which you could do - it would look better on a linen evenweave - and if it needs to be deeper there's a holly "line" underneath. This is probably the one I would do.

I reckon either the Merry Christmas one or the robins. It's robin ones I like online, mind you.

Though I do have a soft spot for this one!

Why not get it, then if it's not long enough, do some "bodging" and extend it.

@TheWoollybacksWife I think that's partly why I'm here, to get some ideas! DH and I had so many traditions and some of those I'll continue with DD but I'd also like to start some new ones just the two of us. I'm also a lot poorer than I was before so I'm hoping to get some money saving tips and also some inspiration for home made gifts. I'm actually about to go and do a practice run of some chocolate truffles! Thinking Kirsch with amaretto biscuit crunch, chilli vodka, Cointreau and popping candy chocolate orange and Bailey's and honeycomb crumb.

DH and I are off for five days from tomorrow so we are going to do a lot of sorting/tidying and prepping for decorating the lounge (painting it, not Christmas Decs...too early even for the countdowners)

I may even decide which Christmas Cake to make.

I take it you have discovered the bargain threads (also in the Christmas section)? Definitely the place to look for money saving tips.

My children are older - the youngest is mid teens so our traditions now mainly revolve around food and drink although my DDs do enjoy a drive around looking at the lights.

Shimmer my tree is red, gold and ivory. I can't find a recent photo - this was a few years ago and we've moved house since.

Wooly there's a house near us where style and taste basically goes to die .
DD and I made a detour back from the supermarket last year simply to gaze at its splendour .
DD was "Oh I can see the lights..."
"No its not on that side of the road its just round this corner on my side..........Holy Shit that is.....a massive electricity bill in waiting"
