Ooh, there's an AIBU thread about buying early for Christmas which only has about 2 naysayers on it...MN must've gone soft! 🤣🤣

I saw that! must be the weather - making everyone feeling a bit out of whack. Xmas Grin

My trip to Tesco was not productive. Their tills were down, the conveyor belts weren't working, and The Range and Dunelm closed. Think the storms must have blown some of the electricity locally.

I too was confused as to why the first page of replies weren't 'ffs it's only August Hmm'

We must have entered an alternate universe! Xmas Grin

I'm starting thinking about those cookery programmes that they wheel out every year . I watch every year .. I cook the same things every year ..Xmas Grin
Christmas is not the time for NewFangled and you cannot beat a crispy roast potato or five (though we also have new potatoes after I cooked both and DD liked them)

Fanny Craddock injecting under the baggy skin of a turkey with a sausagemeat filled piping bag

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 22/08/2021 19:48

I like the cookery programmes I have seen loads of times as well 70. Nigella and her various complicated recipes, Delia and the turkey cooking I must have seen every year for the last 10 years even though I always make the same well tested and liked things.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 22/08/2021 20:55

Fanny always puts me off cooking tbh...she's far to shouty and I feel like I'm back in home economics lessons and being told off again 🤦🏻‍♀️

NerosFiddle · 22/08/2021 21:04

Is Fanny still on iPlayer? I remember watching it during night feeds when I had dd. Not good with stitches.

I do love the food network around Christmas. They have "chefs" that I've never heard of or famous people that have never even boiled a kettle. Like Denise Van Outen had a show one year.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/08/2021 21:12

Is Fanny still on iPlayer? 😱😱😱😱

Do they have this sort of filth on iPlayer?! 🙈🤣

My home ec teacher used to go out with my eldest brother. That wasn't awkward at all 😂

Love Mary B, the Hairies and Delia's cooking programmes at Christmas

NerosFiddle · 22/08/2021 21:21

I've just checked she's still on iPlayer.

NerosFiddle · 22/08/2021 21:22

Oh woolly that would be awkward

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/08/2021 21:49
Xmas Grin

Fanny Craddock and her mincemeat filled souggle omlette Xmas Envy stills makes me queasy .
Her choux pastry "you can keep it in an airtight tin for x weeks" as dry as a bone then slathered in pink icing Barbara Cartland would;ve winced at .

Anthony Worrel Thompson trying to "charm" a female guest , she loooked really uncomfortable

When Jamie Oliver has his friend (Italian chap ) on he's in the garden or the shed . Maybe Jools has said "Do what you want Jamie but I'm not having that bloke in my house "

Not just men though, I watched one TV cook whittering in about her "Sticky Balls" and rolling out long columns of icing while trying to leer at the camera . Nigella she wasn;t .
Just cook missie and stop trying to lick the camera lens .

You don't get that nonsense with Nigel Slater

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/08/2021 21:50

souffle omlette

Morning!

Another early wake up when I'm still exhausted. It's not good! 😩😩😩 Why does my body do it to me?

Not sure what today's plan is...we were going to do a walk, but the kids want to spend their money in the gift shop in Aviemore instead! 🤣 We might go to the beach at Loch Morlich afterwards as we stumbled upon it yesterday and it's stunning!

I've just got back from the gym. Dh is going to drop some tools off then drop his van at the garage and ds is going with him. We're going to go to town once they're home for a spot of shopping. Dd is desperate for bubble tea and she needs new trainers. I'm also opening her up a proper bank account with a debit card. Going to go to Nando's for lunch as we have a voucher.

Shimmerandsparkles · 23/08/2021 10:02

Morning lovely people. First post for the on the thread. I spoke to my husband last night about our Christmas budget and we agreed on amounts for family, food and decs/entertainment. Just need to sort out the budget for each other. DH doesn't get Christmas gifts from anyone apart from his mum on his side of the family, so I do like to make sure he has a decent amount to open. We don't buy luxuries throughout the year. Anyway, I thought he would be all 'it's August!' But later I caught him whistling jingle bells Grin

lachy · 23/08/2021 11:08

I just wanted to let you know that I have wrapped 3 Christmas presents this morning 🎁.

lachy · 23/08/2021 11:08

@Shimmerandsparkles welcome to the thread!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2021 11:51

Get you, lachy! 🎁

Well done on indoctrinating converting your DH, @Shimmerandsparkles!

Welcome to the thread shimmer
Love that you have your DH on side already. 18 years in and all I've managed is to get DH to discuss a Christmas budget in October (used to be end of November) and to just accept that my planning starts now Xmas Grin

What is bubble tea Wreck?

I was thinking about Christmas food programmes and I'm still loyal to JO (sorry).
I tried Nigella and Delia but didn't like either of them at all.

Are you at the reindeer park today Fluffy?

It's my first day back in work after 3 weeks off today and it's been exhausting. 32 minutes to go and counting! ⏰

Shimmerandsparkles · 23/08/2021 15:49

Thank you for the welcome! I've put together the spreadsheet and will try and get solid answers this evening. It's funny, I hate using spreadsheets at work, but have loads of home ones!

Hope the last few mins at work aren't too bad Crazy. I've got some time off coming up, hopefully the weather perks up a bit by then.

pussycatlickinglollyices · 23/08/2021 16:12

Crazy I wanted to know about the bubble tea too Blush I guess it's not tea with a straw that you blow bubbles through...🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

WreckTangled · 23/08/2021 17:32

Bubble tea is originally from Taiwan and is a sweet liquid (choose your flavour) with flavoured bubbles in it made from tapioca. I can confirm that both dc and dh thought it was gross Grin

NoWordForFluffy · 23/08/2021 18:13

To be fair, it sounds bloody grim! 🤣🤣

Crazy, reindeer were yesterday. We've been to the beach at Loch Morlich today.
