I've taken the tree down. Anyone else?

I'm so pleased to have taken it down, I don't like Christmas anyway but will be having dgs 18 months again from Wednesday and him taking the baubles off has driven me mad tbh. Dd took hers down yesterday for the same reason. The house feels bigger and tidier and cleaner without it as well so a real bonus.

@Lipz

God no it's only up over a week. We take it down on the 12th night. Still Christmas here, watching Christmas movies, eating crap and enjoying all the decorations. There is still a heap of presents under it to go out to people. Love Christmas and like to keep it going for as long as possible, miserable weather out there and it's lovely to have all the lights twinkling rather than that grey, dull look the house gets when it's down.
That's the spirit ! , it's hardly that hard taking it all down , i love looking at the tree /lights etc . I like the clean fresh feeling when i pack it away - next weekend , but miss it for a while . I will leave some wintry / sparkle up during the darkest part of winter . I can't get my head around taking it all down within a day or so of the 25th.

Ours is down and all packed away in the loft - pleased to have my house back! Have left the lights up outside for now but itching to put them away too now.

blamethecat · 28/12/2020 16:17

I usually last until new years day, but this tree is a right droppy bugger and I'm desperate to get rid, but the vacuum died yesterday, hoping a new filter will revive it, but until I have a working vacuum it's staying there, slowly shedding it's spiky shit.

Heyahun · 28/12/2020 16:19

Gawd no Its Christmas for me until the 7th of jan!! Am here eating a box of celebrations and watching home alone - all decorations still up 😂🎄

lollipoprainbow · 28/12/2020 16:20

No ! Our gorgeous real tree is still twinkling away looking lovely. It will come down on 5th January as I have a day off, always sad to see it go tbh.

earthyfire · 28/12/2020 16:21

No. I don't understand this competition to be the first to put up the tree and the first to take it down!

fastandthecurious · 28/12/2020 16:25

I'll take mine down tomorrow after work probably. It's doing my head in now, depends if DH will go in the loft before his shift starts (I'm too short to climb in there with the ladder we have)

Friendsoneuptown · 28/12/2020 16:26

Yes, took mine down yesterday. Outside lights and wreath still up. Kitchen lights still up but we use those all year but tree and lounge decs are down. For me and my family Christmas is over on 27/12.

Friendsoneuptown · 28/12/2020 16:27

@earthyfire

No. I don't understand this competition to be the first to put up the tree and the first to take it down!
Is it a competition? I don’t see it as that. Just doing what you do. Each to their own and all that.
fastandthecurious · 28/12/2020 16:28

I do normally take it down New Year's Day. But I'm working this year and I honestly just can't be arsed faffing about about after a 12 hour shift getting the tree and decs down.

Eggsley · 28/12/2020 16:29

Ours went up mid-November this year (it's usually 1st Dec or thereabouts) and I've not decided yet whether it will come down this weekend coming or the weekend after. I start a new job on 4th Jan so it would be nice to have the house in order before then but equally lovely to come home in the dark in the first week of Jan and sit with the tree lights on in the evenings. Don't usually take it down before 6th Jan.

Pieceofpurplesky · 28/12/2020 16:29

I have a friend who puts hers up at the end of November and it is down by the time the kids get up Boxing Day. She finds me really odd as mine goes up the weekend before Christmas and down twelfth night ... we are all different and I am currently on the sofa, dog on feet, fire lit abs lights twinkling. It's after the rush of Christmas I have time to enjoy it

PhantomErik · 28/12/2020 16:51

Nope I'm still enjoying all the decorations. They went up just before 1st December & will stay until 31st December. That's our tradition & makes us happy.

I love the build up & love the festive relaxing with twinkly lights but knowing all the hard work is done. However I prefer starting the new year clear & tidy.

Right now there are a few piles of gifts like craft sets, lego sets & games that can be played with in the lounge whenever anyone wants but by 31st dec all of it goes upstairs into bedrooms.

I am looking forward to the recycling being collected though!

jillypill · 28/12/2020 16:54

Our trees aren't collected by the council until the 4th anyway.

JessicaPeach · 28/12/2020 16:54

We took ours down yesterday, normally I wouldn't dream of it until after new year but I'm havinf a section on the 6th and being admitted on the 3rd. I'm having two very large babies and consultant said I could go in to labour anytime so it was a relief for me when the last present was opened. All away now to make space for the imminent arrival of the babies!!

bengalcat · 28/12/2020 16:55

mine will come down on the 12th night as always but I did only put it up on the 20th

Gufo · 28/12/2020 16:58

The tree will be up until January, but took most other decs down today. House us on the market so I wanted to reduce the amount of clutter on view! I'm also a weirdo who hates christmas cards, and always want them down the day I receive them asap.

Butterbeeeen · 28/12/2020 17:02

Mine came down yesterday as it started to smell of vomit and feet (real tree) couldnt stand the smell any longer. Rest of decs still up

Hairwizard · 28/12/2020 17:04

Took all down but the tree in the living room. That one will stay up til 6th jan. Other 2 plus any decs away and hoovered and mopped and dusted everywhere. Feels much better. Plus one twin has eczema and has had dry and red looking eyes from after i brought everything down and was getting worse last couple days. Needed all the glitter and crap cleaned up.

Oly4 · 28/12/2020 17:05

Ours go up Dec 1 and come down on the 27th. Feels right to me

DinosaurOfFire · 28/12/2020 17:06

Ours went up the end of November (about 2 weeks earlier than usual) and will come down mid January, I love having the decorations up, it makes the house look cosy amd warm and festive.

dementedma · 28/12/2020 17:07

This is the only year I feel like leaving it up as long as possible. It adds sparkle and warmth to a fucking dreary world right now

crossstitchingnana · 28/12/2020 17:12

Decs are for Christmas and New Years, surely? Doesn't it feel all bare and sad without them??

Livpool · 28/12/2020 17:14

Around the 12th - seems rather miserable to take it down early - especially on Boxing Day!

Each to their own though

Angel2702 · 28/12/2020 17:16

Mine always come down 27th so we can do a full clean ready for New Year.
