I've taken the tree down. Anyone else?

I'm so pleased to have taken it down, I don't like Christmas anyway but will be having dgs 18 months again from Wednesday and him taking the baubles off has driven me mad tbh. Dd took hers down yesterday for the same reason. The house feels bigger and tidier and cleaner without it as well so a real bonus.

Not yet absolutely desperate too but we put ours up the 28th of November the day after my sons dads anniversary of his death and we will take them down the 6th of January the day before the anniversary of his funeral. A request from my son. I hadn't the heart to say no him

Eminybob · 28/12/2020 17:20

Ours came down today. Even 6 yo ds said he was happy to have some more space.
I usually keep it up longer but the clutter was doing me head in. Such a feeling of relief and cleansing to chuck it out the back door (local hospice will be taking it away for a donation in early January)

I honestly wonder why some people bother with a tree at all - there seems to be almost a competition to be the first one to get it down.

Ours goes up max ten days before Christmas (was about a week this time) and stays up till just into the New Year. Most people in this area seem to do much the same - if you walk past houses in the early evening, you still see loads of trees in Windows.

No never until the 6th January.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/12/2020 17:22

Yep just done it, takes bloody hours to take everything down, pack it, get it back up in the loft.

House looks spacious and clean again!

EveningOverRooftops · 28/12/2020 17:23

Didn’t bother with a tree this year. Just other decs. Might do the same next year and not bother with a tree. It seems to work.

daisypond · 28/12/2020 17:24

No. Of course not. Christmas ends on 6th January. This is the best part of Christmas. Lights on tree twinkling, it’s more relaxed. It’s really depressing and grey when the tree goes.

livingthegoodlife · 28/12/2020 17:26

No way! I'm thinking 3rd January just before the kids go back to school. I'm in a happy cosy twinkly lights cocoon and we are still enjoying leftovers and nibbles. Definitely not ready for real life yet!

Same, someone on my FB put theirs up in November then posted about "reclaiming their house" on 21st December and took them all down!

I would if I wasn’t beached on the sofa

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/12/2020 17:36

as it started to smell my real tree a couple of years ago was like this Butter ,, but only I could smell it ! More like bleach ( thankfully Xmas Grin ) but I don't know if it was my sinuses . It was ok the following day though . Put me off a real tree after that .

I will enjoy my decorations on NYE, then once we all haul outselves upright and have breakfast on NYD we'll pack everything away and I put the LED candles out ( huge ones in glass vases) for lights .

NoWordForFluffy · 28/12/2020 17:45

Not yet. It's a bit early for me (though it doesn't stay up until Epiphany as I prefer it to be taken down before I'm back at work in the new year).

Ours went up at the end of November.

JorisBonson · 28/12/2020 17:51

Yep. I get major post Christmas blues so it's like ripping off a plaster. Won't need to come downstairs tomorrow and be reminded that I should do something productive instead of eating cheese and mainlining clotted cream.

Figmentofimagination · 28/12/2020 17:51

I always put my decorations and trees up the end of Nov/beginning of Dec and take them down on NYD/2nd Jan. I like them up on NYE but I like to start the new year with a nice clean uncluttered house.
This year is a bit different as I have a house viewing on 2nd Jan. Today I have put the extra house decorations away, but the trees and and outside lights will stay up till 3rd Jan. That way it makes things less cluttered and easier to clean for the house viewing but still festive.

jillypill · 28/12/2020 17:58

If you put it up in Nov but are sick of it by 26/12 why not put it up later?

Freyaismyname · 28/12/2020 17:58

It's still Christmas!! Hmm

pilates · 28/12/2020 18:00

Mine will be down in the next couple of days

Pipandmum · 28/12/2020 18:02

Wow. I don't know ow a single person in my life that has taken it down. I used to feel sorry for a friend in school who's parents took it down on Boxing Day. I thought they were cheated.
I'm pretty sick of it my New Years so I take it down then, but as a kid I wanted it up as lo g as possible.

callistography · 28/12/2020 19:49

I personally think that if you do the whole Christmas thing, have a tree, decorate etc then you should actually do the proper whole Christmas thing where the tree comes down at/around twelfth night. Otherwise it's a kind of a half-arsed effort (I'm not at all religious btw)

Nooproblemoo · 28/12/2020 20:12

Nope, will probably take them down on 2nd/3rd and that'll be earlier than normal. It's still Christmas, I get irrationally annoyed hearing about decorations coming down as early as Boxing Day.

Flowerpot345 · 28/12/2020 20:17

Mine came down to day, as did the rest of the outside lights and ornaments.
Feels clearer, I never keep them up long last Xmas.

SantasBritchesSpelleas · 28/12/2020 20:21

No, it went up on 19th December - so will be up until at least next weekend.

Limemoon · 28/12/2020 20:21

Snap OP! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Ours is fake and 6 years old. The children helped. I'm not religious, since Christmas is over, I have to get back to work soon and have time today, why not?

AlwaysLatte · 28/12/2020 20:23

No, we'll celebrate through to New Year and take it down on the 2nd!

AlwaysLatte · 28/12/2020 20:26

Also, if you keep watering your tree and don't have the room too hot it shouldn't be dropping. Ours has been up since about 14th and it's still going strong.
