I've taken the tree down. Anyone else?

I'm so pleased to have taken it down, I don't like Christmas anyway but will be having dgs 18 months again from Wednesday and him taking the baubles off has driven me mad tbh. Dd took hers down yesterday for the same reason. The house feels bigger and tidier and cleaner without it as well so a real bonus.

Mine didn't go up until mid-December and I feel quite sad at the thought of taking all the lights down and packing them away. Trying to think of a way to keep some of the twinkly stuff up until it starts getting a bit lighter in the evenings (without looking like I just haven't put the Christmas decs away).

SnapeSnapeSeverusSnape · 28/12/2020 15:14

We normally wait until the 6th, but this years tree has really drooped and is dropping terribly, not sure why, but might have to come down sooner rather later else they'll be no tree left to take down!

Lipz · 28/12/2020 15:15

God no it's only up over a week. We take it down on the 12th night. Still Christmas here, watching Christmas movies, eating crap and enjoying all the decorations. There is still a heap of presents under it to go out to people. Love Christmas and like to keep it going for as long as possible, miserable weather out there and it's lovely to have all the lights twinkling rather than that grey, dull look the house gets when it's down.

Mummae21 · 28/12/2020 15:17

I took mine down yesterday and was so happy to do so. Love putting it up and having it up etc but also love taking it down too😂

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 28/12/2020 15:18

I'm just about to. I haven't loved our tree this year, it's far too small for the ceiling height, and the decorations don't match the new wallpaper, so it's just pissing me off!

ShrikeAttack · 28/12/2020 15:19

No way! I'm considering leaving it all up until Candlemas...

merryhollybright · 28/12/2020 15:21

We've left the tree up but taking the decorations around the house down. Its great, the house feels clean and fresh for the new year but the free is keeping the living room cosy.

Burnthurst187 · 28/12/2020 15:21

We took our's down yesterday. After Boxing Day Christmas is over as far as I'm concerned

EggnogAndAMincepie · 28/12/2020 15:21

I or should I say DCat took the bedroom one down sometime between Boxing Day and yesterday morning 😼 my ex husband text me to say he'd been in and fed him and the tree was on the floor. Didn't think to pick it up though before he went. Leaving the living room one up until after new year now. Will enjoy the glow of the lights for a while longer

hiredandsqueak · 28/12/2020 15:22

@hopeishere Mine went up on December 18th so ten days felt like more than enough.

No! Unless your tree is a real one and all the needles have dropped, why on Earth would you take it down early? It's not even New Year yet, let alone 12th night (which is when we make sure ours is down by).

I love having all the lights off in the room and just the tree lights on. It's pretty and magical. Why take that joy away, especially if you have children?

I find this thread very sad

Allispretty · 28/12/2020 15:23

Me! Came down today I have a 17 week old kitten so it's drove me insane having it up this year and him trashing it. I normally leave up until 4th jan but it's been up since mid November this year

BlackCatShadow · 28/12/2020 15:23

Yup, ours is down. It has been replaced by my laundry rack. 😆

Doje · 28/12/2020 15:23

Ours came down today too. I love it going up, but I love it more when it comes down!

Twobrews · 28/12/2020 15:23

I need to know if this is inversely proportional to when you put them up?!
Yes this is vital information!

Ours went up on the 12th December and won't go down until the children are back at school.

NeverHadANickname · 28/12/2020 15:24

Mine is always down by new year. I like to start the new year with a clean, tidy house and the house feels so much bigger and in better order when everything comes down.

Chocolatecake29 · 28/12/2020 15:24

Ours is down. Autistic son was obsessed bwith the baubles then naturally 1 year old also following suit. We've had a massive sort through if the toys so the tree was taken down to make space for the new stuff as well. All done is one go 🙂

FenEel · 28/12/2020 15:25

Nope. Went up on 18 Dec, will come down on 12th night. I know each to her own and all that, but one of the reasons I hate Christmas starting so early, “ooh let’s see your tree!” on Dec 1, is that these are the same people harshing my Christmas vibe on 28 Dec by declaring Christmas over. Not over til Epiphany here.

Effsee · 28/12/2020 15:27

Took my down today. Needed space to put my almost 11 month daughters toys. Needed to put the cat tree/climbing frame back so my cats had a safe place from my daughter 🤣
She's been relentless at crawling after them while the tree has been up. They finally have somewhere chill where she can't reach haha.
Did feel a bit sad at taking it down though as it made the room look beautiful and cosy. Ah, until next year....

Madbengalmum · 28/12/2020 15:27

Yesterday it came down, feels uncluttered and clean now!

safariboot · 28/12/2020 15:31

I only put ours up on the 24th! So no.

It's bloody miniscule anyway, that's what I get for leaving it late to buy but I thought we already had one. So it's not like it's hogging space, it sits on the table.

purplecorkheart · 28/12/2020 15:34

Not yet but mine is a foot tall and I am too lazy to crawl behind the tv to unplug it. The recycling bin is due to go out in a few hours so the Christmas cards are on their last few minutes.

SonjaMorgan · 28/12/2020 15:39

I only got one 2 weeks ago. It will stay up until after New year's Day.

Drivingho · 28/12/2020 15:40

It’s weird how people are so willing to start Christmas so early but not enjoy it during the actual festival.

FuzzyPenguin · 28/12/2020 15:41

I am itching to take my down, looking at it makes me sad that Christmas Day is over and I am starting to feel claustrophobic with it all, but it will stay up until the 5th, I am packing little bits away as I go. I do put mine up early December but this comes from when I worked in retail and I enjoy the build up.
