I've taken the tree down. Anyone else?

I'm so pleased to have taken it down, I don't like Christmas anyway but will be having dgs 18 months again from Wednesday and him taking the baubles off has driven me mad tbh. Dd took hers down yesterday for the same reason. The house feels bigger and tidier and cleaner without it as well so a real bonus.

I’m feeling totally out of synch. Ours went up about 10 days ago and will stay up till 12th night

Everyone else put them up on 1sr dec and are now “right, that’s it Xmas is over” I’m only just getting started ☹️

GreekOddess · 28/12/2020 15:50

Has to stay up until at least new year!

I'm sat in my pjs eating quality street and looking at the tree. It wouldn't feel like Christmas without the tree.

BlackCatShadow · 28/12/2020 15:52

I think festivals have always evolved and changed with the times. It is very unlikely that Jesus was actually born on 25th December. These days, for many people, Christmas celebrations finish on Christmas Day. I don't think it's a big deal to take down decorations soon after Christmas Day.

AwFeebs · 28/12/2020 15:53

Ours came down yesterday.

Really not arsed about Christmas this year but have little DC so had to make an effort. Grin

Same! Mainly because I like minimalist decor and the house feels much fresher without all the clutter

PerhapsOverlyWorried · 28/12/2020 15:55

I took mine down Boxing Day, so blooming relieved to finally get that eye sore of a mess making machine blasted thing out the living room

Vitaminsss · 28/12/2020 15:56

I’m currently working from home in a small house though. I don’t have the luxury of lounging around eating chocolate as I have all my normal tasks to sort and the lack of decorations (essentially clutter/messy environment) helps me focus!

MrsRogerLima · 28/12/2020 15:57

It's coming down later today. Been up since beginning of December. Its DH birthday on the 2/1 so always take down before then anyway.

LizzieAnt · 28/12/2020 15:57

Has to stay up until after the 6th in our house.

DamnShesaSexyChick · 28/12/2020 15:58

Of course I haven’t, it’s still Christmas.

ChasingRainbows19 · 28/12/2020 15:59

New Year’s Day here. We didn’t put up till 6th December. Stil enjoying the lights and glow. But no kids to keep wrecking it.

Always looks bare when we take everything down.

CoronaIsWatching · 28/12/2020 16:01

So common putting it up in November then down on Boxing Day

felineflutter · 28/12/2020 16:03

No! It will come down in the new year. I hradually put all my decorations up throughout December starting on the 1st.

It would feel joyless to have no decorations up on New Year's Eve.

thriftyhen · 28/12/2020 16:04

No! Goes up on Christmas Eve and down on Twelfth Night. Very traditional here.

loveliesbleeding1 · 28/12/2020 16:07

I’ll probably put the decs away on 1 January but I shall miss them,it takes a couple ofdays to get them all how I like them and decorate the tree. They only went up on 12 December though,so I’m still really enjoying them.

Likewise, inflating the importance of your own opinion is a clear giveaway of a “commoner”. No one cares if you think they’re common my dear.
jillypill · 28/12/2020 16:09

I don't get this. Mine will go down in Jan & only went up 2 weeks before Christmas.

How big & messy are the trees that people have that are taking up all the space in their house.

My dc don't return to school until the 11/01 so I've always felt like the holidays is Christmas holiday.

TheGremlinsAreComing · 28/12/2020 16:10

Toddler has taken all the baubles off within reach but I'm not that fussed, it still looks pretty so it'll stay up till the 6th January as always. Even after that there'll still be lights up around the house for a good while into winter as it cheers me up no end during the crap weather and dark nights.

jillypill · 28/12/2020 16:10

It’s weird how people are so willing to start Christmas so early but not enjoy it during the actual festival.

That's what I don't understand.

Sounds like you put yours up in November

hiredandsqueak · 28/12/2020 16:12

I usually put ours up on the 18th and take it down January 2nd tbf. This year it went up as usual on the 18th but having dgs constantly taking off the decorations has driven me potty.
It was very cute the first time he did it handing it to me and telling me it was dead and to put it back. By the (feels like) thousandth time it was annoying.
I provide childcare for dd so the prospect of full days of fielding baubles was all the incentive I needed to take it down.

I think it's nice to have the decorations up for NYE, even more so for this yr.

jillypill · 28/12/2020 16:14

I get the small dc thing. One yr I had a stick tree thing because my youngest was a bulldozer.

itsgettingweird · 28/12/2020 16:15

Did mine this afternoon.

Hadn't actually planned to. Was sorting all the stuff on window ledges and mantle etc and putting presents away. Then just didn't stop Grin

I usually have mine up until New Year's Eve from middle of December.

This year had it up beginning of December but never did get into spirit of tree lights on etc until Xmas day when I felt I should!
