Aibu to no longer give ds1 a stocking now he’s turned 18?

I can’t think of a better time to stop.otherwise I’ll be doing it when he’s 30!

I feel a bit mean though!

Ds2 (15) will still get one.

@spiderlight. Love your dog's stocking! Ours have smelly dried animal parts as their presents this year so any stocking will need to be washable.

My mum stopped doing my sister and I stockings when we had kids ourselves as she would rather contribute to the grandchildren's stockings which is fine by me.

My Mum does a stocking for my DP and he's 51!

One year a dd brought a friend from uni to stay over Christmas - he was torn between two divorced parents and decided that going to neither was the only way.
Of course I did a stocking for him too - his mum had done him one as well, so he had two!

I'm 50 and have never not had a stocking apart from one year when I stayed with my then boyfriend and his parents.

DH and DD (13) do one for me, I do all the kids, DH and one for my mum, who is 82. It is only sweets and few treats and it is one of the best bits of Xmas.

In short, carry on! Why wouldn't you?

Never too old for a stocking

SD1978 · 14/12/2020 23:26

If he's home for Christmas, he gets a stocking. I don't see why there needs to be an age limit.

Just got DD(18's) stocking out ready. I don't specifically get stocking presents but the smaller gifts (wrapped) will go in there.

I don't think doing it at 18 means I will still be doing it in her 30's, there are a few years and a lot of life changes she will go through during this time.

stockings are just a tradition here not from santa or anything and I make them for myself and DH... filled with sweets and the odd extra item only costs £5pp its not bank breaking.

VestaTilley · 17/12/2020 13:47

Why would you stop it? We all get one in our family! They’re not just for children.
