Thanks @GoblinDaughter for the title

It’s nearly December, Father Christmas is busy putting the final touches to his toys on the workshop and we are busy elves preparing for a somewhat different Christmas this year.

please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

@ArabellaPilkington various bits on etsy

BalaamsAss · 01/12/2020 16:49

Thanks so much @buckeejit - really helpful. We do indeed have a Creative Gardens nearby so I may take a wee drive out there in my lunch break tomorrow and see what they have. I am loving the “no care here” mantra - that suits me down to the ground! Funny that you say it doesn’t do much for keeping warm - I was talking to my colleague about them today and he reckoned fire pits are better for keeping larger groups warm than patio heaters which are only really good for 3/4 people max.

Puffalicious · 01/12/2020 16:53

BalaambAss we've had our chiminea for donkeys years and still going strong. It's roasting and we have 3 boys and a large extended family, so it's on a lot Oct- March. If you can possibly get your hands on one they are great and last a long time.

buckeejit · 01/12/2020 16:55

Yes they're defo better than patio heaters. To be fair I'm really cold blooded & normally when the outside fire is on I'm warm enough but have always attributed that to the wine consumption that goes along with them...

Lolly12 · 01/12/2020 17:02

@XmasLockdown fab thank you had forgotten about the wish list thing. Off to look at that now!

TheLastStarfighter · 01/12/2020 17:03

Argh! We were lucky to score a PS5 through EE, but unfortunately they sent the delivery confirmation to DS2’s phone today Angry. So he came home from school saying “great news, EE are sending us a PS5 for Christmas”. No idea why it was sent to his phone as I was very, very careful to have my number down as the contact number.

I guess the good news is that we have got one. And I know they have been overwhelmed by the amount of orders, so probably a human-error slip up.

BalaamsAss · 01/12/2020 17:08

@Puffalicious do you happen to know which chiminea you have? I was originally looking at them but DH seemed to think a fire pit would give off better heat and would be better for roasting marshmallows. (Which is apparently a priority Hmm)
@ArabellaPilkington various bits on etsy
Thank you I had looked on Etsy but nothing really grabbed me. Wondering why there is so little merch.

Puffalicious · 01/12/2020 18:00

BalaambsAss I have no idea- I'll nip out to the deck in a bit (too cold right now and I'm rolled in a throw with cuppa!). For DH the marshmallow toasting is particularly great, you just lift off the small lid at the top and hold the mallow on the sticks over the flames that lick out.

shipperssss · 01/12/2020 18:04

Thanks @Puffalicious that looks right up his street.

sorryiasked · 01/12/2020 18:10

@ArabellaPilkington if you search Amazon for "the golden compass" there are some things that might do

yumyumpoppycat · 01/12/2020 18:14

ThelastStar prob too late now but when something similar happened to us we said it was a scam message (I guess lying isn't a great example though!) I don't think they believed us but it gave the element of uncertainty at least

yumyumpoppycat · 01/12/2020 18:16

Your son must be v excited for Christmas now at least!!

Iggi999 · 01/12/2020 18:17

@Puffalicious you keep the lid of all the time it's burning though, not just when there are marshmallows. The one I have came from Argos and is fine for us but I think the heat wouldn't be enough for a large group. There are bigger ones.

Iggi999 · 01/12/2020 18:22

off

JustanotherTuesday · 01/12/2020 18:23

I've just had an email, Amazon have got Xbox Series S to preorder. Delivery by 18/19th December if you have Prime.

IggyAce · 01/12/2020 18:32

If anyone is still after giant soft toys I suggest you try your nearest large b&m store, they had the following animals for £30:
Dinosaur
Winged unicorn
Elephant
Teddy bear
Monkey.

Iggi999 · 01/12/2020 18:35

That's good to hear, justanothertuesday not sure whether to go for it or hold my nerve for a series x..
(I have already bought an S through game but it isn't due to come till Christmas Eve!)

JustanotherTuesday · 01/12/2020 18:41

@Iggi999 I'm not sure if I'd chance it for Christmas Eve, there are quite a lot of complaints on their Facebook page about recent orders arriving late.
The Series X is due in sometime but it depends how much stock they release.
How brave do you feel ?

Puffalicious · 01/12/2020 18:45

Yes Iggy I should have said the lid is off when it's burning all the time- perfect for mallows. Ours is quite big but I suppose they vary wildly.

derekthe1adyhamster · 01/12/2020 18:50

Just had an email from Aldi saying that due to their supply chain my fake velvetiser is delayed. It had better come. I mean, i didn't know I needed one until this thread but I've bought M&S chocolate and everything for it.....

Thewinterofdiscontent · 01/12/2020 18:51

@PinkSpring

Any ideas for a keepsake type present? DS will be 1 at the end of December so it's also his first Christmas. He doesn't really need toys as we have a toddler so kept lots of things!

Finding him really difficult to buy for, got him some clothes and a couple of new toys. I know he won't care or notice but I feel the need!!!

Could you not get a decoration for the tree? Maybe a soft knitted one so he can have a chomp. Then it can be his special one to put up every year. It’s not something he’ll grow out of or you’ll give away when he’s 15 and there’s too much junk.
recklessgran · 01/12/2020 18:58

Anyone else in a virtual queue at Debenhams? Apparently I'll be in in 8 minutes.

recklessgran · 01/12/2020 19:05

Site has crashed. I'm not bothering and definitely not going to real life shop!
