please post any bargain info IN BOLD to make it easier to scroll through the thread.

To make things bold you:
Put a star each side of what you want to make bold like this but without the space between the star and the writing *

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

Here’s Barbarara’s instructions from last year on doing clicky links:

Open double square brackets
No space
Paste link
Space
Name of link
No space
Close double square brackets

Like this
[[www.amazingbargains.com bargain ]] but with no space after/before the brackets.
If I do it again without the extra spaces only the word bargain will appear in blue

For more links etc see message 2

If any link doesn’t work or you want to add something please let me know by @ing me Thanks

Not a bargain as such but make it British website have a pop up shop from tomorrow to Sunday. Basically they are a directory of British manufacturers. I’ve found lots of great British small scale manufacturers from there I would never have known about. You have to register on the website to take part in the pop up shop, but you can register into a prize draw.

@bettyskitchen

Does anyone have any recommendations for foodie places that do reasonable international delivery? My friend in Australia could do with cheering up and would love to send her something, alternatively any Aus based companies / recommendations would be fab too
@bettyskitchen I haven’t had a chance to read the whole thread - sorry everyone - but saw your post. My lovely SiL is in Oz. I asked for some recommendations on here for Secret Santa and someone recommended the Three Chocolatiers. It was her 40th last week so we bought her a chocolate hamper. She was thrilled. Not the cheapest but it was better than posting from her. I’m very grateful to whoever originally made the suggestion.

I’ve attached the pics she sent us.

@Bezzi I’ve done a stocking for my mum (and aunt) whenever they’ve stayed with me over Christmas and they’ve always gone down well. One thing that went down really well that I wasn’t expecting to was one of the Asda £4 supersoft microfleece plush throws in a Christmas design. It was the first year we’d been near an Asda to know about them and I’d bought them for the dc, the giant bear, one each for me and dh so added a couple in for dmum and daunt as my living room can be draughty so thought it was easier for everyone to have their own different throw to use - or not - as they wanted. All the stockings were propped up in the recipient’s throw. My mum is not a throw kind of person but she has loved her throw - it’s so soft and light it’s easy to manoeuvre, use on its own in the summer, pull over her lap if she is chilly at home, take travelling in the car and so on. I bought her a jolly Xmas red HoHoHo design thinking it would be cheerful and decorative if nothing else - but she now has several that match her lounge and bedroom and she leaves one at dsis’s As she stays there lots and she has a couple spare plus her Xmas one - you can tell it was a while ago as they were £4 but are about £6 these days. But there are lots of lovely designs - festive and not. And for a cheap throw, they wash really well and stay looking good years down the line.

Other things that went down well if you have access to a home bargains or b&m or Poundland - a nice little mirror, a small pack of nice biros, a memo block, HB used to do tissue packs that were only 20p but printed up like £50 notes, a small pack of emery boards or a nice glass nail file, Poundland often has decent brands reduced to a pound - I’ve had burt’s bees tinted lip balm for a pound which is £6-7 in the shops, likewise nice revlon/nails inc/etc make up for a pound instead of £5-15 for a few bits. A couple of silly bits like a flashing Christmas brooch or bracelet, there are some lovely cheap Christmas scarves you can get from eBay or amazon for £2-3 that get sold for a lot more in the shops, often with Santa or robins or snowflakes etc on.
An old fashioned game or two from HB like Jacks or marbles that she would have played when she was little and can play with your dc, a puzzle book and/or magazine she likes but wouldn’t normally treat herself to, a nice new sharp knife or peeler or silicon wooden spoon that she would like but probably carry on using what she had, a couple of little bottles of booze so she doesn’t need to open a big bottle - baileys, Prosecco, red wine etc. Or M&s usually have some lovely smallish bottles of nice drinks - haven’t checked this year but previously things like Black Forest gateau liqueur or creme brûlée liqueur (and many more!) were my particular favourites as an Xmas treat.

It can be a lovely tradition - I have as much fun doing hers and my aunts stockings as the dc! And just to make it fair as the dc then worried about me and dh being left out I do one ea h for us too, which is a great excuse to buy a couple of little treats 😁😁

Thanks @IggyAce for the poundtoy recommendation. That 4 stockings sorted, and the tooth fairy drawer restocked Smile

Bezzi · 30/10/2020 06:41

Thank you @wibdib some amazing ideas there. I have Asda, B&M, Home Bargains etc all within reach so I'll go shopping armed with your ideas when the kids are back in school next week.
Thanks so much everyone for the ideas! It's all so exciting, love these threads

shipperssss · 30/10/2020 08:03

@Cinderellashoes

Can anyone recommend where I may find a lovely soft grinch toy? Saw one in Waterstones for £17 but pricey! Budget around £10 ideally?

I bought this a few weeks ago, £12 and beautifully soft and snuggly. As soft as jellycats.
