I have a few friends i'd like to gift something small and cheap this Xmas. What are some token gifts you'd like to receive and would actually use?

Scented candle
Bottle of wine
Hand cream

WeeM · 18/10/2020 17:49

Nice chocolates (the florentine idea is nice)
Candle (as long as you’re happy picking a scent for someone)
Wine
Cook book
Scarf
Posh soap

I’d be happy with any of these.

Nice bubble bath or bath soak. Not bath bombs as some are weird.
Miniature perfume.
Chocolate.
Posh tea.

Its really difficult as I would like say a bottle of badedas but not a bottle of wine ( I don't drink). I've love nice tea but I hate coffee. I love dark chocolate but not milk or white. I like candles but burning them gives me a headache. Book or cafe vouchers sound good but then its not really a token gift but just a gift gift.

Candles / chocolate / wine / posh pasta / posh oil / dog shampoo 😂

I steer clear of wine, personally. Cheap wine is never nice. It also just seems really thoughtless and recycled, too impersonal for me.

Token gifts I would like to receive:

  1. Nice chocolate (just a small box of luxury chocolate where the cost is minimal, like a small box of good quality truffles, maybe with a handwritten message on the side or a small photo of you both in the box)
  2. A personalised picture of our friendship drawn by an artist (might be more expensive than what you are thinking though) - a very small hand drawn card to make me laugh - or a quote that means something special to us that I can either frame or keep somewhere to look back on in the future, a drawing of a TV show we like or a character we find funny. If it were a card I would include a message of how much the friendship means to me
  3. 100% natural handmade soap
  4. A book - either something that brings back a memory, or a book of funny quotes/jokes, etc
  5. A personalised mug - not with a name on but with something on that is personal again to us - maybe from a favourite movie, or a show we used to like as children

A glass bauble.

IndieTara · 18/10/2020 17:55

A book

InFiveMins · 18/10/2020 17:55

If any of them have pets, a hand drawn pic of their pet that they can frame or put on their desk at work? Might be able to find a local artist that will do a few small ones for a decent price.

Beautiful3 · 18/10/2020 17:57

Lindt chocolate or a nice pair of socks. Not smellies nor a candle.

gamesconsoler · 18/10/2020 18:01

Candle or a notebook or chocolate

hiredandsqueak · 18/10/2020 18:03

A book token would be my favourite.

Bargebill19 · 18/10/2020 18:04

Cheap, fun earrings made out of fimo type.

SingingInTheShithouse · 18/10/2020 18:04

I'd hate the local artist idea & would be mortified to receive such a gift & feel I had to display it when I really wouldn't want to. Art is very personal

BreakfastOfWaffles · 18/10/2020 18:05

Cosy socks
A macaroon from a posh bakery
Oliver Bonas hand cream

Beach11 · 18/10/2020 18:05

Candle, shower gel, hand cream, chocolates, biscuits, nice tea

TokyoSushi · 18/10/2020 18:06

Something standard, but the posh version, like instead of your usual shower gel, a £10 one, I always love a candle, nice chocolates, but yes, the pish version of something they'd usually use! xx

MessAllOver · 18/10/2020 18:07

Something consumable. Use it, enjoy it and then it doesn't take up space in my (small) home.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 18/10/2020 18:08

Proper bar soap (TK Maxx do lovely ones)
Fluffy socks
Yarn/knitting patterns
Travel mug

That sort of thing would be my ideal. I can't eat chocolate so that is out for me.

MessAllOver · 18/10/2020 18:08

Special iced biscuits always a winner here.

teethiepegs · 18/10/2020 18:09

A plant!

supadupapupascupa · 18/10/2020 18:12

Hand cream, nice lip balm, chocolates, wine

AcornsVsBcorns · 18/10/2020 18:13

Socks. I bloody love socks.

Lovemusic33 · 18/10/2020 18:14

A house plant?
Food?
Costa voucher?

LaMarschallin · 18/10/2020 18:18

I'd like you to give me diamond earrings (nothing fancy, 1\2 carat each is fine).

I would take them as a token of your high esteem.

Otherwise wine or something edible (hopefully something I like).
