I have a few friends i'd like to gift something small and cheap this Xmas. What are some token gifts you'd like to receive and would actually use?

A nice bar of soap. Something special

Porridgeoat · 18/10/2020 18:21

A very posh pudding or posh chutney and nice cheese

EnglishRain · 18/10/2020 18:21

Depends so much on the person I expect. I am very easily pleased, winners for me include:

Socks (ie. cute ones with animals on)
Nice hand soap bar, l'occitane etc, they do a charity one sometimes, currently £5 for one that provides a year supply of vitamin A for three children, ideal sized soap for a cloakroom etc
Bath bomb or bubble bar
Chocolate, could be something a bit fancy ie. Godiva or Montezuma (can get in sainsburys I think?) or M&S Belgian truffles for like £5
Fingerless gloves
Scarf, woolly or cotton kind, Etsy have lots of nice patterns

IDontMindMarmite · 18/10/2020 18:22

A cute Christmas tree decoration

Inthetropics · 18/10/2020 18:22

Wow! Lots os sugestions already! Thank you all!

To answer a few questions/clarify things:

  • I'll be tailloring the gifts to each friends taste; am using this thread to get diferent ideas that i might not come up with myself but i plan of giving people stuff that they will be able to enjoy (so no chocolate for friend who i know would hate it or wine for people i know have very particular taste and it would be risky to buy for).
  • I don't have an exact amount to spend, but under 10 would be best!
  • All my friends work in public health and are in serious need of some afection. Most won't be going to family gatherings this year and some won't get a gift at all, they'll be buying for their kids (the ones that have kids) and that's it.

Cute stationary. Washi tape. Pens. Etc.

Not toiletries because I have severe allergies that mean just opening a package with soap or a candle inside would be dangerous. I generally only exchange gifts with people close enough to me to know about my allergies though so this hasn’t come up.

Really good qualiy socks (like all the pp said)

Small tube of a really naice hand cream, for carrying in your handbag.

Whittards hot chocolate powders

A big mug with a pretty design

Gloves

A good qualiy brolly

Scarf (but only if you know their taste of colour and pattern).

A 'built' travel mug, kinda a flask and a travel mug in one, and quite stylish.

Notepad and good quality pens

Chocolates or prosecco always go down well

Easy to care for house plants, eg cacti or succulents, peace lily or a spider plant.

RainbowMum11 · 18/10/2020 18:29

Wine, candle or a notebook

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 18/10/2020 18:33

Seeds or compost. Seeds and compost would guarantee my eternal devotion!

AuntieStella · 18/10/2020 18:38

Running socks - they're expensive for socks, but worth it (about £8 and upwards)

burglarbettybaby · 18/10/2020 18:40

I would love wine or baileys
Nice mug
Mascara
Earrings
Notebook
Or any type of pen / stationary

Mammyloveswine · 18/10/2020 18:43

Wine, book and chocolate!

Porridgeoat · 18/10/2020 18:43

A nice pen

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 18/10/2020 18:43

A pack of good ground coffee from a proper roasting place (i.e not from a supermarket)
A bottle of craft beer from a local brewery
A small bottle of top quality Olive Oil
Small jar of local honey

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/10/2020 18:46

Something local - a plant from an indie shop or garden centre / locally made chocolates, cheese or beer / locally made soap / etc

Flowers or Prosecco or a tiny box of 'nice' chocolate

A book or a lovely bookmark

Charlieeee76 · 18/10/2020 18:47

A body scrub or a face mask.

MrsTumbletap · 18/10/2020 18:49

Candle or chocolate.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 18/10/2020 18:55

what's cheap to you? I am guessing a tenner?
I would like good chocolate, or truffles
L'occitane or Neal's Yard Soap
bottle of Albariño
loose leaf tea or coffee beans
a paperback book that you loved reading
Anything at all from Betty's

SingingInTheShithouse · 18/10/2020 18:58

If they work in public health... good hand cream!

Our local councillor did a shout out & collection for healthcare staff who were desperate for hand cream & added home made oat cookies to each parcel so all healthcare staff in our ward got a small present. Washing & frequent antibac was drying out hands badly

WouldBeGood · 18/10/2020 18:59

Definitely not chocolates or smelly things.

A bottle of something you know they like to drink-nothing novelty or Christmas flavoured.

A tenner Amazon voucher.

WouldBeGood · 18/10/2020 19:01

Just read your update, definitely an Amazon voucher

Kljnmw3459 · 18/10/2020 19:01

Chocolate, wine, biscuits, hot choc, tea, sweets, cheese, candle, hand moisturiser. Anything really.

Suzi888 · 18/10/2020 19:01

Wine, chocolate, soap, jars of chutney/ pickle 😋

TaffyandTeenyTaffy · 18/10/2020 19:02

A Christmas decoration/bauble.

tentative3 · 18/10/2020 19:05

If you know them well then that's much easier, so on a less generic level:

Balsamic pickled onions from the local cheese shop
A box of brownies from the pastry chef lady in the market
T2 tea (a specific one that my friends and I are addicted to)
A pin badge to go on my work lanyard (there are a few I would like)
Spacemasks
Imported chocolate
