I have a few friends i'd like to gift something small and cheap this Xmas. What are some token gifts you'd like to receive and would actually use?

OP posts:
BrowncoatWaffles · 19/10/2020 12:30

Lovely hand cream, lemony hand sanitiser, fluffy socks, chocolate :)

janaus50s · 19/10/2020 12:46

A scented heat pack

mcgonagalscat · 19/10/2020 12:52

A book voucher for Waterstones

Pepperwand · 19/10/2020 12:52

Probably all been said but I'd be very happy with a bottle of red wine, chocolates, all butter shortbread in a pretty tin, scented candle, bath soak.

I wouldn't want body lotion, white wine or prosecco but that's just personal preference!

Besom · 19/10/2020 13:35

I really hate getting toiletries or scented candles because they invariably make me allergic or I just don't like the smell of them.

I think this thread is proof that there isn't a fail safe one size fits all present but I guess it's the thought that counts.

OP has said she plans to give thought to each inviduals she's giving to but she just wants ideas.

Home made fudge or home made chocolate truffles of assorted flavours were my stand by token gift as a penniless person with access to a kitchen. Present in a cellophane bag (made from a roll of cellophane - much easier to buy nowadays, secured with sellotape covered by curled ribbons. Looks posh and tastes yummy, you can tailor to suit the person (favourite tipple in some of the fudge, favourite colour ribbons). Attach a gift tag so say what flavour they are etc.

sapnupuas · 19/10/2020 14:25

Chocolate. Always.

wineandcheeseplease · 19/10/2020 14:26

socks or chocolate

Not smellies!!

Trousersareoverrated · 19/10/2020 14:28

Wine, wine and more wine

gretagreengrapes · 19/10/2020 14:29

A pair of gloves from sainsbury's are one of my most treasured 'token gifts'. My friend and I wouldn't usually buy Christmas gifts but she'd remembered I said I wanted some.

Otherwise I like handcream and nice chocolates.

delilahbucket · 19/10/2020 14:29

I don't like smellies as I am allergic to most. Chocolate and wine always a winner, but not the really cheap stuff. I also like little gifts for home like hanging hearts, candles etc.

LaBellina · 19/10/2020 14:30

Handcream
Bath salts
Nice chocolate
A pretty handkerchief (yes I'm old fashioned)
A lovely brooch that looks nice on my coat
Scented candle
Colouring book for adults

Whatthebloodyell · 19/10/2020 14:35

Hand cream
Chocolate
Cheese/chutney
Wine
Christmas tree decoration? I like cats so often get cat themed stuff which can be a bit tacky, but I love a tacky Christmas so a tree decoration is ideal.

ODFOx · 19/10/2020 14:58

Something Christmassy and either consumable or disposable. So lovely spiced cookies or a scented candle.

SE13Mummy · 19/10/2020 15:04

A Lush bubble bar
Flowers (not a plant)
Newly published book
Bamboo socks

LadyofMisrule · 19/10/2020 16:35

Pens. Uniball do nice colours now. I've got a bright blue and raspberry pink ones.
Notepads. I write a lot. Moleskine-style (own brand, not real branded ones) or plain buff.

Chilli sauce/jam - homemade stuff like that.

My friend did me a jar of spiced roasted almonds last year that was lovely.
No candles, bath bombs, perfume, wine.

Marmite27 · 19/10/2020 16:37

Costco do a 3 pack of tins of butter cookies with flower fairies on for less than £10.

LadyofMisrule · 19/10/2020 16:42

Nice bar soap
Early Grey tea (loose)
Badedas shower gel
An ebook chosen to my taste.
A pack of unusual chilli seeds

A token gift for me means less than a fiver.

LadyofMisrule · 19/10/2020 16:43

!

kavalkada · 19/10/2020 17:32

I love this thead.

So, things under 10 pounds I would like to find under the tree (amazon prices)

Books like The Enchanted April and Vera by Elizabeth Von Armin, 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff - all under 7 pounds

Bette Davis DVD collection 9.99

Ravensburger Vintage Library puzzle collection 500 pieces - all under 10 pounds

Film Noir dvd collection 6.99

Lindt Creation dessert 200 g 6.99

uncomfortablydumb53 · 19/10/2020 18:58

Depending on budget of course but nice socks, chocolate or a bottle of decent hand wash with perhaps a lip balm

CoronaIsWatching · 19/10/2020 20:16

Cactus

CountFosco · 19/10/2020 20:16

From people who don't know me well enough to know I have an exhaustive Amazon wishlist I prefer consumable things that won't hang about in my house and the most expensive version you can get for your budget.

So, e.g. I'd rather have a tiny box of chocolates from the local delicatessen that a massive tin of quality street from the supermarket. I'd rather have cashmere socks than an acrylic jumper (although the socks would be way out of budget). I'd rather have a travel tube of handcream from L'occitaine than a big bottle from the dreaded Baylis and Harding.

Things for under £10 I'd really appreciate: Books. My Amazon wishlist is that way ---->
Triple milled bar soap (TKMaxx do loads of lovely soap)
A pair of glittery socks
Tiny box of very posh chocolates
Those florentines mentioned above
Home baking

Things that would go straight to charity:
Hats, gloves etc made from acrylic
Candles
Arts or crafts
Toiletries except soap bars or nice handcream

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/10/2020 20:52

Agree with CountFosco - a few expensive chocolate s, rather than loads of cheap ones

A mini Aveda handcream, rather than a bumper box of Boots 3 for 2 stuff

One pair of 'nice' socks, rather than 5 pairs of cheap ones

One beautiful notebook (e.g. Moleskine or Paperchase do some lovely ones) rather than a selection of cheap pens etc

One big piece of good cheese, rather than 4 pieces of supermarket stuff

I'm not a snob, but I can buy all the ordinary stuff myself
