Thanks @ClaraLane for thread title

Just a reminder you can watch the thread by clicking on ‘watch this thread’ at the top of the first message. It’s much easier for everyone than so many place marking every time which can use up a fair chunk of each thread to scroll through Thanks

gingerbeerandlemonade · 15/09/2020 13:23

I'm after the puppets too! Keep missing them. I wasn't bothered by them at first but now I really want them 🤣

TheGriffle · 15/09/2020 13:40

MooseyMoo · 15/09/2020 13:54

@EvilHerbivore

The Empty Christmas Stocking is a lovely book. I used to do a Christmas book advent calendar and this was one of my favourites

Notlongnow1 · 15/09/2020 13:56

@allatonce99 they are nice pens - I got them cheap a while back and stocked up

Tamtam86 · 15/09/2020 13:59

We love christmas at exeter street. fabulous book and DD insists we keep it out until the end of Jan. The Empty Stocking is also good. I think for that age it would be good to start reading the Christmas Carol though. The Tolkien book sounds good though so will keep an eye out for that for DD this year.

Managed to bagsy my first Lottie doll on the Lightening deals with 46 seconds left on the deal. DD has 3 on her list...

thelegohooverer · 15/09/2020 14:08

@LittleMissA I don’t know anything about that website (hoping someone else can comment as it would be lovely for dd) but if anyone is thinking of an animal sponsorship gift I can highly recommend this penguin adoption.
It cost $59 so under £50 and you get a certificate, photo and several email updates a year. We’ve had it for years for penguin mad ds, getting the emails for younger kids option and they’re chatty, funny and very educational. It’s all done by email, so there’s no soft toy or magazine though I like that tbh. Don’t let the website put you off. It’s a bit all over the place but the guy behind it, Mike Bingham is very genuine and passionate. My only caveat is that now we have to save up to go to Chile and meet him and the penguins so it might not be bargainous after all Smile

Carrie76 · 15/09/2020 14:08

Another vote for Christmas on Exeter St here, we love it!

thelegohooverer · 15/09/2020 14:08

The Tolkien book is fabulous but I wouldn’t recommend it for a believer.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 15/09/2020 14:20

Puppets are back!

Oreocrumbs · 15/09/2020 14:22

Hi all I'm enjoying the Christmas book chat. DD now doesn't believe, but she's all about the magic of life so I'm hoping she will engage! I think I will get the Tolkien book this year.

The chat prompted my memory of the book How Winston delivered Christmas. I bought it a few years ago after it was recommended on one of these threads. You read a chapter per night (24 chapters) and there are little activities you can do. It's a lovely story and DD loves it. So it's an advent thing rather than a Christmas Eve thing but I thought it should have a mention!

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 15/09/2020 14:23

I'm not even sure if I wanted the puppets - but it just became the point of it tbh

EvilHerbivore · 15/09/2020 14:39

Thanks so much for the book ideas - I've got some lovely ones now sat in my amazon basket and shall think of you all on Christmas Eve, under our weighted duvets glaring at the puppets 😂

EvilHerbivore · 15/09/2020 14:41

That penguin sponsorship looks lovely, does anyone know of a cat one?
DS1 adores our 2 but would fill the house with them if I didn't say no! Would love him to be able to properly sponsor one that really needs it from a smaller organisation somewhere and not just contribute to one of the bigger charities

BestofLuck · 15/09/2020 14:45

Yes - another fan of Exeter Street too. The Christmas Eve Tree is also lovely.

Sunshineskies · 15/09/2020 14:48

@AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings I actually had it recommended to me on one of these threads. Wasn’t you was it!? My dd was 2 or 3 at the time and is now 10.

MsMiaWallace · 15/09/2020 15:37

Got my Smyths toys catalogue through today.
Let's hope they do the sale!

Scbchl · 15/09/2020 15:52

Barry m has some make up sets reduced and Newtreat15 gets 15% off. Usually a good little gift for younger girls to play around with.

PinkJam · 15/09/2020 16:19

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts Thank you for the tip about the LOL remix pre orders. Have ordered a pet and one of the OMG dolls. Can’t believe how much the plane is!!

Twilightstarbright · 15/09/2020 16:30

Sorry I've lost track, is it b&m or home bargains who have Christmas hand sanitizer?

UselessInDisguise · 15/09/2020 16:30

Can anyone recommend a bargain long winter coat? I brought the asda one for £18 but it doesnt fit well in my arms. It will never go on over a jumper Sad
