Good work fluffy! I had such plans to be productive today but I woke up to the news that my grandfather had died. Is it normal to find grief utterly exhausting? Only did the walk this morning but I feel as though I have been awake for days, I am so tired despite having an afternoon nap.

Elephantonascooter · 07/06/2020 17:54

Hi all I was wondering if I could join the Xmas countdown?
We've just found out we are expecting in jan/Feb and between now and then we have mine and dh's birthday and ds1 birthday along with buying baby stuff!
Thank god for monzo, I've started a Christmas pot and will be starting a baby pot for the big things, hoping to get on black Friday.
Found a bookshelf unit which would be great for DS for either birthday or Xmas.
I feel like I need to start a list for each thing we are saving/buying for. It seems crazy to start thinking about Xmas in June but it feels necessary this year. I suppose the upside is that being 8 months pregnant will limit my desire for things for myself so I can spend more on dh and kids!

I do bloody love Christmas. I'm furloughed at the moment and DS is back at nursery so I'm thinking of starting to make my reindeer bunting soon. I made some a fews years ago and last year we decided they all looked like they'd had a few too many shandys! So it was agreed that I would make another lot.
I was really poorly last Xmas and slaved away over an Xmas dinner that I didn't enjoy so this year I think we will try and see family for 'the dinner'. I'm sure they won't make me cook so pregnant, will they?!!

The countdown is on. I'm going to go and buy a new notepad tomorrow for all my lists I need!

Elephantonascooter · 07/06/2020 17:56

@Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear

I'm sorry for your loss. Grief hits us all differently. Get an early night if you can and go with how you feel. There is no right or wrong. I hope you start to feel OK soo

NoWordForFluffy · 07/06/2020 18:00

Oh Most, I'm so sorry. Flowers

And yes, I find grief / upset hugely exhausting. Be kind to yourself.

Fluffy hes has the cough for over a week. He's had a corona test so we know it's not that but FIL has heart issues, my mum has lung issues, DNephew is immune-compromised so all local family aren't a visit option. Friends who are local enough for me to meet with (still on a 5mile limit here) have been busy this weekend. Add to that my car is in the garage until Tuesday (and I hate driving DHs car) and I'm going stir crazy.

I'm so sorry about your grandad most 💐 And yes, I find the upset / grief makes me worn out and exhausted.

Welcome Elephant. Bunting sounds like a fun furlough project.

I've made a start on Father's Day (just ordered a photo card from Free Prints) and done a roast. DH did all the other housework as I'm back to working and he isn't really needed to do much.

I'm going to have a bath soon with salts to soak my skin. I suffer with eczema and psoriasis and generally keep it all well controlled as it's mild but it's kicked off this week. It's on my scalp, fingers, elbows, nose and feet

WreckTangled · 07/06/2020 19:18

Most Thanks take care of yourself

Crazy I have psoriasis on my scalp and it's really glaring up too.

Welcome elephants

TheWoollybacksWife · 07/06/2020 19:40

most my condolences. I'm so sorry but I'm only dipping in and out of the thread occasionally. Had your grandfather been ill for long? Look after yourself. Naps are good and don't be afraid of speaking to your doctor if you need to. When my mum died my sleep patterns were all over the place. Grief can get you in so many ways.

We have a few spud plants growing. They are maincrop so I think they'll only be ready in the autumn. My chilli didn't take so I'm going to see if the garden centre at the end of the road has one. We go through a fair amount of chilli sauce so it would be very satisfying to grow the chillis that went in it.

I had the pleasure of a socially distanced meeting with Why last week. She's lovely.

I've got a Skype consultation this week with the surgeon who fixed my left shoulder. My right shoulder is almost completely frozen now. I've no idea what's happening with non COVID stuff but I really hope they can operate soon. I haven't slept for longer than 4 hours at a time for nearly a month now and I'm a grumpy cow at the best of times. 🤣

Mrsmadevans · 07/06/2020 21:14

Crazy hope your Dh cough is better soon and your eczema & psoriasis calm down. You can't beat a bath to make you feel better. I would hate not having the car too Smile

Mrsmadevans · 07/06/2020 21:29

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 07/06/2020 22:26

So sorry for your loss Most. Grief affects us all in different ways and there is no wrong way to feel.

It was lovely to meet you from a distance Woolly. I have finally sorted dying my hair purple today. Pretty sure the colour does not match the box though 😀

Sounds like your mum and Bob are quite some characters Mrs.

Mrsmadevans · 07/06/2020 23:46

Why you can say that again , l think your hair sounds fab Smile

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 08/06/2020 07:05

Thank you all for your kind words. We had been expecting it as he had been ill with cancer for some time and was getting rapidly worse. I had a good night's sleep and am feeling more human this morning so that is good :)

Welcome elephants

Lovely to see you Woolly :)

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2020 08:03

201

Morning!

I'm just back from watering the allotment. I fed the cucumbers, pumpkins and courgettes as they starting to produce fruit now, so need a boost. I also put another line of beetroot seed in the ground.

There was a tiny amount of rain in the wind while I was there. Not enough to water anything but enough to make me feel daft stood with my hosepipe! 😂😂

I'm glad you're feeling better this morning, Most. Sleep is exceptionally restorative, physically and mentally. Flowers

I don't trust the BBC forecasting, Mrs. Metz Office for me!

OP posts:
NerosFiddle · 08/06/2020 08:25

Morning.

Met Éireann doesn't give it to rain here today but it's looking a bit overcast at the minute. I'll risk putting out a wash though.

I have a Tesco delivery booked for tomorrow. It's come to £60 and there's nothing wild or wonderful on it. Literally just dinners, no treats or alcohol.

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2020 09:00

The prices have really gone up, haven't they, Neros?

We are overcast here too (though we are only just across the Irish Sea!). We are putting our towels out though. No rain is forecast.

OP posts:
CrazyBaubles · 08/06/2020 09:20

I'm glad the sleep has helped most

fluffy I have an image of you in raincoat and wellies, holding a hose and watering the allotment in the middle of a downpour 😂

Neros our food shop has gone up loads. At the mo our increased food bill is offset (plus some) by fuel savings as I'm WFH. Hopefully prices will go back down soon!

I was expecting overcast here but the sun seems to be out (for now at least).
Working until 3:30 today (I started at 7) so if it stays nice we may go somewhere different for a walk - either the canal or my favourite mountain 😊

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 08/06/2020 09:35

It rained here overnight and my water butt is full!

Enjoy your walk crazy :)

BiddyPop · 08/06/2020 11:39

DD has left the house, and gone to sailing camp!! OMG, I know it's not huge, but just knowing that I now have the mornings without interruptions (or to be able to interrupt myself when I choose Wink) feels huge to me. No rain here, cold but sunny and breezy, so I also put out washing. Looked at my bank account too - I know I haven't spent on other stuff, but OMG I have spent soooo much on food!! And we still don't have much by way of stores rebuilt, and seem to be missing lots of "usual" items in the cupboards. I spent a lot of the weekend crafting (knitting Fri pm, sewing with the machine yesterday afternoon, XSt in the evening until it got dark) so that was nice (and I learned how to do mitred corners on the machine!). Slowly reducing the projects pile and increasing the pile in the gift closet.. I woke at 3 though, with my knee. Can't get my MRI scan for a while yet, no clinics are taking bookings, which is understandable but I have been waiting for 4 months now and am starting to struggle walking longer distances which is the only exercise option really (don't have a bike anymore and all pools are closed)...sorry, moan over, going to get back to work and make some progress before DD comes home starving and needing food urgently.

BiddyPop · 08/06/2020 11:41

Most sorry to hear about your DGF. Mind yourself.

And you too with the shoulder Woolly

Mrsmadevans · 08/06/2020 18:36

Evening everyone Smile
Been to Mum's , she wanted an announcement put in the local paper for Dad's 90th birthday but the paper has diverted all the calls to it's sister paper so l don't think l can do it . I will put it on her Facebook instead with a nice picture. Problem solved l hope Smile
Biddy aw love your knee sounds painful Flowers , great work on the stash of projects too Grin
As for food costs , it's ridiculous , l can't get over the prices in Tesco but Aldi prices do seem to be staying stable tbf.
Nero Waitrose has always been dearer but not Tesco but they seem to have really gone up compared to before Covid Hmm
Most hope you are managing to sleep better and taking care of yourself sweetheart Flowers
Fluffy that promised rain hasn't come here either yet , you are right about the BBC weather , Charlatons !
Crazy hope you enjoyed your walk it was sunny till bout 3 then it went overcast & colder but no rain !
Woolly hugs have appealled for us to vote for them in the British Knitting & crochet awards 2020 Smile

NoWordForFluffy · 08/06/2020 23:31

I hope both Biddy and Woolly get the necessary treatment ASAP. I know how awful it is being in pain.

Mrs, Weds is the alleged rain day here. We shall see!

Crazy, it wasn't quite that much rain! It would be funny watching somebody do that though. 😂😂

Did you go for your walk? I hope you enjoyed it.

I've been cross stitching at a pace! I want to get the baby sampler done so I know it's ready when needed!

My mum loved the coo. I might have to do another one for her this year!

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 09/06/2020 06:04

I so hope Biddy and Woolly are out of pain soon!

Another good night although I woke up before DS for once.

I am so so hoping my elephant cross stitch arrives today, I need it to help me relax. The one I have on the go at the moment I find too complicated to be relaxing.
