Xmas Grin

I do like "CarShare" but Sian's voice goes right through me like glass, I grimace when she squeaks (I must be part bat with Super Sonic hearing Grin )

WreckTangled · 04/06/2020 11:18

Nothing yet. I'll be equally disappointed and relieved if it's a no Grin

WreckTangled · 04/06/2020 12:14

I didn't get the job. Ah well can look forward to the summer holidays now Grin

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 04/06/2020 12:38

Sorry to hear that wreck :(

Just ordered DS' school uniform Shock

BiddyPop · 04/06/2020 14:58

Sorry to hear that Wreck

WreckTangled · 04/06/2020 15:00

It's fine I really don't mind. I'm quite happy plodding along in my nice term time job. Made up with my manger so all is ok.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 04/06/2020 15:57

Hi folks, managed to locate you all.

Shame about the job but pleased you are ok with that Wreck.

My vacuum cleaner is naff in my view, I have a Dyson Animal.

I had my appraisal the other day and it was really good. My boss thinks I should go for being a mental health nurse or a social worker but not sure really.

WreckTangled · 04/06/2020 15:59

That's great why are you thinking of doing an apprenticeship for it? Out of the two I would probably go for the mental health nurse, one of our heath visitors used to be a mental health nurse.

NerosFiddle · 04/06/2020 17:30

Wreck I always say what's meant for you, won't pass you.

Why is that something that you'd like to do?

I was looking at trying to get into medical school next year but due to having 2 dc I don't think it's going to be viable.

Most I was going to order ds uniform too but I might leave it till closer to September in case he has a growth spurt.

70 and boots I think I'll watch more carshare tonight or gavin and Stacey. It really lifted me yesterday.

I've been looking at holidays to Florida again today. I know someone who owns a villa there that would give us a good rate. It's still looking at costing £3k for flights and accommodation for 2 weeks and then there would be spending money on top of it.

Does anyone here do a thanksgiving dinner? I think @BiddyPop might. I was thinking of doing it this year. A sort of pre Christmas without the expectation.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 04/06/2020 18:28

If I did decide to follow either path Wreck and Nero I would probably go for an apprenticeship. I would need to do an a level equivalent or an Access course first though, and I am not sure I am up for it all at this stage of my life. I think I may have been out of the educational route for too long, but having a think about it.

WreckTangled · 04/06/2020 18:31

You could do the nursing associate apprenticeship then go on to do the additional course for nursing. I don't think you'd need the access course then? Definitely worth thinking about I know how you feel though, I'm not sure I would have it in me to study for four years now. One of life's biggest regrets is not doing it when I was younger but there you go.

Dh is pissing me off tonight.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/06/2020 18:44

Sorry about the job, Wreck. But at least you're not too bothered by it! Who held the olive branch out, you or your manager?

Boots, no butt improvement here. But we've not really had much rain since yesterday.

Neros, if you want to go to Disney then there's all sorts of restrictions on getting tickets at the moment. When were you thinking of going?

Biddy definitely does a Thanksgiving dinner.

Why, I don't know if I could be arsed with that much study now. But bearing in mind we have to work until we die, you'd have a good few years' work post-qualification. Have to weigh it up.

I've just been to the allotment to put canes in for the kids' beans and peas. The beans needed support before the wind starts. I also had 4 more to put in the ground.

It was cold. My Raynauds kicked in as soon as I got there. Then tying twine was a challenge!

NerosFiddle · 04/06/2020 19:29

Mrs what film are you going to watch? Dc only want to watch Toy story 4 at the minute.

Fluffy I wouldn't be going to Disney until 2022/23. I would have to save up for it first. I'm hoping that the thing we won't speak of will be consigned to the history books.

I think that I could go back to education but I couldn't do uni again, and work and look after dc.

BiddyPop · 04/06/2020 19:32

Afternoon all, I was back into the office (my “old” one, the HQ) today as my boss and I had to physically sign various docs in person, so slightly frantic day. But productive!! And I managed to sneak out on my lunch break (at 4pm!) to the big M&S food hall nearby, where I went slightly overboard (but knew I had freezer space! And likely won’t be back for another 2 months at least...).

Speaking of M&S, that’s the reason I normally manage thanksgiving - they tend to have turkey bread roasts around then that work for an after-work TK dinner, as it doesn’t take all day. Just chuck it in for an hour with some roast potatoes and roasted root veg or a roasted squash/pumpkin, and some green beans boiled at the last minute. My beans are usually a bag I’ve frozen from the garden in the summer. I even did it for a neighbours gathering in 2018, after a full day at work, as DH was away. But couldn’t get the turkey last year - and missed it. (I don’t generally do 4th July so it’s the 1 time of year I say that I’m a Yank).

Unwinding with a glass of wine before one final meeting at 8pm. I’m looking forward to seeing my bed tonight!!

Mrsmadevans · 04/06/2020 20:45

I recorded Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on Sunday Nero am going to put it on after Springwatch Smile

Mrsmadevans · 04/06/2020 20:47

Biddy those M & S Turkey breast roasts are yummy , we have one now and again . No bones ! Dh loves them because they are so easy to carve as well as being scrummy lol Grin

FireflyGirl · 04/06/2020 21:10

Thanks for suggestions and offers, everyone. DSis dropped a load of DS's/DN's baby toys then skipped joyously back up the drive so I'll have a rootle through and see if there's anything suitable. I suppose it won't matter if it has to wait until it's older to play with them. There should be some nice Christmas things in there as well, that I bought for (October born) DN Grin

Sorry about the job, Wreck.

why DH is a clinical psychologist, and works with social workers and mental health nurse, so if you've got any questions, I can ask him?

WreckTangled · 04/06/2020 21:16

Ooo interesting fire can you ask him why some people bil decide to no longer adhere to the rules because (and I quote) 'none of those in Hyde park are...the kids are in bigger groups than 6 at school' yet some people (us Halo) will continue to do what is asked of us? Grin dh and I have been discussing how interesting it is that different people react so differently. Dd would probably call the police on herself if she broke the rules so she clearly takes after me.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 05/06/2020 06:56

My daughter is taking things very severely Wreck. She has OCD, dyslexia and is definitely on the autistic spectrum but she is furloughed from work and if she spots a breach of the rules she sends me a text bless her.

pussycatinboots · 05/06/2020 07:07

☔☔Raining again Grin
Wreck I'm laughing at the idea of your DD reporting herself Grin such an honest child.
fluffy the raised beds are coming on, what else do the kids have planned? More peas that will never make it home? Wink
Colder last night, so DH was back to 2 duvets - a total of 24tog 🥵

NoWordForFluffy · 05/06/2020 07:21

Morning!

Woke up to a whoosh of rain, but I think it was one of those short downpours! It seems to be raining lightly though. The forecast has changed since 23.30 when we had a long dry spell in the middle of the day. It's now wet all day with 50mph winds. Glad I don't have to go anywhere!

Boots, I may have an improved butt update later! 😂

The kids have peas, beans, carrots and lettuce in the beds DD found an ancient pack of spinach seeds and put that in. DS put sweetcorn in and has had a cracking germination rate!

How does any have 24 tog?! 😓 I'd die. We have 4 all year!

Our two are quite strict on the rules, though not hugging their grandparents was really upsetting, so they've started to do that. I'm the only one going to shops, so we have decided it's low risk and their mental health is more important.

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 05/06/2020 07:42

I think there's times when you can risk assess and make a decision that's outside of the rules safely. I just don't get the 'well everyone else is doing it so I will too' mentality.

Day off today. Tesco delivery coming (and one booked for next week!). Might take the dc to get cake (take away). Dd wants to meet a friend in the village but I'm not sure it's not exactly nice weather...

Ds is newly obsessed with the ice age films.

I'm feeling festive today!

NoWordForFluffy · 05/06/2020 07:44

Butt update: not yet filling. But this rain is quite steady so fingers crossed the levels will improve through the day.

My coo is almost-done. Just a horn and a bit of detail stitching to do! So I'll be on to my new one this weekend.
