Morning. Welcome to our new thread.

We maybe have rain today. I really hope we do! I have no ides when we last had it.

I'm baking with the kids today plus potting some plants on. Exciting. No idea where they'll go, mind you!

Only 2 days left of furlough. Yaaay for the financial side and booooo otherwise! 😂

Onsie days are the best I'm currently wearing this one it's great for days like this Smile

WreckTangled · 22/05/2020 09:25

It's boiling here. I'm sweating loads having just hoovered

pussycatinboots · 22/05/2020 13:08

Nero Glad she's ok today. Bear
NDN is still doing hair✂ 🤷🏻‍♀️she's a bloody carer too.
Lovely and windy here. DH hates wind, but I love it (and rain). He's wired up now for 72 hrs so can't shower but can have half a bath🛁...[clothes peg emoji]
Mrs can't he order some online? He'll just have to manage or maybe he should get his family to buy some.
fluffy love the "butt updates", sounds like you need more precipitation - if DH was checking like you are, I'd sneak out in the middle of the night and fill them with the hosepipe WinkGrin
70 were the neighbours impressed? Are you going to audition for BGT (other embarrassing/exhibitionist programmes are available) Grin

pussycatinboots · 22/05/2020 13:53

Mrs The other thing (about Bob and his lack of shoes) He's not going out...why does he need shoe??

WreckTangled · 22/05/2020 13:55

I had a kfc. Was pretty good. Nice treat for the dc

CrazyBaubles · 22/05/2020 14:18

How was the queue Wreck?

I feel like a zombie today. We had a power cut (there were apparently around 750 houses without power). It started at 3am and made a lot of alarms go off. Power came back on at 9 but flicked back on and off a few times throughout so we barely slept. Between the alarms and the heat without the fan we kept nodding off and waking up 😩

I've been to Iceland and the pharmacy, cleaned and am now about to relax for an hour with crochet and my audiobook (which I'm really enjoying).

WreckTangled · 22/05/2020 14:48

Drove straight in!

FireflyGirl · 22/05/2020 15:49

Is that the Michelle Obama one, Crazy?

I've had to go retrieve two panels off the greenhouse out of the front garden already! I daren't open the back door, everything goes flying!

DS started as he meant to go on. He's been wanting my attention more than usual all day, and this afternoon has refused to do any school work. We're reading together (the Usborne Puzzle books - anyone remember those?) but other than that he just wants to sit in front of the TV which isn't like him. Think this is how he's coping at the moment - I did notice his comfort teddy has been joining us downstairs the last couple of weeks, when it's barely left the bedroom since DS stopped napping at nursery.

WreckTangled · 22/05/2020 15:59

Ah firefly poor ds hope he's ok.

It's very windy isn't it? Still really warm and sunny here though.

I've been to collect my food shopping (even got self raising flour! So carrot cake is on the menu tomorrow) and then to kfc. Have cleaned the kitchen, hoovered the whole house and had a video conference with someone who's going to help sort out the whole mess at work. She wasn't happy with my manager but I said I didn't want that to go any further, I just want them to look into the policy properly as so far everyone has noted that it's not right but no one has taken any responsibility for it.

The wind keeps setting someone's car alarm off it's v annoying.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 22/05/2020 16:10

The wind is horrific and has toppled my mini greenhouse again despite it being weighed down a lot more this time. I think it is beyond help this time but at least only one plants was really injured. It also took my poppy which was just about to flower and I am gutted about that :( Scared for everything in my garden to be honest as it is supposed to get worse tomorrow. Have staked down my grozone with BBQ skewers and it has two big grobags at the bottom so am hoping will be ok! Need to screw my Veg Trug frame in, willl get DH to do it as soon as he finishes his work frame, that will then be fine at least. My outside tomatoes are in a less windy part of the garden and not too tall yet so hoping they will be ok. My peas have come off their sticks but are ok so once the wind is gone will reattach them. Am really hoping that things will be a bit blown down but not killed. Has made me a bit tearful today though.

Hope everyone else's gardens manage ok!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/05/2020 16:53

Ahh Sad FireflyDS it is tough at the moment , everyone in limbo.
Even the prospect of a Bank Holiday isn't met with a Yeahhh and planning shopping and nice food .

I went to M&S and the bank today . Town centre was fairly busy ( I haven't been there since before Lockdown)
It really did have a Zombie Apocalypse feek it it .

You'll be glad to hear I did not jeopardise house prices in my street by dancing to them Bangin' Ibiza Ministry of Sound tunes . I resisted . (I didn't fancy winding up in A&E trying to explain just how I dislocated something )

Ordered a mandoline (sharp slicey bladey thing) not a mandolin (as in Captain Corelli) though come to think it it , I could've joined in the Ibiza Anthems .......................

pussycatinboots · 22/05/2020 17:16

70 a mandoline? You're still going to end up in A&E unless you're v careful Shock

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/05/2020 17:25

It's an Oxo Goodgrips one ( I looked on their website and realised I have a load of their products - and they are very functional, sturdy, no faff items)

There's a holder for the food that's being sliced which will (hopefully) protect my fingers .
Plan to slice up some potatoes and oven bake them (layered with something - not my own skin though Xmas Grin )

Mrsmadevans · 22/05/2020 17:36
Crazy l have just finished listening to this, it was excellent and my cup of tea exactly Smile
Mrsmadevans · 22/05/2020 17:38

God l can't stand Priti Patel she makes my hackles rise grrrrrr
Boot found a pr of trainers for Bob on his house , he has a bad toe which l dress every day and his shoes are uncomfortable don't ask Grin

Mrsmadevans · 22/05/2020 17:43

Nero they are obivious , you hit the nail right in the head !
Glad Dd is better today bless her Flowers
70 I DON'T LIKE MANDOLINS or cheese graters ShockGrin
Most the wind has been wild as hell here, am sorry re your Poppy they are lovely Smile
My Dh has been confined in the garage moving stuff about the place in the pretence of tidying it up. He did find my Brexit stash of Tinned Chopped tomatoes though well done Dh!

Mrsmadevans · 22/05/2020 17:50

Wreck yay to SR flour and lovely treat for the Dc and you for KFC YUMMY !
Glad you are getting help for your work problem too , it needs sorting Flowers
Fire AHHH bless Ds Flowers
Dh is just going to cook us bacon and eggs , l am looking forward to it Grin

CrazyBaubles · 22/05/2020 17:53

Firefly it is. I have the documentary saved on Netflix to watch when I finished too. I find her a very inspiring lady.
Your poor ds. It must be so confusing for them.

Wreck have you received any response regarding the mileage issue at work?

most your poor poppy! The weather has been awful. We have heavy wooden doors that can be a pain to open but with the bedroom window open, the door has been pushing and pulling on the carpet so it must be bloody windy outside.

I'm a little bit disappointed in your lack of dance moves 70 😂

MrsMad I haven't braved radio dramas yet. I was convinced I wouldn't enjoy an audiobook because I hate when people read to me. I am a very fast reader and everyone else seems so slow but I'm enjoying it so willing to give radio dramas and podcasts a go.

I still feel like tired and have no patience today. One of the neighbours dc has been given a recorder and is out the back garden just blowing into it. No tune or even note changes, just one ongoing noise 😩 Why, just why??
Going to eat and see if that cheers me up. We're having hotdogs 🌭 😋

WreckTangled · 22/05/2020 18:17

Crazy the response was my manager telling me I should have asked more questions which is why I had a meeting today to take it further. If only to stop it happening to someone else in the future.

I'm having a healthy dinner to make up for my very unhealthy lunch!

NoWordForFluffy · 22/05/2020 18:48

Mrs, I've changed utility provider too. I always swap everything as soon as I can. Maximising cash back opportunities! It's been a bit hit and miss today. I kept getting cut off from clients, annoyingly.

70, I can't watch mandolines being used. They make me feel most ill! I wouldn't have one in the house; I like all of my fingers being intact!

Boots, just avoid DH for the duration. Or avoid being downwind!

Mrs, did you miraculously sort shoes? Have they not got the internet to use?

Crazy, I'd be sticking that recorder where the sun doesn't shine!

Most, our greenhouse had loads of panels blown out. Utter nightmare. Sorry about yours and your plants.

Wreck, I love a KFC. We've had emergency chippy tea as DH was fixing the aforementioned greenhouse. I had a Deliveroo discount voucher, thankfully! Enjoy the hotdogs, Crazy.

Firefly, I hope your DS is alright. It's tough on the little people, even if they don't say so.

Neros, I'm glad your DD is getting better.

My hairdresser laughed at my attempt at DS' hair! Boots / Neros some people are utter idiots to keep using them.

OP posts:
FireflyGirl · 22/05/2020 19:29

I've just checked the weather forecast, and it's 40mph+ winds again tomorrow. We've (only) lost two panels on the greenhouse, but the plants inside are being battered by the winds! DH is researching how to secure the panels better - we currently have batons, clips and silicon glue!

CrazyBaubles · 22/05/2020 20:03

Wreck so because you assumed the policy would be followed and didn't question it initially, your managers stance is that the issue is your fault? I really hope the outcome goes your way, that sounds so frustrating!

Fluffy Thankfully the parents clearly found the recorder as annoying as I did as I heard the dad confiscate it around half an hour ago.

I hope you and Firefly manage to repair and secure your greenhouses.

I'm feeling marginally better. The hotdogs were delicious 😋. I'm treating myself to a soothing hot bath now (I can't remember if I said that I fell when I was walking the dog yesterday and now have lovely bruising on my arm and bum and a sore hip and foot). I'm so clumsy!

WreckTangled · 22/05/2020 20:32

Exactly that crazy! Apparently I should have questioned it Hmm sorry that you fell and hurt yourself

Mrsmadevans · 22/05/2020 21:40

Crazy a lovely bath will ease those aches and pains, l love a nice warm bubble bath Smile I am so glad the father took the recorder off the child , l don't think l could have stood that either it would have driven me nuts Shock I didn't think l could stand being read to either but l think it is whoever is doing the reading/acting /voiceover and how good they are. I loved the one l listened to today . Am going to try this one next Smile

Wreck that tea looks lovely Smile Fluffy l ransacked Bob's house/'garage for shoes and found a pair of trainers that l got on him and hopefully they will be ok till we can take him to the shops in July . They haven't got any internet access there , he doesn't know how to use the internet , it's hopeless Grin Am with you re the Mandolins and Cheese graters blooming weapons of torture they are cringe Did everyone see the lovely gardens in The One Show and the adorable little boy who won the childrens garden ahhh he was just beautiful Smile
NoWordForFluffy · 23/05/2020 00:32

I need to go to sleep, but here's the countdown for today!

Mrs, Bob isn't going anywhere. He needs shoes as much as he needs his clothes ironing! Get him some cheap Tesco ones next time you go!

I've pushed on with the coo tonight. Most, how are the beach huts doing?

Firefly, DH used aluminium tape on ours. Hopefully it now stays together!
