Jingle those bells because it’s time for thread 1!

The aim of this thread is to share ideas for Christmas bargains and present ideas and a little bit of Christmas chat etc. I’ll try my best to do a post with the most popular links, if there’s anything specific you’d like me to add or if something I’ve put up doesn’t work please let me know in bold . Thank you

As usual no affiliate links (I’m still not exactly sure what they are but consensus was not to have them) and if we have any sites to post personal sign up links we’ll do this on a separate thread so all can post their links, I’ll do this when —I get around to it— soon.

@MamaRaisingBoys, you can either pay off straight away, or you can spread over 3 months with 'take 3' payment. You'll need to wait til they've credited the £30 before paying it off. It doesn't take long though.

Prices go up for the 3 for 2 anyway. It's sometimes cheaper to buy at offer price beforehand.

However

These Christmas bargain threads have been around at least 6/7 years now.

I would be very disappointed if mumsnet were to ‘intervene’.

As we all well know these threads are not for personal profit. If it is these posts are generally reported by other users

I am also cranky having had 3 hours of shit sleep after night shift. The same argument happens every year about affiliate links and I'd rather them than endless tedious place marking posts for the first 4 pages of every thread and the annual flurry of referral links which take up 3 straight pages until Reastie reminds everyone that there is a separate thread for those. And she does it far more politely than I would.

On the ebay discount thing, sellers can 'see' that people have viewed/watched their item and have the facility to send out offers to those who have viewed (they can't see who you are). It's not ebay itself sending the discount, it's the individual seller. It's a good shout if you want something but they have multiple or you're happy to play the long game.

On the eco theme, I've had success with wrapping in tea towels before - often found unused at car boots or charity shops but also on ebay. There are endless 'themes' so pretty easy to find one that matches the recipient or the present and of course it becomes a little handy extra.

I will be less grumpy when I return, promise.

Thank you for thread. I always mean to get on it but by the time I think about it you are several threads in and I lose track. This year I need to be super organised so thought I'd check if it had started and you where only 2 days in so I'm all caught up

Mama I opened an account with them last year as they had £50 cashback offer. I got a Nintendo Switch and went through Topcashback to get another £30ish back. I checked and just paid the balance (cost -minus £50) and paid zero interest. Be warned though it took me 3 attempts to close the account.

@woodwaj I posted this pic the other day? Type ‘advent’ into the search bar and they come up. Asos were doing extra 15% off sale the other day and they did an extra 20% off everything last night for 2 hours only.

mama I usually do the take 3 and set up a direct debit, then there's no interest. it's worth keeping the account afterwards, they send me several offers per year when my account is paid off or v low. and was handy when our freezer broke and we needed a new one so could do it over 9 months interest free.

@woodwaj I actually was looking for some 2019 advent calendars and saw the asos one on cosmopolitan I think last week. Checked again and this link here has a look at quite a few more 2019 calendars and the ASOS one is there too if you scroll down. £70 though but I’m hoping I can use one of the 20% student codes on it that I get from dd1 (can’t remember if they allowed you to do that last year or not)

I've just got John Lewis to price match the Porsche lego that was out of stock in Argos....just a thought for those struggling to get some in Argos stores.

Still on the lookout for reputable places for hoverboards (we know the legal issues and will only be used on private land)
