2019 Christmas bargains thread 1

Reastie · 18/08/2019 07:26

Jingle those bells because it’s time for thread 1!

The aim of this thread is to share ideas for Christmas bargains and present ideas and a little bit of Christmas chat etc. I’ll try my best to do a post with the most popular links, if there’s anything specific you’d like me to add or if something I’ve put up doesn’t work please let me know in bold . Thank you

As usual no affiliate links (I’m still not exactly sure what they are but consensus was not to have them) and if we have any sites to post personal sign up links we’ll do this on a separate thread so all can post their links, I’ll do this when —I get around to it— soon.

Ripped off that should say.

Gatepost1820 · 21/08/2019 21:31

I thought mn automatically added affiliate links to websites posted on here or am I wrong?

Pixie2015 · 21/08/2019 21:31

Seen a few post have mentioned Aldi for children’s books whilst there tonight as special buy they had spa candles / diffusers in a plain white box (not the ones that are similar to a popular fragrance brand) they smelt lovely for £2.99 so got a couple to put away as stocking fillers

LikeSilver · 21/08/2019 21:42

@Catanddogmake6 Yes sorry I should have made that clearer! Definitely through eBay (and PayPal), I just had the notification of it via email.

Catanddogmake6 · 21/08/2019 21:48

Perfect then LikeSilver proper bargain!! Never had it with eBay although often find with Etsy if you leave it in your basket you get a code.

whatwillicallmyself · 21/08/2019 22:09

@IggyAce that's great the bigger the box the better more impact on Christmas morningSmile

imsorryiasked · 21/08/2019 22:16

Amazon have the Lego technic porsche 42096 for £65 (rather than £100+)

Sportycustard · 21/08/2019 22:26

I have lurked on these threads in previous years but don't usually have anything to add.

However I just spotted that the National Trust shop has started their summer sale. Currently some nice tea light users and food gifts. Might make good aunt / grandma gifts.

KisstheTeapot14 · 21/08/2019 22:28

marking place....

woodwaj · 21/08/2019 22:30

I really rated last years advent calendar from Debenhams I'm hoping they do a new version this year!

Jammiebammie · 21/08/2019 22:48

Mumsnet themselves use affiliate links, however users are not permitted to post affiliate links without permission. This comes up every year, last year I think mnhq came in and cleared it up a bit (I was accused of posting affiliate links by another poster once which I most certainly did not).

Look at Mumsnet terms of service here and at the bottom of the page there is a small paragraph:

Affiliate Advertising: Mumsnet carries some affiliate marketing links, which means we earn commission on sales of some products when users click through a link from the site. Our editorial content is NOT influenced by affiliate partnerships. You may not post affiliate links without the prior permission of Mumsnet.

Jammiebammie · 21/08/2019 22:49

woodwaj I bought dd the Debenhams advent last year for £35 and she loved it too. I love the look of the ASOS one this year for her so will be interested to see if what Debenhams one is like too.

getupgonow · 21/08/2019 23:41

@imsorryiasked - thank you! I know someone who will be very pleased with that!

Luxplus · 22/08/2019 06:17

@Mrsfussypants1 thanks. My dd2 woukd love that one Smile

TheFatberg · 22/08/2019 06:48

I trawled through and there was one link with "affiliate" in it - to the Book Depository.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/08/2019 06:55

You took one for the team there, @TheFatberg! Seems like a lot of fuss over one link!

Sometimes people have seen the deal elsewhere, followed the link from that page and just copied it across without realising. I've not got any suspicion that anybody here has a nefarious purpose!

BestofLuck · 22/08/2019 07:50

Blimey @IggyAce that boat does look a great deal. I’m torn now! It is ds’s 9th birthday in a few weeks, so this would go down very well. It’s deffo worth it would you say? Thanks also for the National Trust tip @Sportycustard. Will have a look for my nana.

ClosedAuraOpenMind · 22/08/2019 07:55

amazon has the instax mini cameras, which I think have been popular in the past, for £42.99 and £44.99 in the deal of the day section

Jerryboree · 22/08/2019 07:58

ritzbiscuit MN tracks clicks which is why you might think posts are affiliate links, especially on popular sites like Argos Amazon etc. Like I click show as 'skimresources' before redirecting to the product website.
Be careful with your accusatory tone because it puts people off posting. It happened to me on this thread last year (different name back then) it's unpleasant when 99% of posters here are just trying to help each other.

IggyAce · 22/08/2019 08:06

@BestofLuck it looks impressive, it’s a massive box, struggled to get it in the jumbo bag I shared earlier. If Your DS like mine is a Ninjago fan then he will love it.

margaritasbythesea · 22/08/2019 08:07

The Sylvanian Nursery Sunshine Bus is down to £15 on amazon. A best ever price according to Ccc.

Sorry my phone has done some kind of update during the night and I don't seem to be able to do links now Hmm

rarejuicegoose · 22/08/2019 08:17

Morning all, thank you @Reastie for starting the thread. I was very much a part of the thread a couple of years ago and the laughs I had were lovely. Always some amazing bargains as well.
I've been off Mumsnet for a while so have started a scratch just for this thread.

This year I'm going to be wrapping presents in brown paper with red ribbon. It's very cheap and eco friendly. eBay have 10m rolls for about £2.50.
Other who are trying to be more eco friendly but are also after a bargain sign yourself up to your local Freecycle page. I've have a bike off Freecycle before and a beautiful wooden pram.
Of course charity shops are always a winner plus gumtree, shpock and local Facebook selling sites.

As eco friendly as I'd like to be I have got soooo much to buy.

rarejuicegoose · 22/08/2019 08:21

Also have made a 'real' drs kits for ds 5, it's a pretty good idea for difficult to buy for boys and girls. So far his kit has got (all from eBay):
Stethoscope
Gloves
Sticky bandages
Surgeon face mask
Surgeon hat
Plastic tweezers
Metal kidney dish
An ID badge holder
Plastic syringe

MamaRaisingBoys · 22/08/2019 08:23

Hi, does anyone remember how the Very deal from last year works please? I’ve had an email offering £30 credit back to my account on a £60 spend if I open a credit account. Can I then just pay the balance off to avoid paying interest? Seems like a good deal if so!

Betsy86 · 22/08/2019 08:37

mrfussypants1 i was coming on to mention that bottle house also it does look good! It was £30/35 tuesday was chuffed to see it for £20 as you said its a new toy!

Argos have quite a few new dolls with money off the Baby born suprise is £25 and ‘The Bellies’ range are £22.50 in argos. £30 in smyths.
I was going to wait for argos 3 for 2 but think i might just get a few bits now as normally i wait for 3 for 2 and often something i want isn’t in stock. Plus im impatiet and dont know when the next argos offer is Grin x
