Nothing goes up here until 1st Dec - little real tree outside front door is the first thing - but I do enjoy seeing other people's trees and decorations - once it's November anyway. Anything to brighten up the dark and dismal days!

And I hate it when it all has to come down after 12th Night - God knows January is dreary enough anyway.
I just don't understand people who take their tree etc.down on Boxing Day or soon after.

lucysmam · 02/11/2019 19:42

@Therunecaster have fun! I'm starting putting bits out over the next few weeks but need someone to get in the loft for the tree etc :(

Therunecaster · 02/11/2019 19:46

I've managed to fight my way to the back of the junk cupboard and find all the decorations. Can't wait to start putting them up tomorrow. I just bought a light up sausage dog decoration from Asda. May put it outside now to wind the neighbours up!

I saw my first tree up in a house window last night and thought OMG what a nutter.

@theruncaster... you're right up there with them! Enjoy Grin

HeronLanyon · 02/11/2019 19:49

I am currently about to see if I can pull the snaps out of crackers so I can take them secretly on flight as I’ll be away at Christmas. Also packing foldable small paper decorations. Was going to be all bah humbug as first proper Christmas after my mum died but I seem to have succumbed a bit ! And early preparations too !

SaddleGhost · 02/11/2019 20:04

Ah that's nice! I wouldn't put them up this early but I'm glad you do and don't care what people think. It's ridiculous that anyone cares what happens in other people's houses.

I usually put ours up on December 1st but I have a 1 year old now and he ruins everything so I don't know what I'm going to do! Quite stressed thinking about it, I don't want to wait until the day beforeSad

sohypnotic · 02/11/2019 21:22

SaddleGhost - use gardening wire to secure baubles to the tree. It's fiddly and time consuming, but this method has protected my extensive glass bauble collection for 8 years from my two cats, and also survived my 1 year old last year too.

FrankenCat · 02/11/2019 21:40

Merry Christmas @Therunecaster !

NoWordForFluffy · 02/11/2019 22:50

@SaddleGhost, playpen round the tree. Tree is in jail, small child can't get near. Sorted!

SaddleGhost · 02/11/2019 23:00

Thank you @NoWordForFluffy & @sohypnotic great tipsSmile

bloodywhitecat · 03/11/2019 10:04

@Birdie6 isn't it Remembrance Day the 11th and not yesterday?

I am really looking forward to Christmas this year, we have a nearly three year old in the house and after years and years of adult children it is lovely to see Christmas through the eyes of a child again.

Youngatheart00 · 03/11/2019 10:08

Would rather have the decorations up very early than leave them out too late! Tree down on New Year’s Day or by exception (hangover) 2nd Jan.

I would be tempted to put mine up Mid Nov but as we get a real tree it would likely be in a poor state by the big day.

As we tend to go away to family for Christmas itself it’s nice to enjoy a festive house for a good few weeks.

whattodo2019 · 03/11/2019 10:27

I too love Christmas but not in November.
Why do you feel the need to start so early?

Therunecaster · 03/11/2019 10:51

Ands it's up...

I’ve enjoyed this thread. Whatever makes you happy!
If I had my way I’d wait until mid December but these days I’m doing well to hold out against the dc until the 1st.
They would LOVE me to put them up now.

Therunecaster · 03/11/2019 11:08

I put them up because it makes me happy. I love the lights on a evening and I have a laugh with friends because it's so early. I'm making a Christmas dinner later and the kids love it.

Good for you Op!

Constantbronchitislaryngitis · 03/11/2019 11:12

So funny!
I was brought up to put the decorations up on Christmas Eve (Scotland )
I usually put them up around 20th and my friend puts them up on dec 1st
Mind you I’ve been known to leave the tree up until March before as I couldn’t move on emotionally from the love of Christmas 😂😂😂😂

FadingStar · 03/11/2019 11:43

😂😂 You're good fun OP. I like people who do joyful things despite all the moaning minnies.

BoswellsBollocks · 03/11/2019 11:47

I’d love to put mine up but it’s a bit too early for me. I’m off work this week though so definitely planning on having a Christmas movie and mince pie binge 🎄

Arrowfanatic · 03/11/2019 15:21

I couldnt put mine up this early, kids & cats would wreck it. But I'm excited to put it up. Its always a juggle to find a day wheb DH is home & this year has the extra juggle of me working now too. I expect it'll be 1st or 8th Dec.

CoolShoeshine · 03/11/2019 15:35

I’d be bored of them by December if I put them up now

donttellmetwice · 03/11/2019 15:38

Love it!!! 🎄

Greyhound22 · 03/11/2019 16:23

Why are miserable people coming on the Christmas board and being Grinches or taking the piss out of people?

I've been on two threads today - this one and one about Christmas Eve boxes and do people not realise it's the Christmas section?

I'm putting my tree up 21st November - it's normally the first week of December but I'm having a hysterectomy the 22nd so won't be able to put it up (read scared I won't come back to see it again). I don't give a fuck what any miserable sods think about it. I've had a miserable year and I like Christmas.

Good on you OP - I'm just watching Christmas with the Kranks and DS has got penguin pyjamas on 😳

babygrootandstarlord · 03/11/2019 16:32

We put ours up this weekend too!!! I usually take down before NYE and definitely don't get sick of it. The kids love it. Enjoy your tree! Merry Christmas!
