I think I may be just very early, but I need to know!

OP posts:
WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit · 08/11/2018 12:00

I am looking at those extreme robots live tickets and cannot work out the pricing.

VIP adult ticket is £30, VIP child £28, but VIP family which admits 2 adults and 2 children is also £28. How does that work?

1122christy · 10/11/2018 06:36

Thanks grumblebumble I ended up buying him a similar hexbug robotwars thing in the Argos 342. But will be keeping an eye out for any live shows too

MeTigger · 10/11/2018 07:01

Great thread! My dp loves F1 and would really like a garage to do ‘projects’ in (he’s a fan of wheeler dealers and car sos). We don’t have a garage and won’t have one for a couple of years- any suggestions?

sulflower · 10/11/2018 07:24

Last year we decided just to buy a couple of small gifts each and treat ourselves to a long weekend in a nice hotel so doing the same this year. But I'm loving the wallet ninja, the times that could have come in handy are countless! Got some great ideas from this thread 👍🏻

boomshacka · 10/11/2018 15:05

@WhoGivesADamnForAFlakeyBandit

The family option you have to buy 4. There is no option to buy 1 ticket at that price.

Hope that makes sense

zucchinieggplant · 11/11/2018 19:10

Whogivesadamn thank you for the velvetiser review! It does seem like a lot of money for something so simple...yet I think I going to get one for DH. I know he really likes hot chocolates and would def drink more if he had a gadget, plus he currently drinks the horrible "just add water" stuff so reckon this would be a proper treat.

Everincreasingfrequency · 14/11/2018 13:25

Defensive jingling -
"Also, what books are people buying that aren't murder mysteries? He likes archeological history but I've already done Homo Sapiens and Homo Deus"

"Guns germs and steel" - is not quite the same but might be interesting for him.

Stefoscope · 15/11/2018 00:32

I contemplated the velvetiser for DP, but thought it may become more of a present for me, as he seems to think white chocolate options is the best thing since sliced bread! Instead I went for a practical - plain black waterproof coat (to hopefully replace the one he's attempted to unsuccessfully superglue up for the past year). And a couple of things for his hobby (a dice rolling tower and paintbrush cleaner preserver). Diamond whiskey glasses and a key tracking device (nut I think) went down well last year for his brother's gifts, if that helps anyone equally as clueless as to what to get the men in their life.

shinny · 15/11/2018 06:44

So far Ive got my DH a torch set from pound shop
nice scarf, Christmas jumper from H&M (all other ones were too naff or had inbuilt lights), cool water bottle for bikers with towel inside, snowflake puzzle from M&S, Lego London set, and Grid-it organiser.

Ugg slippers one year for DF went down well and usually send some kind of plant to FIL.

Great thread for ideas!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 15/11/2018 12:23

@Stefoscope where did you get the paintbrush preserver? I am really struggling for DH, am avidly watching this thread but still struggling! He keeps promising to get more into DIY so am thinking of a bundle of things which would be useful things should he ever get round to it!

HildaTablet · 15/11/2018 12:27

I guess it depends which branch happens to have stock, but my local TKMaxx has had those Mahabi slippers at an enormous discount for a few weeks. Mostly in large men's sizes!

Stefoscope · 15/11/2018 16:49

Rocking - I found the brush preserver on e-bay, it's called 'The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver'. It comes in a very small pot (1oz I think), so not sure it would be much good for larger decorating brushes.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 15/11/2018 19:38

Thank you @Stefoscope

GreyGardens88 · 15/11/2018 20:10

Some Illy coffee, a pair of those heat retainer socks. Not sure what else to get, maybe some cologne or something

umberellaonesie · 15/11/2018 20:49

@Cwornwall73
Landsend for big men smart jumpers.
Get the tall versions if they are over 5'10

AliceRR · 15/11/2018 20:55

So far I’ve onky got boring gifts for my DH - a jumper, socks, a charger and I think that’s it but need something more exciting!

Got my dad and brother a jumper each too. But nice jumpers...

MinorProphet · 15/11/2018 21:01

I love the online shop Present Indicative for the men in my life. I get all sorts of great things on there - map of the world hankie, go away I'm reading socks, 120 sided die. And Flightstore, which is aviation themed gifts including helicopter cookie cutters.

Flooffloof · 16/11/2018 13:24

Got two men to buy for Christmas followed by two birthdays in January. Same men.
So DH has this t shirt www.redbubble.com/people/blazesavings/works/32187879-it-took-me-50-years-to-look-this-good-birthday-gift?grid_pos=26&p=classic-tee&rbs=86929e3e-9fe1-4bad-a749-b6e141cb9d11&ref=shop_grid&searchTerm=It took 50

And beard baubles and some cycling gear. Still need more?
D'S has some t-shirts from www.qwertee.com/shop

Am thinking for DH a photo of 4 generations caricatured here facedoodled.com

Still need more yet.

Flooffloof · 16/11/2018 15:26

Oh and for other people but maybe useful for anyone's husbands possibly but Sadly not mine

justtypicalme · 16/11/2018 16:25

Love this thread! Any recommendations for "bean to cup" coffee machines? DP has requested one but I have no idea what to look for [i'm not a coffee drinker!]

Cornwall73 · 17/11/2018 06:32

Thanks Unbrella. Ended up getter by a nice lambs wool jumper from M&S. They do very large sizes and a long version too (one of the bils is certainly over 6ft) so that should do it and if not he has options to get a different size.

Girlsworld92 · 17/11/2018 06:59

Yay. Been hoping to see this thread!
So far I have got
Men's Clinique face wash gift set from boots (he has be sensitive skin so thought worth a try)
Milton brown body wash just ordered as they've currently got free delivery & gift boxes included
Chocs
On my list to sort is
Beerbods subscription
Socks
PJs
Maybe some nice winter gloves or a new leather belt.

ER1212 · 17/11/2018 07:13

Mines getting
Hybrid smartwatch - got an excellent deal in the sale from Skagen
Cycle helmet which he's asked for
Aftershave
Sweets and things for stocking
Christmas daddy pig boxers from new baby!

IStillMissBlockbuster · 17/11/2018 07:16

fairfax, I have the same problem with DH. My solution has been to ban him from buying himself ANYTHING from about October onwards every year! Anything he wants can be bought by me or his mum, my mum, his siste, my sister etc. Then he has to wait for it and inevitably is much happier to receive it than if he just bought it himself.

HermioneN · 17/11/2018 07:30

Mine's getting a Flouren 500a and the set up to run our camping lights from a battery.

I don't know what either of these are or where to get them, I've asked my dad...
