OP posts:
malificent7 · 06/11/2018 04:58

I'm getting mine a shiatsu massage car seat ( bad back) and an experience of some sort. Will probably get him some posh chocs too.

citychick · 06/11/2018 05:08

Swimming lessons. I've told him he's going!

He lov d the Paul Smith socks I bought him last year.

umpteennamechanges · 06/11/2018 06:12

DH is getting:

  • Pack of different posh nut snacks (loves them)
  • Hot chilli sauces (probs from a farmers market or similar)
  • Tickets to see Bon Jovi
  • Something from his list to Santa which is mainly ridiculously expensive crap stuff related to Star Wars (£250 lightsaber anyone?)
  • Ted Baker pants and socks (standard)

DFiL is getting:

  • Port (every year)
  • Cheese selection (from some artisan somewhere or other)
  • Molton Brown shower gel
  • A waterproof camera backpack he's asked for
  • His favourite fruit jellies from M&S
  • A bottle of Kingston Black apple cider aperitif (apple cider mixed with apple cider brandy - absolutely delicious!)

DStepF is getting:

  • A book on whittling things out of wood (kind of thing he likes)
  • Lambs navy rum
  • Stilton cheese (his fave, thinking of getting from Fortnum & Mason to make it present worthy)
  • Plain black socks (only type he wears but he's very picky so usually expensive ones)
  • Bottle of English sparkling wine to share with DM (we have an award winning winery down the road from us so that's easy!)

Also thinking of getting him this gym towel...

SnugglySnerd · 06/11/2018 09:30

So far dh is getting a NASA t shirt and a kindle after years of admiring mine.
I was also get him chocolate (any sort, he isn't choosy), beer (he is choosy) and some nice shower or bath stuff.
Great thread for ideas. I need to decide what to get for my dad.

Bluebell9 · 06/11/2018 14:59

I'm getting DP a biltong cutter. I got him a biltong maker last year which he loves.

Previous hits have been Lavazza Coffee machine and matching milk frother.

firefire · 06/11/2018 23:16

Thanks for the thread. Off to check out robowars tickets and the wallet ninja.

Last year I got the morries beer advent calendar. This year a beerbots subscription

defensivejingling · 06/11/2018 23:33

I have about £15 to spend on my father but he doesn't want chocolate, alcohol, clothes, or hobby gifts (so no gardening). He wants a supermarket gift card but I'd like something to go with it.

He loves meat but shouldn't have too much salt. Any ideas?

Also, what books are people buying that aren't murder mysteries? He likes archeological history but I've already done Homo Sapiens and Homo Deus

HildaTablet · 06/11/2018 23:47

I've bought these tiny Bluetooth speakers for a man who's hard to buy for. They're not much bigger than Nespresso capsules but surprisingly good! You can use them as a speaker when you're making phone calls too.

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 07/11/2018 00:01

@BreadAndButterDreamer Matalan had some novelty ducks.

PickAChew · 07/11/2018 00:04

Haven't a bloody clue. Considered a multimeter for his recent birthday, but he bought himself a new one e, anyhow

tigercub50 · 07/11/2018 00:08

What’s a velvetiser?
I find DH very difficult to buy for but this year he’s really got into his cycling so I’ll get him whatever he wants connected to that.

defensivejingling · 07/11/2018 00:16

Hawkins Bazaar has a Retro Footballers Top Trump for £5.

I bought them today with a 10% discount which might have expired at midnight but they've often got a discount going

bluetissuepaper · 07/11/2018 00:16

Some fab ideas here, I think my kids need the velvetiser....

FairfaxAikman · 07/11/2018 08:23

DH thinks he's easy to buy for but he'd not. Half the problem is anything I think of he then goes and buys himself.

He's also not a "typical" bloke and has some niche geeky hobbies.

So far I've got him some Bawbags boxers (caution: may contain nuts) and his usual T shirt (I'm slowly trying to replace all the holey ones he insists on having) but I'm stuck for a main present.

Will scroll back and hopefully they'll be some ideas on the thread.

AlphaJuno · 07/11/2018 09:55

Mines a builder so he's always happy with tools, things he uses all the time like drill bits, Stanley blades, sanding discs etc. Will probably get him some clothes and boxer shorts aswell.

PiggeryPorcombe · 07/11/2018 10:29

Dh is getting;

Superdry tshirts
Molton Brown shower gel
Car washing foam cannon tool thing
Cinema tickets
Scampi fries on a pub cardboard thing
Poss pork scratchings as above

Great thread as always.

nozzel · 07/11/2018 21:10

This thread was invaluable to me last year, this is a place marking post.

My DH loves his wallet ninja.

AdoraBell · 07/11/2018 21:59

My DH is difficult to buy for, especially this year as he’s feeling depressed.

I’ve bought him the following-
lightweight body warmer to under a particular jacket
bootle of port
Scarves, again for that jacket
Fancy scented shower gel

The scarves and smellies are officially from the DC.

StrumpersPlunkett · 07/11/2018 22:10

@ladybee a couple of years ago I arranged 12 dates for dh and I because the main thing we lack as a couple is time together.
I booked punting
Picnic in the park
Restaurant bookings
Theatre
music
and comedy tickets
He and I both loved it and the overall cost was about the same as I would normally spend.

Cornwall73 · 08/11/2018 05:56

Good thread this!
DH is a real foodie so normally gets recipe books but this year I’m getting him a voucher for a cookery class by one of his favourite authors and a salmon curing kit. Pants and socks and chocs as standard.he also wants a new rucksack for work.

Last year he got given by other family members:

  • Sock subscription
  • Cheese shop voucher
  • Male grooming voucher
  • razor subscription
Cornwall73 · 08/11/2018 05:57

Anyone know where I can get nice jumpers for the larger man? BILs have asked for smart jumpers but one of them is XXL!

ladybee28 · 08/11/2018 09:06

@StrumpersPlunkett That's fab. I honestly think the best gifts I get are experiences that I get to look forward to – I know not everyone's the same but I love waking up Boxing Day and knowing the best is still to come!

Also, gifts for him that are also for you? THIS is how we do it.

mmmgoats · 08/11/2018 09:58

Recommend the Mighty Mug on amazon - it’s a mug that somehow attaches to your desk and doesn’t spill and can’t be knocked over, but can be picked up very easily...

www.amazon.co.uk/Mighty-Mug-Go-Travel-Litre/dp/B00CPP8Z1O?tag=mumsnetforum-21

It says it’s a travel mug but we all use them on our desks so we don’t spill on laptops etc and it went down really well with all the menfolk who had great fun trying to knock it over

GrumbleBumble · 08/11/2018 10:09

1122christy

there are two different robot wars live tour things

www.robotslive.co.uk/

www.extremerobots.co.uk/live

  • I have checked both and no Scotland date in either but you can micro robot war in the comfort of your own home:

www.amazon.co.uk/Hexbug-413-5128-BattleBots-Arena/dp/B01BX4FL50/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hexbugs+arena&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1541671363&sr=8-1

We took my 7 year old and a friend to RobotsLive last year and it was fantastic.
