In addition to the freezer side of an American fridge/freezer I have a chest freezer in the garage that was bought to cope with the glut of apples from our tree in the garden last year. Luckily this year's harvest wasn't as good so I'm making space week by week (making apple crumble) and plan to fill it with a combination of party food and Armageddon Grin supplies in anticipation of a snowy winter. I live in walking distance of three supermarkets - it's done in hope rather than expectation 😂

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2017 20:49

I really want an American fridge freezer, but we just don't have the space to get one in. Boo!

We don't get much snow round these parts, so I'm not doing any Armageddon planning just yet!

ConstantlyCooking · 14/09/2017 20:51

I just saw the M&S link. The Camembert looks like something I will have to test ...

FireflyGirl · 14/09/2017 20:54

I'm just not brave enough to try it.

Dairy gives DH terrible tummy ache (amongst other symptoms), and it was that and the pained screaming when he was fed that highlighted there being an issue with DS.

We have dairy free stuff anyway for DH, and I don't eat dairy apart from cheese, no chance in hell I'm swapping that for the dairy free stuff, so it's no hardship.

DH's intolerance has been in waves. It made him ill as a small child, then as a teenager he could eat anything. Then he started being sensitive to it again probably due to the volume of takeaway pizza and ice cream he ate as a student. When I first met him, DH could eat dairy as long as it had been processed in some way - so in cakes, chocolate etc. Then a couple of years ago he started reacting to chocolate, and now he's sensitive to any amount.

FireflyGirl · 14/09/2017 20:57

I forgot to ask for no butter on DS's sandwich when he was about 18 months and we were having lunch out. I had to take him home wearing my jumper...

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2017 21:04

Dairy-free cheese is wrong! Just unbearable and salty!

DD is lactose intolerant, but can now tolerate anything, but she gets bunged up if she overdoes the dairy. She was a nightmare to feed and eventually stopped taking any milk at all at 4 months which is when she was diagnosed (we'd told the GP she was intolerant to something, but they kept treating the symptoms, not the cause. It was an A&E doctor who diagnosed her in the end).

In DS we recognised the symptoms and tried him on LF milk which didn't help, so the doctors knew to try him on CMP-free milk. He was only 8 weeks' old at diagnosis because we were listened to the second time.

Interesting about your DH, Firefly. I didn't know they could essentially recover but then relapse. Maybe there is a limited amount they should eat / drink after they recover.

We like Swedish Glacé. It's amazingly creamy for non-dairy. Apparently Ben & Jerry do a dairy free ice cream, though I've not seen it here yet.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2017 21:05

Oh god, Firefly! 💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

TheWoollybacksWife · 14/09/2017 21:06

That's really interesting @FireflyGirl - I'm very similar and people give me the Hmm face when I tuck into a chocolate biscuit after refusing a cheese sandwich.

When I was about 5 or 6 I started to be intolerant to butter, cheese and cream (it gives me migraine) and I don't really drink a lot of milk so I pretty much gave up all dairy products. I can have milk if it is hot - in porridge or on weetabix. Cheese in any form still makes me ill and I eat dry bread/toast. Ice cream and chocolate don't bother me so I assume whatever is done to the milk in those processes makes it safe for me to eat. I don't want my intolerances to worsen I love chocolate

Mrsmadevans · 14/09/2017 21:40

The Swedish Glace ice cream is gorgeous!
They did a taste test on C4 it was a series of the best tasting food around and the Vanilla Swedish Glace beat everything hands down!
I have tried the raspberry and the chocolate one. They are all delicious could not pick a favourite one .Daughter is vegan hence we try everything but she reckons the Alpro ice cream which comes in Vanilla , coconut and Hazelnut and chocolate is the bees knees lol . It is exensive but is on offer a lot of the time for 2 pounds a tub . Never seen the Ben & Jerry's dairy free either yet .
Fluffy you are so right re the cynical marketing !

SideOrderofSprouts · 15/09/2017 08:10

15 fridays till christmas

FireflyGirl · 15/09/2017 08:10

Does that mean you want us to stop talking about the evils of dairy Blush

I'm so excited. I was coveting the nutcracker globe from Matalan, but it hadn't come into stock. I got an email with money off on Tuesday, but only until the weekend. Then the globe came into stock this morning, so I've used my voucher and bought some extra little baubles as well. Yey Grin

MuddlingThroughLife · 15/09/2017 08:26

Looking forward to the new thread. My threads all seem to be losing my bookmarks and it takes ages to scroll through to the end of this one lol x 🎗

CbeebiesAddict · 15/09/2017 08:27

My friend has just messaged to say the full matalan range is now available!

MrsDilligaf · 15/09/2017 08:47
