annwithnoe funnily enough I had a look at plain brown paper this morning and was considering it. I know you can stamp it etc and there are some lovely Pinterest ideas so I may give it a go for the adult gifts. Think I want something bright and funky for children, but I can do that later.

One year I bought paper gift bags and let DD (who was two) paint them. Last year I bought reusable shopping bags and used those to reduce wrapping, but I kind of miss the pretty look under my tree.

I am ordering paper bags from eBay for stocking fillers- someone here suggested it last year and it was such a time saver. You can get red and white bags with either spots or stripes for around £2 on eBay.

Annwithnoe · 08/08/2017 20:27

cookiefiend do you have a link to those bags? That sounds like a brilliant idea!

vEGANvERA · 08/08/2017 20:38

paper bags sounds like the best idea ever!
i normally just lurk over here (all year lol) but i too have started shopping for christmas :)

as usual every time i lurk i shop. away to buy paper bags :)

christmasunicorn · 08/08/2017 20:47

I love the cereal advent calendar! I will buy it just for the joy of it each morning. Paper bags for stockings sounds genius! Please link

I started on my Christmas 2017 Pinterest board yesterday. It's currently full of diy candle jars so I'm now on a mission to save every glass jar between now and Christmas. Poor dh is rolling his eyes

AIMGA · 08/08/2017 20:50

Hello - slightly late to the thread.
Have just bought DD1 & 2 a Sylvanian hotel on eBay that will be their main father Christmas gift...now trying to hunt down some furniture to go with it. I have all the DC's bdays before Christmas too. Need to get busy.
Have started on homemade wreaths for in laws...!

Snausage · 08/08/2017 21:22

These threads make my day! My Christmas cupboard is filling up with gifts, but I still have DS's birthday to get past before I even think about wrapping. Glad I got wrapping paper in January, though!

The shopping happens all year but definitely ramps up between now and October. I wrote lists upon lists to try and organise myself and my diary is marked out for when to look for Santa's grotto tickets, when to send cards in the mail, family visits planned... The excitement is just too much!

I HAVE to be organised this year because I'm away on a training course in York the last week in November and first week in December.

Thank you all for making my day with your talk of festivities... Am feeling full of flu and rather miserable and stopping by has made me feel infinitely better Smile

FridgeCut · 08/08/2017 22:30

Chance I might be off my feet over christmas, and actually I am hoping that will be the case. Looks like I need an operation on my hip, but has to go through the orthopods meeting and then be booked so goodness knows when it might be, but christmas would almost be ideal as DH will be off.

Tickets are released for an event I really want to do on thursday, missed out the last two years so considering looking at the site at midnight tomorrow.

Frid · 09/08/2017 00:41

Just 5 adults to buy for this year, but I think it's going to be chocolate all round because I'm on a budget of £10 per person.

How do you jazz up cheap gifts?

Good morning! Lovely sunny day up in Glasgow! ☀️☀️

But...that autumnal crispness isn't too far away. And that makes me rather excited! 😁

As does the fact they're announcing Strictly contestants! 😂 I love a bit of Strictly. It's a proper autumn / countdown to Christmas programme! 💃🎅🎄

ThreeAfter30 · 09/08/2017 07:48

Thanks Wheely 😊morning!

Fluffy ive never watched strictly- am i missing out?? Lol

tootsieglitterballs · 09/08/2017 09:09

@Snausage if you are in York in November, you must visit the new Christmas shop , its beautiful! Opposite cath kidston, it's traditional German and full of things you need a second mortgage for to buy! York is my favourite place at Christmas!

Snausage · 09/08/2017 09:19

Thanks for the heads up, @tootsieglitterballs! I don't know York very well, but will be staying near the station. I have no idea where the Cath Kidston shop is but will find it! I am excited to be in York so close to Christmas!

Minster2012 · 09/08/2017 09:35

Tagging into round 3 & feeling smug to be near York, love it every year when they get the Xmas market & hot chocolate yurt/teepee (must not buy extra unneeded presents!).

Strictly is the definitive countdown for me, love it. I want to try & make dried fruit wreaths & swags for my house so need to get on that, & yesterday was horrible here, rain ALL day, made me think the summer is over & we need logs in for the burner, yay!! Grin

Where are these festive emojis you all have??

NoWordForFluffy · 09/08/2017 09:42

My emojis are in the emoji keyboard.

The MN ones (like Xmas Grin ) are the usual MN ones, but with f in front.

Strictly is great, Three! Well, I enjoy it anyway!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/08/2017 09:43

Emoji keyboard on my phone, that should say. Dimwit!

VivaJen · 09/08/2017 10:10

Morning all, I was wondering about those festive MN emojis 🎄
Xmas Grin

Blackandpurple · 09/08/2017 10:31

Oh yes Strictly is the point for me too. Im already looking forward to paying my vouchers off, i know what to get the kids (on a budget!)

Cant wait for the clocks to go back, warm stews, good dramas and the all important Christmas food brochures from the supermarket!!
