Have you started working on any crafts in preparation for Christmas? Or got plans to? Would love to hear about other people's plans and projects, feel free to share here whatever you're working on or anything really to do with Christmas crafting.

I'm currently looking around for ideas/patterns for...
Advent calendars
Stockings
Simple-to-make gifts in general

Ooh, I love that ladychatterly. Might try one for dd. Though I don't have any skills. Think a matching sleepmask would be fab & if I got that would defo be my fave present. How decadent :)

I'm doing a knitted Christmas. Adults will get knitted gift and one of those clove studded ribboned oranges. Children a knitted beanie and something else appropriate to them. Here's photos of a hat (in progress) for my sister and mittens for a friend.

What do you think the cost will be for your gifts Heidi? The hat pattern is lovely.

heidiwine · 18/09/2016 11:25

It will be quite expensive but it doesn't have to be - each thing is one ball of yarn. I've often bought on eBay and I have a lot of ends that I really try to use up (often crocheting or using for contrast). The oranges and cloves I do most years and buy a couple of metres of ribbon in different thicknesses and colours. I think they're beautiful and easy to do. I also (most years) spread the cost by starting Christmas knitting in the spring!!

Mummyshortlegz · 18/09/2016 11:31

That's a good idea. Perhaps next year I will start in January and knit one thing a month. I'm competent but slow!

I love the hat heidi your sister is so lucky! I've said before, but I wish I could knit! I like the effect so much more than crochet (maybe a grass is greener thing though!)

I have seen a local beginners knitting group advertised though, so thinking hard about it.

HelloConfidenceAreYouThere · 18/09/2016 12:58

What a lovely thread!

I am a relatively new crocheter and have started various Christmas projects but not finished them.
I finally finished this the other day though - it's for my friends newborn

I've just ordered the fabric to make a large loch ness monster/plesiosaur using this pattern www.welivedhappilyeverafter.com/2013/11/lochnessmonsterstuffedanimal.html
And i am crocheting one of the laylala dolls the dragon one both for my youngest. I also have found an easy looking infinity scarf sewing pattern that looks quite smart in a tartan whilst also being very easy so a few people may get those.

LadyChatterleysOM · 18/09/2016 16:06

oh nouse the scarf idea sounds great! would you mind sharing your pattern?

BirdingWidow · 18/09/2016 19:33

Ooh, I love a bit of Christmas craft and I have a bit more time this year... I am knitting mini Christmas jumpers for bunting, from this pattern:

www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-christmas-jumper-bunting

I am making up a load of extra patterns by drawing on squared paper and then knitting them. Have made almost 20 so far, all different, and am aiming for around 40 to go round my kitchen-diner

Also have started a crocheted wreath based on Attic24 (was inspired by Umlauf a couple of years back but only just got round to starting it). Also want to sew DS one of those pocket advent calendars. Have lots of other ideas but doubt I'll get any more than that done!

BirdingWidow · 18/09/2016 19:37

This is one of the designs I made up - but can you tell what it is? It elicited a lot of eye-rolling from DH as does all my Christmas crafting

BirdingWidow · 18/09/2016 20:13

Mummyshortlegz · 18/09/2016 20:20

FeelingSmurfy · 18/09/2016 20:31

Sprout wearing a Santa hat, and I love it so much I have a t-shirt with that on!

Bambooshoots14 · 18/09/2016 21:14

I'm planning on making the Attic24 Christmas wreath too. I also want to see a tree skirt but was baffled by all the patterns on Pinterest last year. They were just so big!

I've got hedgerow, damson & sloe gin ready to bottle and that's it so far

Ooh good thread. I'm making my sister this mermaid tail in different colours and doing a granny square blanket for my granny! Also have four pairs of curtains and three dresses to make for people. Eek.

birdingwidow I love it so much. I've found a local knitting group and am thinking about signing up basically so I can make those!!

So great to see all the crochet! Especially the wreaths!

BirdingWidow · 19/09/2016 15:16

Ha ha we must have very similar taste LadyChatterley, as I am also on the Attic24 wreath trail! I love knitting and crochet, depends on my mood and the finish I want. I started as a knitter as that is my mum's preferred craft and she taught me. Would defo recommend learning if you have been enjoying the crochet. I am sure you will pick it is, iirc you taught yourself to crochet? Must be online tutorials for knitting?

LadyChatterleysOM · 20/09/2016 21:34

seaweed those hexagons are beautiful, it looks very Frozen inspired!

glorious love the mermaid tail. I bought some mermaidy sequins today to add to mine (although I'm just sewing one from fleece).

Lovely to see more wreath love BirdingWidow !! I bought some 4mm needles tonight and have sat down with that tiny jumper pattern. I have got to row 23 and have something satisfyingly jumper shaped but my GOD its frustrating. I have extra stitches all over the shop despite counting every row. TWO appeared just now. It is happening on the rows when knit and purl both appear, so if its just a knit row or a purl row I'm good, but as soon as its k2p32 or whatever I'm ruined. I couldn't do the first two rows AT ALL so just went straight to stocking stitch.. Any advice? Or just get back to the hook!

So frustrating to go back to the beginning having worked up in crochet. I knew it would take a bit of practise but also very annoying to have a jumper on the needles that will be frogged. I did teach myself because of the poncetastic thread a few years ago, someone made amazing snowflakes so I learnt to do that and now I love it! Funny if I end up loving knitting too because of your jumpers!!
