Have you started working on any crafts in preparation for Christmas? Or got plans to? Would love to hear about other people's plans and projects, feel free to share here whatever you're working on or anything really to do with Christmas crafting.

I'm currently looking around for ideas/patterns for...
Advent calendars
Stockings
Simple-to-make gifts in general

I'm loving all the craft porn.

Umlauf, your wreath makes me want to try crocheting again.

I'm definitely going to do a version of the Punch a Present that LadySilvia spotted for either DS's birthday party or his advent calendar. He'll love it!

CarrotVan · 12/09/2016 13:06

I use this stocking pattern and tutorial. It's very clear

I've also started making some bags - a couple of Japanese Bento bags and a One Stripe bag. I'm planning to make some Japanese ring bags too

I did a punch pinata for DS's birthday and it was very popular.

One idea that I love is wrapping the door to the room presents are in and having them burst through Xmas Smile just open door and stick cheap wrapping paper to the frame

Annaanaconda · 12/09/2016 14:30

Sorry, I seem to be taking over this thread with my crafty bits, but I do love to faff! Blush
If anyone likes the look of quilty things but can't sew, I made a few of these for relatives last year and they were well received. Its just a polystyrene ball, fabric and lots of pins. If you search "No Sew Quilted Ornament" on Youtube, Google or Pinterest some tutorials should come up.

DD1 was 18 months last Christmas, so I made a few felt baubles for the tree rather than risk breakable ones. As DD2 will be 9 months this Christmas, I am planning on making a few more!

I used this tutorial to make them, they were very easy even with fairly little sewing skill. Attached pics of a couple of mine!

I'm thinking of making this for DS

The fabric has arrived for my quilted table runner. Will post pictures when I've finished making it.

sn0wdr0p4 · 12/09/2016 17:13

I started in January! I make the majority of my Christmas presents so need to start early.
I am making lots of things from felt, including some play food for my Granddaughter. My favourite thing so far is the iPhone, also for my Granddaughter.
I like the chocolate orange Christmas pudding, I might try that this year. Last year I made different flavoured dipped chocolate spoons for stirring into coffee.

You have a very, very lucky granddaughter sn0wdr0p4. Those are amazing! My poor Mum can barely sew a button on, but MIL can quilt and cross stitch and has made DD some really beautiful things that I know she'll treasure forever and pass on to her own children one day.

luckiestgirl · 12/09/2016 23:38

Wow snowdrop - I'm impressed!

Carrot- that toilet roll advent calendar looks brilliant. I'm going to make a version of that I think.

Bambooshoots14 · 13/09/2016 07:28

sn0wdr0p4 very impressed by that phone, you have more patience than me!

Ditsy4 · 13/09/2016 07:37

Loving these pics of your projects.

I am planning to finish all the things I haven't made. I buy cushion fabric and other bits and patterns but work gets in the way and then I don't get them done. So this year I am planning to make them up give them away and then I will have more room for the craft I am doing at the moment as I am running out of space.

sn0wdr0p4 · 13/09/2016 07:56

Thanks everyone, I really enjoy sewing Grin We all have our own talents, I am in awe of people who can cook a decent meal. I do come from a "creative" family, my Dad made furniture as a hobby and my Mum can turn her hand to lots of different crafts. My Daughter is a textiles teacher.
The phone did take a long time Bamboo, one of the reasons I don't do it commercially. Plus I don't like making the same thing twice.
I now have a new little person to make things for, my great niece born on Sunday. Better get the knitting needles out.

NorbertDentressangle · 13/09/2016 08:16

That iphone is fabulous!

So detailed!

elQuintoConyo · 13/09/2016 20:55

I'm going to make a small one of these for my best friend's tree: it's a braincell Grin

There is a website called www.giantmicrobes.com that make all sorts of things - cuddley chlamidia anyone?

AmyAmoeba · 13/09/2016 22:08

Loving the brain cell!

I got 9 balls of sparkly white wool in Dealz, the Irish version of Poundland (I think), and made 26 Pom Pom snow balls.

Quick way to make Pom Poms if anyone else is as lazy as I am: I turned over two kiddie chairs on either end of my kitchen table and wound the wool around the legs. After winding about three balls of wool, I tied it tightly at intervals and then cut the wool halfway between each tie. They aren't as perfect as Pom Poms made the normal way, but just fine for a snowball fight.

Snozwanger · 13/09/2016 22:11

FelixFelix my son is* also* 3 on 22nd! I'm planning to make him a fabric advent calendar to hang from an over-door hook. I was browsing fabrics last night to match tree decs I made last year. I also made him a Santa sack. My theme is contemporary...teal, red, lime green, blue and white.

FeelingSmurfy · 13/09/2016 23:46

Snozwanger are you sure you haven't name changed and forgotten Grin lol what are the odds!

Snozwanger · 14/09/2016 08:18

No FeelingSmurfy he was definitely born 22nd! I know others born very close but not 22nd!

Ditsy4 · 14/09/2016 08:36

Love the brain cell.
Going to have a crafty day today. When I get up!

Klchi · 14/09/2016 08:49

I'll add some ideas later when not in a hurry! Don't want to miss this!

Eyre89 · 14/09/2016 08:55

I've been collecting sea glass to make cards and decorations with.

Have been making a patchwork gruffalo blanket which hasn't been touched for ages so what to finish that.

And hopefully do some gingerbread style decorations with ds as spotted terocotta air drying clay dries to a nice colour and he can help cut out and decorate.

Hi! Its crochet-wreath-lady here, under a namechange for TTC reasons. I don't want to mix buses!

This is my most recent one, a nightdress for MIL. I'm very new to sewing to have to do really simple ones, but hopefully the liberty fabric will make up for it, and just in case, I'm wrapping it in the liberty bag too so its bleeding obvious! I used this tutorial which was quite good but assumes a fair level of sewing I think and doesn't explain all the bits. I really hope she likes it, I'm not sure its enough and wondering if I ought to make it into a sleep-hamper with a nice eyemask, maybe if I bought some cashmere bed socks and posh hot chocolate or something.

I've also found this crochet pattern for beginners for a chunky hat which I think will be perfect for the men in my life (I always struggle with men?!) so I'll give that a go after payday.
