Have you started working on any crafts in preparation for Christmas? Or got plans to? Would love to hear about other people's plans and projects, feel free to share here whatever you're working on or anything really to do with Christmas crafting.

I'm currently looking around for ideas/patterns for...
Advent calendars
Stockings
Simple-to-make gifts in general

Oooo, place marking! Every year, by about 20 Dec I wish that I'd made something, so hoping for ideas Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/09/2016 20:21

Wow I'm very envious of your craftiness!
In 'the range' yesterday they had a small section of Christmas crafty bits and among it was the advent drawers/train to decoupage which I thought looked nice to do. I always promise myself I will do Christmas cards but it never happens.
I'm currently planning to make some cushions for my new house with appliqué designs made out of my old baby clothes (not Christmas though)

elQuintoConyo · 10/09/2016 21:54

I think there is a Poncetadtic Christmas thread that starts on 25th September - I'm hoping to join this year!

I'm making ragdolls, fingerpuppets and hopefully a christmas tree skirt, too. Oh and a wreath, as mine from last year is... well... bollocks!

Mummyshortlegz · 10/09/2016 21:59

I had great plans for digging out Christmas stuff now that preschool is back. This week I'll do it.

I have a fabric advent calendar that needs repairing so I'll need that down. I'm going to embroider some napkins (machine) and quilt a table runner.

FeelingSmurfy · 10/09/2016 22:30

We made sock snowmen using THIS video for instructions

They turned out great, but we used lentils rather than rice as that's what we had in the house, and we put matching hat to scarf, just used sock to make scarf and then the toe to make hat like she does with the white sock

FeelingSmurfy · 10/09/2016 22:30

That was last year

Wayfarersonbaby · 10/09/2016 22:46

This year I'm planning to keep it low-key and just make some pine cone tree decorations with DD. Can't face a bigger craft project!

elQuintoConyo · 10/09/2016 22:52

FeelingSmurfy that is great! I might make some with my son and nieces Smile

(I only have nieces!)

FelixFelix · 10/09/2016 22:56

I've just finished the body for a doll I'm making for dd. She turns 3 on 22nd Dec so I'm not sure if it's for her birthday or Christmas yet. She will have wool hair and an embroidered face. Hoping to make a few different outfits to dress her up in!

It's the first time I've ever made something like this and now I am stressed to high heavens! Never again Shock

I have made these. I had a look online for ideas, and drew the patterns out and made them from felt. They have long dangly ribbon legs, and I've bought miniature pegs so I can clip our Christmas cards on them. I'm hoping they take the weight and hang straight.

Just hunted out my picture Smile I would say it took around 45 minutes including getting everything together, watching the video a few times (and then pausing to do a step and watching next step etc) and clearing up afterwards. Good fun and a good decoration

Can I join in? I haven't actually started anything, but am enjoying the planning.

I'm planning to make 2 present sacks. I'm looking for green fabric and red fabric at the moment, and will use a white pompom trim somehow. Similar colourways to the stockings pictured, but sacks. I think I'll make 2 the same and add names/initials to stop un-Christmassy fighting over them!

I also plan to make some Barbie-sized furniture and bedding for a home-made Barbie advent calendar for DD. I made a little bean bag and sleeping bag with left over fabric a couple of months back, and DD loves them.

Just remembered, we are planning on making these this year, it's just a chocolate orange covered in maltesers (stuck on with melted chocolate) then either white fondant or melted white chocolate on the top

FeelingSmurfy · 10/09/2016 23:40

A picture would help Blush

Hit send too soon...

Your mermaid blanket is just amazing anyoldname76, I wish I had your talent. I can sew and make stuff out of wood, but just can't seem to master crocheting.

I love homemade food MothershipG, and judging by the sharpened elbows at our village cake sales and jam sales, I'm not alone!

fivetosix - you have just reminded me that I bought a load of handmade tree decorations from a local craft fair just before Christmas last year that I had decided to save for this year.

anyoldname76 · 11/09/2016 08:01

thanks sitsonfence crochet is my favourite hobby as i can do it sitting on the sofa watching tv with the dc Smile , im halfway done on my sisters tree skirt now. i bought a die cutter last year as i wanted make the felt decorations, i dont know what i was thinking as i hate sewing Grin

justkeeponsmiling · 11/09/2016 08:13

Thanks for this thread moomin - I have been more or less lurking on the Christmas bargain threads for weeks now and I followed your link.
Tea I am hoping to make the attic24 wreath too! If I have time, that is...
I am planning on sewing some lined shopping bags for some relatives - I am not a very skilled sewer but I'm ok with straight lines and I have some lovely fabrics I am looking forward to using.
I might also make some more attic 24 neckwarmers as gifts, made one last year and it was really pretty and very quick and easy to do.
I am also planning to make the DCs an advent calendar each - if I have enough time I will sew some little bags I can re-use each year, but if things get a bit tight I might just buy a load of brown paper bags and decorate them.
That's all for now. Looking forward to see what else everyone is doing!

Wondermoomin · 11/09/2016 08:24

So impressed with all these! I'm a bit of a novice so I'm hoping I'll be able to produce something photo-worthy to share BlushGrin

I'm going to do the attic24 Christmas wreath and an elf on the shelf. Have made pickled onions and am making a pickhilli next week. I'd love to make some present sacks too... going to go through my wool stash today!

Equimum · 11/09/2016 09:52

Oh, can I join. I starting making mini (as in, about 2.5inch high) stockings last night, which I'll attach to ribbon (or something (?)) to make an advent calendar for DS2.

I am also making a set of padded felt letters for DS1. I am using appliqué (sort of), to embellish with something relating to the letter.

Nearer Christmas, I also hope to do a wreath-making workshop, and I want to make some homemade food baskets for older relatives.

Umlauf · 11/09/2016 10:13

I made this today! got a mermaid one to do next.

herebehippos I learnt to crochet with the Attic24 wreath! This is mine, its a big more subdued in colour. I've made a few wreaths since then but this one, despite being full of awful errors, is the best because a) its the biggest and b) it has non-crochet stuff on.

I would love to knit. DSs main present is going to be a Thomas the Tank engine jumper with the character who shares his name on, The pattern is a vintage one from 80s. I've had to commission it!

Easy one: pom-pom snowballs for indoor snowball fights. My 2 and 4yos will love them.
