Mumsnet Christmas Appeal: the thank you thread II

Hello

Follow-on thread from this one.

To quote SecretSantaSandyMumsnet:

So the spreadsheets have been completed, the matches have gone out, all is done. Gin

We're all waiting with bated breath. If you're a recipient and you'd like to pop back on here when your gift arrives to thank your donor then do remember to look out for your MN code which will have been included in the address on the packaging and include it in your post. The person who sent the gift will then be able to know it's you.

If anyone has any questions about anything to do with the Mumsnet Christmas Appeal then do please email [email protected].

Ho Ho Ho!

Here too. SS069 have you got your gifts yet? Please let us know Sad

LightHousekeeping · 29/12/2012 01:11

There should've been as easier way to check. I hate the way it makes me feel when all I really want to know is if they got there or if I should be going to the post office and chasing it up.

tallwivglasses · 29/12/2012 01:12

How do you know what your SS no is? I'm sure I was only given a no for the recipient Xmas Confused

LightHousekeeping · 29/12/2012 01:27

I think that's the only number you need

HecateQueenofWitches · 29/12/2012 09:16

I know. It could be people have gone away, have no internet access, or there's a personal problem etc.

But you can't settle until you know that what you sent was received. By the person who was intended to receive it!

In my case, it was signed for well before christmas. Since the recipient hasn't said so (even if she bloody HATES it and intends to ebay it! Grin ) I am of course worried that royal mail dumped it in a bin and faked her signature, or a neighbour took it and she's got no clue, etc.

membershipcard · 29/12/2012 09:24

I thought there was that the same number was given to both, so the receiver is known as MNnumber and the sender as SSnumber.

I posted mine 2 weeks before Christmas, the MNer hasn't posted to say if it has/has not been received.

I get you, zukie. This is exactly what I am talking about. I might be your SS. Gift sent, signed for - but you don't have it.

(I'm not, I just checked. Mine has 2 young boys)

Oh I thought that the MN nominated would know the number!

Will give some clues....
Postcode starts with UB
2 children, boy 7 and girl 4.

Feel like a detective Grin

PavlovtheCat · 29/12/2012 10:49

I did not know my number, until the item arrived with it marked on it.
Just in case you have not seen my posts earlier, I had lovely gifts from MN150!

Spartak · 29/12/2012 11:25

I've not heard from the person i've sent to either. It was tracked and signed for although the signature was not readable. Its insured as part of the tracking fee so if it had gone missing I would be able to claim and send again.

Maybe next year the SS could email MNHQ when the parcel sent, recepients could email when received, so any discrepancy could be chased up.

I'd hate to think that the person I sent to thought I couldn't be bothered.

tallwivglasses · 29/12/2012 11:42

MN 051 I'm starting to get a bit sad now. If you can't remember your no, here's some clues - you live in the NE and have 6 kids, 2 of whom still live with you.

If the parcel hasn't arrived yet, please post on here so I can chase it up (I got proof of postage at least)

I think next year I'll buy something smaller so I can afford to send it by registered post.

At what point do we ask MNHQ to chase up email our sendees?

tallwivglasses · 29/12/2012 11:44

"It would be handy if we knew our SS numbers, then we could come on here, and hopefully the donors would see our posts."

Can anyone tell me for certain if the SS no is the same as the MN no?

tallwivglasses · 29/12/2012 11:45

Okay, getting a bit obsessed now. Stepping way...

Stitchthis · 29/12/2012 12:27

hecat any more clues?

Would it be possible for MNHQ to send out an email to all who were nominated reminding them of this thread?

HecateQueenofWitches · 29/12/2012 12:39

boys are 7 and 9

Don't want to put location as don't want to risk outing someone.

I would imagine that they have just gone to family for christmas or something, it's just that it has been signed for and until they confirm that it was them and not some dodgy neighbour who's kept it, I won't be able to rest Grin

LittleTownofBethleHelenMumsnet · 29/12/2012 13:55

Hello. Just a quick post to thank everyone once again for your kindness and generosity.

We can see that there are some people on this thread who are worrying that the parcel they have sent has not arrived or has not been acknowledged.

We do understand but we would also ask you all to be patient a while longer.

We know, from previous Christmas Appeals, that some parcels do take an age to get to their intended recipient - often because they've been taken to a sorting office and haven't been picked up yet.

We also know that many of the recipients of parcels (the MNers who've been nominated) are going through all sorts of horrible/upsetting/difficult stuff in their life and, if you're in that sort of situation, it's not always easy to find the time/opportunity to come on this thread and post a word of thanks.

It's lovely that so many nominees do manage to post their thank you but we do hope that folks understand it's not compulsory and not a condition of being nominated.

We're sure the vast vast majority of parcels have been (or will be) received with huge gratitude - whether that's reflected on this thread or not.

And if you're one of the very few donators who haven't yet had a thank you, please take comfort from the fact that everyone here at MNHQ (and, we're sure, other MNers round the country who are reading this thread) is stunned by your goodwill and generosity and thinks you're wonderful.

We know it's not the same as a thank you from your recipient but we hope it'll make you feel all nice and fuzzy round the festive edges this Christmas.

HecateQueenofWitches · 29/12/2012 14:08

It's not about a thank you, please don't think anyone is sitting here like lady bountiful and demanding thanks Grin. It's about really worrying that someone thinks they weren't bothered with, when you did actually send them something.

I would hate to think someone was sitting there, after having been told by mn that they had been nominated, and nothing came, and they felt they couldn't possibly say anything because it would seem grabby - when they HAD been sent something but it had been lost in the post/signed for by a neighbour and kept/shoved under a box by a postman/returned to the depot and waiting there

GlaikitFizzogTheChristmasElf · 29/12/2012 14:37

Also, adding to what hec said. If something has been lost by the Royal Mail, yu have some recompense with them. Up to £40 for standard postage and more if its signed for. Which some of the missing parcels here have been sent using.

If a parcels hasn't been relieved surely the sender should be able to make a claim against the loss?

ThePlEWhoLovedMe · 29/12/2012 14:38

Indeed Hecate.

I have not yet confirmation that my gift was received, however last year the same thing happened but given time my recipient was able to come and let me know it was received and liked .... so I have not given up hope completely yet.
