Mumsnet Christmas Appeal: the thank you thread II

Hello

Follow-on thread from this one.

To quote SecretSantaSandyMumsnet:

So the spreadsheets have been completed, the matches have gone out, all is done. Gin

We're all waiting with bated breath. If you're a recipient and you'd like to pop back on here when your gift arrives to thank your donor then do remember to look out for your MN code which will have been included in the address on the packaging and include it in your post. The person who sent the gift will then be able to know it's you.

If anyone has any questions about anything to do with the Mumsnet Christmas Appeal then do please email [email protected].

Ho Ho Ho!

@FiveFestiveFlowers

Rowan, thank you for starting another thread as I'm still waiting to be reassured my parcel posted on 1st December has arrived.

I'm really worried now and hope my recipient isn't thinking I haven't bothered Sad

Not looking for thanks, and I appreciate there are reasons for not 'chasing up' but is there any way you can discreetly find out if gifts have been received?

TIA.

Hi FiveFestive,
Did you get our mail? So sorry you are still concerned.
Please drop us an email at [email protected]

Just bobbing in to say Merry Christmas.
For many of us here at MNHQ, this thread makes our Christmas too. You're all lovely lovely people

Wishing you all the best for 2013.

Hello. Just a quick post to thank everyone once again for your kindness and generosity.

We can see that there are some people on this thread who are worrying that the parcel they have sent has not arrived or has not been acknowledged.

We do understand but we would also ask you all to be patient a while longer.

We know, from previous Christmas Appeals, that some parcels do take an age to get to their intended recipient - often because they've been taken to a sorting office and haven't been picked up yet.

We also know that many of the recipients of parcels (the MNers who've been nominated) are going through all sorts of horrible/upsetting/difficult stuff in their life and, if you're in that sort of situation, it's not always easy to find the time/opportunity to come on this thread and post a word of thanks.

It's lovely that so many nominees do manage to post their thank you but we do hope that folks understand it's not compulsory and not a condition of being nominated.

We're sure the vast vast majority of parcels have been (or will be) received with huge gratitude - whether that's reflected on this thread or not.

And if you're one of the very few donators who haven't yet had a thank you, please take comfort from the fact that everyone here at MNHQ (and, we're sure, other MNers round the country who are reading this thread) is stunned by your goodwill and generosity and thinks you're wonderful.

We know it's not the same as a thank you from your recipient but we hope it'll make you feel all nice and fuzzy round the festive edges this Christmas.

@HecateQueenofWitches

It's not about a thank you, please don't think anyone is sitting here like lady bountiful and demanding thanks Grin. It's about really worrying that someone thinks they weren't bothered with, when you did actually send them something.

I would hate to think someone was sitting there, after having been told by mn that they had been nominated, and nothing came, and they felt they couldn't possibly say anything because it would seem grabby - when they HAD been sent something but it had been lost in the post/signed for by a neighbour and kept/shoved under a box by a postman/returned to the depot and waiting there

Yes, we appreciate that. And we have been in touch with some nominated folks who haven't received their parcel yet to more or less say the same thing: please be patient; we're sure it'll turn up.

If it helps, we know from previous years that the mismatch between sent parcels and posted thanks is not - in the main - because parcels go missing. It's nearly always either a gone-back-to-thesorting-office/depot sitch or just the recipient simply not having had the time or the opportunity to post to say it's arrived.

Afternoon.

We have deleted katemiddy's post because we don't think it's really on to attack other Mumsnetters for their lack of generosity - particularly on this thread.

If you contact us, katemiddy, we'll be happy to do what we can. But we can see that you've already received one parcel, so we do hope that will spread a bit of a warm glow.

And, just as a general note to all: we do appreciate that it's disappointing to know you've been nominated and then not to have received anything (yet) and that's it's also disappointing to have sent a parcel and then not to have had any thanks/acknowledgement (yet).

But we do want to stress that the Appeal is run entirely on goodwill and kindness. And, despite best intentions, things may inevitably go awry.

Donors may find they're no longer able to send a parcel (though most of those are kind enough to let us at MNHQ know, so we can try to make other arrangements) and recipients may be unable (for all sorts of reasons) to post their thanks/acknowledgement.

We do think it's important that everyone who takes part in the Appeal - either as a donor or as a recipient or both - does so with no expectations. We'd hope that donors would be happy to give, even if their giving might, sadly, not be acknowledged, and recipients would be happy to have been nominated by a fellow Mumsnetter, even if, sadly, their gift never arrives.

This is a truly lovely thing that so many MNers do for each other at this time of year. But, in an operation of such a huge nature, there will always be the odd thing that doesn't quite go right.

It would be such a shame for the overall wonderfulness of the Appeal to be undermined by the odd little cock-up.
