Ahh, that's definitely where I'm letting myself down. The sternness. Much to my consternation I used my best stern voice on the children this morning and they both fell about laughing.

I have just looked at the nativity on the Playmobil website and I. Want. One. Joseph alone with his lovely beard makes it worthwhile!

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 10:24

You don't just want one. You NEED one.

seriously

If you want the true message of Christmas to infuse your house over the festive period you have to get a playmobil nativity set with the flickering battery operated (no naked flames near the playmobil Jesus) round the back.

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 10:25

you wont regret it

welshandproud · 11/11/2010 10:25

Are these advent calendars reasonably priced?
look here

stealthsquiggle · 11/11/2010 10:27

depends what the shipping charges are like, but the prices seem pretty good.

welshandproud · 11/11/2010 10:33

p&p 3.24 guess i'll need to find a local stockist.

JetCat · 11/11/2010 10:46

i like the sound of playmobil nativity. It could introduce DD to the wonder of playmobil, and as i will follow slubber's rules to the letter she will be fed up of not being allowed to play with it. Hence more excitement on the big day itself when she gets some she is allowed to touchHmm

I do like the look of barbeque manGrin

Can i ask boring questions please? How do you all store it - and do you use a base board or alike (eg something like a lego base board) to set the scenes up, or are they just on table/floor? I can't remember what i used to doBlush

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 10:50

You don't need a board jetcat so it gets set up all over the shop.

I store mine in those big underbed boxes with wheels when it's not scattered everywhere.

At least since getting the dog and threat of consumed playmo is high so the stuff stays upstairs.

DirtyMartini · 11/11/2010 10:52

I'm confused now. It looks like the new stuff that we are all thinking isn't available, is on Amazon UK and seems to be ... well, available. They have the new camper and the German market and all. I haven't looked properly at prices etc but it all seems to be in stock. (Agents only available in a massive unrealistic bundle of all the sets together at over two hundred quid, though.)

There is a "new for 2010" costlier nativity and new kings, too. Looks like the new nativity has a stable. Slubber, please advise, what are your thoughts?

DirtyMartini · 11/11/2010 10:53

Can I just add that my going-to-sleep thoughts last night were entirely about Playmobil.

flossie64 · 11/11/2010 10:58

I got some bargains from here
Only £2 postage as well Smile

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 11:07

ooer Martini.

The old nativity has a stable, but of the cardboard variety.

I'd have to see the new Kings to pass judgment. My Kings are pretty fancy already. You don't want OTT magi to outshine Mary et al.

Tikkabillajive · 11/11/2010 11:11

DirtyMartini I think that stuff on Amazon is just people/shops who have imported it from Germany - it's not widely available here or on the UK Playmobil site yet but will be next year (the new catalogue comes out some time in the spring I think). The new camper van is £40 on Amazon which I am sure is more expensive than it will be when it's available everywhere else.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the pirate ship for a 3 yr old boy?

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 11:14

although, if you do what I do, which is to set the Kings a little way away from the Holy Tableaux it wouldn't matter if they were a bit frou-frou.

I find placing the 3 Kings thus it easily differentiates via the mode of German plastic play figures, the very separate dates of Nativity and the later Epiphany.

DirtyMartini · 11/11/2010 11:15

Flossie, that link doesn't seem to work?

flossie64 · 11/11/2010 11:19

Sorry ,try www.jadlamracingmodels.com

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 11:43

Aaaarrrghhh!! Yo are all making me want a nativity set now!

Sorry Slubber, I let ds play with hs police advent calendar last year - was that wrong? Blush We did have some interesting scenes going on in the diorama though, especially when Michael the beach policeman turned up.

We are wondering what to do when we have two Father Chritmases (after the arrival of the Forest advent calendar). The problem is that the original one is the Foreign Secretary in Norman the Foreman's cabinet. Ds thinks that the new one should also serve in the cabinet, but I fear this may cause family ructions a la Miliband brothers..... What does everyone else think?

DirtyMartini · 11/11/2010 11:46

SoMuch, all I'd say is remember that cabinet appointments really have to be well matched to the individual's capabilities, otherwise the tabloids will never let you hear the end of it.

I reckon your DS needs to remain detached until he's had a chance to interview the new FC, see how he shapes up on policy matters.

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 11:49

Good thinking, DirtyMartini! I'm sure Norman will want to give him a cup of tea an in-depth interview before allowing him anywhere near the cabinet.

DirtyMartini · 11/11/2010 11:52

Are there cabinet positions actually open at the mo? Secretary of Snow? Sugar Secretary?

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 11:56

I think you can have two FCs.

Obviously one of them is the 'real' playmobil big man and the other one is just some regular playmobil dude who has gotten dressed up in order to help.

Never the twain shall meet though.

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 11:57

I'm not too sure, will have to check with Norman. We do already have a Minister for Hot Beverages and a Minister for Biscuits. Grin

SoMuchToBits · 11/11/2010 11:59

Well, Slubber, I thought at this time of year it might lighten the load a bit for FC if he had an assistant. The new one could do the gift duties, while the original one concentrates on foreign policy....

Slubberdegullion · 11/11/2010 12:22

foreign policy and festive austerity measures
