Where is the annual thread? Did you all buy your playmobil sets?
Used to see thread every year here. My ds is now 3 and i really wnat to buy him Playmobil. What is hit, what is miss? Advice needed.

OP posts:
Tikitikitembo · 10/11/2010 11:15

They last forever. The detail is great. We still have some from the 70s it looks new.

taffetacat · 10/11/2010 11:24

I am tempted by that Fairy Unicorn palace thing. DD is into fairies and plays with her dollshouse a lot. I was hoping to get some gorgeous wooden toadstool with accompanying fairies but its not going to happen is it?

feetheart · 10/11/2010 11:28

Simpson - if you think DS might be too young for all the teeny, tiny bits (and you can bear to be without them!) get him something from ebay - quite a few of the miniscule bits get hoovered up lost.
Did this for DS's 3rd birthday. Additional bonus is that we could afford to get 2 sets (bin lorry and camper van)

Off to investigate advent calendars :)

Tikitikitembo · 10/11/2010 11:29

what about these taffeta www.gltc.co.uk/fcp/product/-/girls'%20playsets/Teapot-Fairy-Café-/10000001917

archfiend · 10/11/2010 11:29

we dd also loves Playmobil. We have shitloads quite a lot as g'parents got in on the act last year and bought her some but it is fantastic stuff.

We tend to have very complicated scenarios involving people going camping to ride ponies and then ending up in hospital (usually next to the horses). Without sounding too 'worthy' about it, it is fantastic for encouraging imaginative play and keeps dd occupied for hours!

Am very tempted by the idea of an advent calendar this year as we have never bought one before - any recommendations for the best one?

Tikitikitembo · 10/11/2010 11:30

or this

Playmobil ones look lovely as well though

taffetacat · 10/11/2010 11:33

Thanks tiki - that carriage and unicorn looks lovely. I may ask my mum to get it. Grin

Tikitikitembo · 10/11/2010 12:03

It does doesn't it ! Grin Wish mine still liked faries Sad

When they grow out of Playmobil I am keeping it for me.

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2010 13:35

Same here, Tiki - except ds says he is never going to grow out of itGrin.
Taffetacat, the reason we love it is because it's so versatile. The detail is great, and you can make up all sorts of different scenarios. We tend to have a lot of police/robbers/traffic incidents at the moment. It does depend a bit on your child though. Some of ds's friends aren't that keen, but any child who is fairly imaginative will probably like it.

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2010 18:24

Am still wondering if Slubberdegullion is going to buy the pony ranch advent calendar....

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2010 18:35

HOW DID I MISS THIS THREAD?? Shock

will read from start

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2010 18:41

Oh my

new advent calendars

I'd have to have the old ones too.

Do you think 4 playmo advent calendars is overkill?

OP campervan everytime. The campervan is king in playmobil land (well in our playmobil land). Very versatile.

SummerRain · 10/11/2010 18:49

I'm half afraid to read this as i'm as adicted to playmobil as the dcs and have already done the christmas shopping so don't want any more inspiration! Grin

The kids are only 5, 4 and 1 so the older two have only gotton into it recently but they have the rubbish truck and the vet clinic and love them so much they've asked for loads more for christmas.

They came across a catalogue and ds1 fell in love with the dragon castle and dd with the circus and they couldn't agree on which to ask santa for so i told them they could ask for one each Blush i've bought ds1 the LED dragon to go with the castle as it was half price when bought together so then i bought dd the animal training set to go with the circus so they'd have the same amount to open [needs kick emoticon] I figure the vets can fix the animals too though Wink

I also picked up the police and woodland animal advent calanders as they had the santa's bakery and princess ones last year and really loved them and still play with the toys daily.

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2010 18:53

Slubber - no I don't think 4 advent calendars is overkill Wink

SummerRain, the police advent calendar is great, we had it last year. I have ordered the Christmas in the Forest one for this year.

huffythethreadslayer · 10/11/2010 18:55

They had the carry farm for £30 in Home Bargains this wk and also a truck for £17 and the skull island carry case (can't remember the price, but t'was cheap.

Couldn't believe they had Playmobil, but sadly, the carry farm is a bit young for my girl :(

Slubberdegullion · 10/11/2010 18:56

all you lot who buy new calendars every year. So indulgent!!!

This will be year 4 of Princess Gardens and Woodland scene with FC. I love making up all the little boxes on Nov 30th.

ChippyMinton · 10/11/2010 19:02

(not stalking you Slubbers Wink)

Our advent calender gets set up tableaux stylee - last coupld of years the festivities have taken place inside the knights castle, complete with fake snow and fairy lights. This year it's the turn of the Grande Mansion. Santa will land on the roof and come down the chimney. BBQ man will, of course, be on hand to offer refreshments.

SummerRain · 10/11/2010 19:04

slubber..... the boxes last year barely survived me assembling them, much less the dc's opening them!

They play with the princesses daily and the santa's bakery is boxed up with the christmas decorations... our version of a nativity scene Grin

woolymindy · 10/11/2010 19:05

Campervan was our first and then big farm which was 40 percent off - we also have vets which i bought from a friend

I also have a playmobil nativity set and 3 wise men - it is mine and the children are NOT allowed to touch it

simpson · 10/11/2010 19:05

If you reuse the calenders each yr surely most some if it gets lost??

Or would that just be my DC?? Blush Grin

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2010 19:10

We don't reuse ours as an advent calendar - but it does get played with a lot afterwards!

Hello Chippy, wondered when you would turn up! Grin

simpson · 10/11/2010 19:13

somuch - thats what I think will happen here tbh.

Think the Dc are going to love them!!!

So pleased to have found something that DD can have iyswim (as she can't have chocolate or soya)

roundthehouses · 10/11/2010 19:22

yay! love playmobil. ds is only 3 so not a huge collection - so far we have the police car and motorbike and aeroplane - he likes them all, prob the police stuff best though. Have ordered the fire station for xmas and another family member will get him a fire engine (he actually has a playmobil leaflet of the whole fireman setup stuck on his wall as his xmas wish list!). Am prob going to get an advent calendar too but kind of wavering...

JetCat · 10/11/2010 20:24

oooh excitedGrin

DD(3) is getting the pm family camper van from her auntie - her very first playmobil item!

So, i am tempted to get a couple of little bits to go with that, but there are so many to choose fromConfused Can anyone recommend items under a tenner please? Maybe 2 or 3?

DirtyMartini · 10/11/2010 20:36

Loving this thread, it's somehow very soothing and festive. And all the talk of advent calendars has me totally sold on getting one now. Where do you veterans recommend as a good site for browsing the options?

I was just on eBay and had a quick look at the Playmobil listings there. All kinds of fascinating bits and pieces. Even a nun with a bible. And a baby in an incubator with a paediatrician. And an executioner with a hood, for the castle. Honestly, it's quicker to list what they don't make, isn't it?
