I received this txt from my dd on Friday - is she the most self-contained 11 year old around?

I was in work, she was at home with her dad.

"I've started my p**d [her asterisks].yes I'm sure.No I haven't told Dad and I don't intend to.Yes I've put a pad on.No I don't feel scared or worried.Yes everything is under control, so there is no need to ask any questions!!Please carry on with your work and don't worry about me!!No I don't really want to talk about it when you get home, so just tell me which pads to use and you keep on buying them for me and everything will be fine!!OK!!"

I texted her back saying we would have a chat when I got home, she said "I'll pass on the chat thanks".

I haven't actually seen her for more then 5 minutes since she texted, as she has been out, I've been out etc.

She is just so grown up - I can't believe it!

We will be chatting about it, though...

(changed my name as she reads mn sometimes and would be mortified to see this here)

I told the whole street as I was 13 and all my friends had started theirs. I was shouting "I'm a woman!" as I walked up the street and my mates were in hysterics. I wasn't embarrassed by it just eager to see what all the fuss was about.

I noticed you'd apologised TR good for you

TrinityRhino · 25/08/2008 11:30

well I dont think I need a book as I would just give it to her
more like I would have a good read and then think about what I would like to start with and then maybe read bits with her so she can ask questions right then and then she can just have to look back to if she wants

she already has mummy laid an egg, great book

tigermoth · 25/08/2008 11:44

Ah yes, em..... of course I know you

I remember meeting you at B but how strange, I did think we had a talk about cot bumpers. Oh well, blame it on the wine!

Aitch · 25/08/2008 12:00

HAH! i know now.

growingdd · 25/08/2008 14:18

Don't remember talking about cot bumpers, but then I couldn't even remember where we were, so not a reliable witness.

Glad those who know / knew me remember me, not been around for ages.

I remember you e**l !

I have just copied this posting from the thread that www linked to:

"e*l it won't be like you're imagining at all, everyone will be as kind and nice in person than you find them on line. Do not be nervous, anyone, as it will be a great lunch date! We're the ladies who lunch.... "

Pretty ironic huh?

Love Cam xx

That was a good lunch!

I remember Scummy was rather lubricated, but then so was I.

And everyone was really nice, as most people on mn are, in my experience.

Just to go back to my OP, dd is fine, have had a couple of brief (by her choosing) chats with her, she seems very cool about it all, but have emphasised that I am here if she wants help / advice etc...

ta v much for bringing that up, Marina!

GROWINGDD, just adding my support for your OP. I didn't think she sounded rude either. I wouldn't have a problem with a text message like that either and neither am I suprised that you haven't seen much of her this weekend! I too have a dd of a similar age, who drifts in and out with friends in tow or an overnight bag!

Oh, and welcome to the wonderful world of PMT'ed teenagers! Tis a wonderful place to be!

growingdd · 25/08/2008 20:28

Thanks Maureen, I am sooo looking forward to it - luckily I have another dd 2 years younger, so the fun will last even longer!!

I bet your DH is thrilled at the prospect! I know mine was. I think he muttered something like, 'oh dear god, now I've got 2 emotional wrecks every 4 weeks!'

growingdd · 25/08/2008 20:39

Dh was emotionally scarred by his mother's menopause - he feels he is destined to be shouted at by hormonal women at every point in his life!

Twas the start of a beautiful friendship missus

edam · 25/08/2008 21:59

What a very strange thread. Glad some of the carping has been sorted out.

FWIW I think growingdd has a very funny, lively dd who will go far.

(My mother offered to show me how to insert a tampon... I am still SCARRED by that conversation.)

ScummyMummy · 25/08/2008 22:03

lol edam! Mind you, despite utter mortification, I was v grateful to my mum when she noticed me walking funny and assured me that really, honestly, tampons can't be lost inside and should be pushed up further...

tis true marina.

MaureenMLove · 25/08/2008 22:03

Edam! You poor, poor thing!!

LynetteScavo · 25/08/2008 22:25

Edam I'm not sure if I'm of you or not; my mother didn't even tell me what they were for!!!

lilolilmanchester · 25/08/2008 22:40

I didn't read your DD's text as rude/immature/sarcastic/unkind, but then I have a teenage DS/preteen DD and spend a lot of time with friends who have teenage girls . It would be interesting for those who found growingdd's dd's texts unpleasant to say how old their DCs are. Not being funny, just a bit of research cos I reckon I might have read it differently when I only had little ones and before I spent so much time around (really decent) teenagers.

edam · 25/08/2008 23:05

Put it this way: when my sister started hers, she came to me, not my mother...

chipmonkey · 25/08/2008 23:56

Gdd, I love your dd! She sounds like she'll grow up to be morningpaper!

stitch · 25/08/2008 23:58

i have an 11 year old ds, and i would be very impressed if he sent me such a long, mature text.
