I have 3 daughters, our eldest is 14 and diagnosed with ADHD and they told us at her assessment that she needs assessing for ASD but there is no way I can put her through it as she won’t cope emotionally with it. Our 12 year old is diagnosed with ADHD, she shows no signs of ASD at all. We then have our 6 year old that I believe has adhd and is being assessed in 24th March and is waiting an ASD assessment date. I’m confident she has both as it is likely history repeating itself, she is a clone of our eldest! The issue I have is she masks at school and then comes home every day having an emotional explosion and then shows full signs at home and requires a lot of extra care. She has shown signs at school when routine changes etc but day to day she doesn’t. They have observed her and can see signs in her small movements that she is masking. DLA have said that if they are masking at school it’s hard to prove with no care plan etc - has anyone had similar experience and what evidence have you used?

Sorry not necessarily helping you but this is the same problem we have. Our son masks at school completely and when he gets home it is an absolute nightmare. Soon as he leaves the school gates he’s difficult, the emotional outbursts are so hard to deal with. I didn’t even get school to fill any of my form in because when I spoke to his teacher she said there’s no point me filling anything in because it won’t support your claim: which is really disappointing. I’ve even shown school recordings of him at home, senco even said what he does is definitely stimming but still wouldn’t add any extra to my form to help with the claim, which isn’t giving me much hope as it’s just my word. So frustrating isn’t it.

STEPH691 · 26/02/2024 13:15

@mummyof3girlsx good luck keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you. That holding pile can’t hold you much longer 😂😂 @Amyz123mummyto3 congratulations hun xx

MrsRawl · 26/02/2024 13:19

I called this morning, I’m miles behind everyone on this thread and fully expecting the long long wait. I was just panicking as had no idea whether they’d even received the form.
rang bang on 9am and it took me 50 minutes to get through. I thought oh no is this what I have to look forward too. Sent my forms 3rd February and everyone I know that has claimed had received a text or letter pretty quickly. But I hadn’t so was worried: the lady was nice on the phone but said we don’t normally let you know we have your forms. Then said we sent you a letter on the 19th February, so I thought well do you or don’t you let people know you’ve received the form 🤣 so I said well I’ve not had any letter but just glad to know it’s been received. Then she said it’s currently at 17-20 week wait, my friend rang Friday and was told it’s 15 weeks. Wish they’d all say the same thing, that would help everyone massively. So
im going to try and forget about it now.

Gracie1909 · 26/02/2024 13:30

Hiya I have just received a letter on my UC, stating they are agreeing to back date, however no amount or date. Can someone advise how long after this it takes for that to come through? Thanks

MadHouse24 · 26/02/2024 13:31

@MrsRawl It’s so hard isn’t it, I completely sympathise! It also breaks my heart to know that they spend all day everyday fighting it at school which causes them to explode as soon as they get home (if we make it that far!) It makes you feel so alone with it all. My eldest even masks in front of family etc, it is only the past year that my mum and dad see the real her but she would never allow my Husbands side to see it.

Mothertothreeboys · 26/02/2024 13:31

I think the one thing I've learned is there is no order, pot luck 😂 and when you ring up they tell you something completely different to the last person!

Yes we’re very similar, it’s only the last 6 months or so that my mum has now commented on my sons behaviour, she’s never seen it before and even now she says she can notice the difference in him which is really upsetting. My son also masks in front of everyone else. He has selective mutism and is awaiting senco to do asd assessment but school see no problem at all, even with my video evidence of him.
im having to even fight for help for him with his SM, so upsetting how much we have to push and fight for them. Hope we all get what we deserve at the end of this

Fudgie9922 · 26/02/2024 13:47

Same mine was 20/11

xxAmy · 26/02/2024 13:47

ThemysteriousH · 26/02/2024 13:49

Oh gosh I’m only 17 mins waiting so far 🤣

Im confused, so I’m beginning of Nov but have claims later on been awarded? Sorry I’m not sure how this works.

Mammymummymam · 26/02/2024 13:51

Hi i was wondering of anyone could give me some information/ advice my dd has just turned 4 and her nursery said she is showing signs of autism and are doing a referral for her for an assessment. I was just looking for some advice from anyone who has went through it, for example what the process is and how long it will take for her to be assessed and what it entails

Me too, I think it just depends which pile you end up in and the dn/cm your pile is assigned to, because it make absolutely no sense!
